Part 30

After three hours, Jai was called by the doctor again. Aditya insisted to accompany, but Jai stopped him.

"Yes, doctor." Jai said as he took a sear opposite her.

Dr. Mathur put the papers she was reading down and looked at Jai. "So, Mr. Walia. Kaise hai?" she asked with a smile.

Jai was amused, but gave a sad smile.

Dr. Mathur spoke, "Reports aa gaye hai."

Jai went anxious.

"Yeh toh nahin kahoongi ki normal hai. Lekin, I can say she is not in danger anymore." Dr. Mathur put in her words carefully. "But, we are keeping her under observation."

Jai sighed in relief.

The doctor continued, "It was a condition of threatened abortion. Hum bleeding rokhne ki koshish kar rahe hai. Her scan report shows normal condition. Now, her speed of recovery will depend upon her diet, stress level and bed rest. I hope you understand."

"Yes, Doctor." Jai said.

"Ab blood transfusion ho rahe hai. We will shift her to ward after that." Dr. Mathur said.

Jai nodded. "Thank you, doctor." He said.

"You are welcome." She said. Jai got up to leave. She said, "Waise, congratulations." Jai frowned. She smiled and said, "It's a twin."

Jai was bewildered for a second, then the realization struck him. He smiled and asked, "Wh..What? Really?"

"Yes…" The doctor said.

Jai nodded in satisfaction and left the room.

Aditya was wagerly waiting near the door. When he saw the door opening, he went to the door to see Jai coming out. "Kya kaha doctor ne?" he asked immediately.

Jai smiled. "Woh teek hai." He said.

Aditya silently thanked God. He looked at Jai and found him smiling. "Kya baat hai Jai?" he asked.

Jai smiled. "Judwa hai Aditya." He said.

Aditya frowned in confusion. Next second, it cleared and he smiled. "Kya?"

Jai nodded. "Abhi abhi doctor ne kaha…" he said. "I can't believe it Aditya. Judwa…" Jai closed his eyes to savor the happiness.

"Woh kehte hai na, denewala jab bhi deta hai, chappar faadke deta hai…" Aditya chuckled.

Jai laughed.

"Main ghar ko phone karta hoon. Tum yahin raho…" Aditya said.

Jai nodded and sat in the chair nearby. He was too happy to react. Twins… His and Bani's…

Aditya came after sometime. "So Jai…" he started.

"Bani teek hai…" Jai sighed with a smile.

"Haan." Aditya said. "Doctor ne aur kya bataya?" he asked.

"Observation mein rakh rahe hai." Jai said.

"Teek hi hai." Aditya said. "Lekin Jai, achanak kya hua?" he asked.

Jai looked at Aditya, his smile slowly disappearing. He had not thought about it. Jai said while remembering the scene, "Pata nahin. Main study mein gaya, tab Bani ro rahi thi, jawaab nahin de rahi thi…" As if remembering something more, he said, "Masi ne kaha ki subah se study mein hi thi…" He frowned as he thought.

"Study mein? Lekin, Study mein kya kar rahi thi?" Aditya asked.

"Woh sketch kar rahi thi. Maine hi use… study mein… kaam karne ko kaha…" Jai replied as he pondered over the reason what it might be.

"To kya hua?" Aditya asked.

Jai did not reply.

"Dekho Jai. Aisa pehle bhi ek baar hua… yaad hai. Humne socha ki woh teek hai, lekin usi din shaam ko kuch aisa hi hua…" Aditya pointed out. "Kuch toh hua hai… jo humein pata nahin…" he said. "Mujhe nahin lagta ki humein is baat ko nazar-andaaz karna chahiye…"

"Tum teek keh rahe ho… lekin, pata kaise karein?" Jai said.

Aditya started thinking for a way.

Jai looked at his watch. It was already 11. "Gyarah baj gaye?" he wondered aloud. "Aditya, tumne khaana nahin khaaya…" he said.

"Tumne bhi toh nahin khaaya…" Aditya said.

"Haan… main zara doctor se milke aata hoon." Jai said. Aditya nodded.

Jai walked towards the doctor's cabin.

The doctor was surprised. "Yes" She said.

"Bani ko hosh kab aayegi?" Jai asked.

"She is under sedation. Toh… I hope subah tak aa jaayegi." The doctor said.

"Okay. Sorry, actually soch raha tha ki ek baar ghar jaake aaoon. Wahaan sab pareshaan ho rahe honge…" Jai said.

"Yes, sure. Main duty nurse se inform kar deti hoon. Is that enough?" she said.

"Yaah. Thank you." Jai said.

The doctor smiled in reply.

Jai came to Aditya and said, "Chalo Aditya, ghar chalte hai."

"Ghar?" Aditya was surprised. "Jai, yahaan hospital mein kisi ka hona zaroori hai." He said.

"Haan, lekin Bani ko subah tak hosh nahin aayegi. Hum ghar jaake, subah uske liye kuch le aa sakte hai…" Jai said.

"Main rukh jaata hoon." Aditya said. "Tum subah aa jaana."

"Lekin, Aditya, tumhara dinner?" Jai said. "Teek hai, hum donon kha lete hai, uske baad main ghar chala jaata hoon."

Aditya thought for a second. "Teek hai." He said and walked with Jai.

Jai wanted to go to house so badly, he wanted to know what Bani was doing in the study.

On the way to a nearby hotel, Aditya called home and updated with the latest.

Jai reached home a little after midnight. But still Masi was waiting for him. Jigyasa was giving her company.

"Masi, aap so jaayiye… Hum hain na?" Jai said.

"Bas, fikar ho rahi thi uski…" Masi said.

"Samaj sakta hoon…" Jai said.

"Ghar jaldi aa jaayegi na?" Masi asked.

"Haan, Masi…" Jai said, "Ab aap jaake so jaayiye…" He insisted Masi to go to bed. He turned to Jigyasa and said, "Jigyasa, Aditya subah aayega." Jigyasa nodded. He further said, "Aur haan, subah main jab nikloonga, please chai aur nashte ka intezaam kar dena…"

"Ji, bhaiya…" Jigyasa said and took Masi to her room.

Jai immediately climbed the stairs to enter the study. He looked around the room. Bani's things were still lying on the table and couch. He collected the papers and stacked it properly and kept a weight over it. He put all the other things into the box and cleaned the place. His eyes fell on the mobile lying on the couch. He eyed it for a second and then picked up. He browsed through the recent call history. She had spoken to Pushkar, Pia and a displayed number. Well, she had spoken to Pia in the morning, may be she had got some call from bank regarding credit card. He shook his head and placed the mobile along with other things. He got up to go, but stopped. On second thoughts, he took the mobile again. He looked at the time of call. She had spoken to Pushkar in the afternoon, then Pia in the evening, then she had dialed that displayed number. He frowned and looked at the number.

He after sometime, opened the file and looked at the sketches she made. They were just normal. He did not see anything more. He put her mobile in his pocket and left the room, switching off the lights and closing the door behind him.

He sat on the bed deeply in thoughts. He took the mobile again and looked at the number once again. Then, as if remembering something, he got up and went to the study. He opened his drawer and searched for something. After few minutes, he found out what he was searching for. He took the paper and looked at the number written over there. He compared it with the dialed number. His frown cleared and his spirits lowered. He sighed and sat back on the chair. He did not know how to react. He fell asleep unknowingly.

He woke up as if his brain triggered to do something. He wiped his face and looked at the time. It was going to be five. He silently exited the room and went to his room to get ready. He was downstairs ready within half an hour. Jigyasa and Masi were awake. Tony was preparing food and tea.

"Good morning, Masi." Jai said as he entered the dining hall. "Aapko itni subah utne ki kya zaroorat hai? Thodi der baad ut-thi." He said.

"Koi baat nahin. Waise bhi, main ise waqt mein ut-thi hoon." Masi said.

Jai sat on the chair and dialed Aditya's number. "Aditya. Main bas nikhal hi raha hoon." He spoke. "Ut gayi kya?" "Teek hai, main pahunchtha hoon." He ended the call.

"Kya hua?" Masi asked.

"Abhi tak uti nahin." Jai said.

Jigyasa came with his cup of tea. "Ye lijiye, bhaiya…"

"Thank you. Maine Aditya se keh diya. Mere wahaan pahunchte hi woh nikhal jaayega. Thodi der use sone ko kaho. Main office mein baat kar loonga. Woh der se chala jaaye, koi baat nahin. Main use bata doonga. Tum bhi ek baar use batana. Teek hai?" Jai told Jigyasa.

"Ji, bhaiya." Jigyasa said.

"Beta, hum kab hospital aa sakte hai. Ek aurat ko toh wahaan pe hona hai na…" Masi said.

Jai sipped his tea. "Use hosh aate hi main phone karta hoon. Aap decide kar lijiye…" He said.

"Teek hai." Masi said. "Bas, woh hoke ghar aa jaaye…"

Jai finished his tea and looked at Jigyasa. "Jigyasa mujhe nikhalna hai." He said.

"Bas, do minute bhaiya…" Jigyasa said and went to the kitchen. After a minute or so, she came out with the bag of food packed well and a flask of tea and another flask of hot water and some spoons, glass and plate.

"Masi, aur kuch le jaana hai kya?" Jai asked.

"Towel le liya?" Masi said.

Jai gave a look and looked at Jigyasa. Jigyasa went to her room to pack two towels.

"Aur kuch chahiye toh phone karna, hum le aate hai." Masi said.

Jai nodded.

Masi and Jai got up and walked out of the room carrying the things. Jigyasa came with a bag containing towels and toiletries. Jai smiled at Jigyasa thankfully and said, "Main nikhalta hoon."

He walked to the door and turned as if remembering something. "Main batana bhool gaya…" He said. The two ladies looked at him questioningly. Jai smiled, "Doctor ne kaha ki judwa hai."

It took few seconds for the information to bring out the required reaction in the ladies. Before they could congratulate, he had left. They looked at each other and beamed in happiness congratulating each other.

As soon as he reached the hospital, he asked Aditya to have a cup of tea and made him leave the hospital. Before he left, he asked for the updates.

Jai waited patiently for Bani to gain her consciousness.

Around seven, Jai pulled out his mobile and dialed a number from Bani's mobile. He waited for the call to be attended.

It was answered after a few rings. "Hello…"

"Pushkar, Jai Walia here." Jai said.

"Sir. Aap? Good morning. Kaise hai aap?" Pushkar was surprised.

"Main teek hoon. Tum kaise ho?" Jai said.

"Main teek hoon. Kya baat hai? Anything important? Bani teek hai na?" Pushkar said.

"Pushkar, Bani hospital mein hai." Before Pushkar could ask anything, he added, "Ab woh teek hai. Bas, hosh aane ki intezaar kar raha hoon."

"Kya hua?" Pushkar asked.

"Yehi pata karne ki koshish kar raha hoon." Jai said.

Pushkar was confused. "Matlab?"

"Dekho Pushkar. Main kal jab office gaya tha, tab woh bilkul teek thi. In fact, usne teek tarah se lunch bhi kiya, aur chai bhi pi… uske baad… pata nahin kya hua? Main jab study mein aaya, toh woh ro rahi thi, kcuh respond nahin kar rahi thi… isliye seedhe hospital ke aaya…" Jai explained briefly.

"Main… ismein main kya kar sakta hoon?" Pushkar asked.

Jai took a deep breath. "Pushkar, Bani ka Pia se baat huyi hai shaam ko, to be precise, chai ke baad… uske baad… uske baad, usne apne ghar call ki hai…" Jai trailed.

"Ghar?" Pushkar was confused. "Woh ghar kyun phone karegi?" Pushkar asked.

"Yehi toh… usne ghar phone kyun kiya. Infact, subah hi maine kaha ki woh baat nahin kare. Lekin… shaam ko phone ki hai toh… kuch toh hua hai…" Jai let Pushkar know his views.

Pushkar thought for a second and said, "Main Pia se baat karta hoon."

"Please don't mistake me, Pushkar… It's just that…" Jai said.

"It's okay, Sir. Main samaj sakta hoon. Main aapko isi number pe call karta hoon." Pushkar said.

"Yes." Jai said and ended the call.

Pushkar ended the call just in time when Pia entered the room with Veer.

"Pushkar, zara Veer ko dekh lo. Main nahake aati hoon." Pia said.

Pushkar looked at Pia. "Ek minute rukho, Pia." He said and took Veer. He left Veer with his parents and came back.

Pia was surprised. She waited for Pushkar to come back.

Pushkar looked at Pia for a second. Then he asked, "Tumhari Bani se kal baat huyi?"

Pia was surprised, "Haan, baat huyi. Lekin, tum aise kyun pooch rahe ho?"

Pushkar ignored her question and asked, "Kya baat huyi?"

"Bas… aise hi baat kar rahe the… kyun?" Pia said.

"Bas aise hi kya baat kar rahe the ki usne tumse baat karne ke baad tumhare ghar phone ki hai?" Pushkar said.

"Usne ghar phone ki hai? Lekin, usne toh kaha ki jiju ne mana kiya hai…" Pia said.

Pushkar frowned, "Tumne use baat karne ko toh nahin kaha?"

"Kaha toh tha. Lekin---" Pia said but did not complete as Pushkar interfered.

"Kyun kaha tha? Kya zaroorat pad gayi?" Pushkar was astounded.

Pia was puzzled. "Kya hua, Pushkar? Maine toh use sirf pregnancy ki khabar dene ko kaha tha. Tum aise hi kyun pooch rahe ho?"

Pushkar shook his head and took his mobile. He dialed Jai's number.

"Sir, Pushkar bol raha hoon." Pushkar said as soon as Jai attended the call.

"Bolo, Pushkar." Jai said.

"Tarassal Bani ne pregnancy ki baat kehne ke liye phone kiya hai." Pushkar said hesitantly.

Jai sighed in reply.

"Sorry, Sir." Pushkar said.

"Kahin Pia ne toh nahin kaha?" Jai asked doubtfully.

Pushkar hesitated. "Haan, lekin Bani ne Pia se bhi kaha ki aapne mana kiya hai."

Jai took a deep breath. He wondered what conversation happened between Bani and her parents. "Thank you, Pushkar." Jai said.

"It's my pleasure. Uska khayal rakhiye. Main baad mein phone karta hoon." Pushkar said.

Jai sighed. Then he remembered, "Pushkar batana bhool gaya… Doctor ne bataya ki judwa hai…"

Pushkar was confused for a second, then said, "Kya?"

"Haan." Jai said.

"Nice…" Pushkar said. "Main baad mein phone karta hoon. Bani se bhi baat ho jayegi." He said.

"You are right. I will let you know." Jai said and ended the call.

Pia was watching Pushkar curiously. "Baat kya hai, Pushkar?" Pia asked.

Pushkar gave a look at her and said, "Bani hospital mein hai."

Pia was shocked. "Kya? Kyun?" she asked.

"Mujhe nahin pata…" Pushkar said curtly.

"Nahin pata… abhi abhi toh tumne jiju se baat ki… poocha hoga…" Pia said.

Pushkar looked at her for a second, then said, "Pia, I am not that insensitive. Bani hospital mein hai, yeh news mere liye kaafi hai situation ko samajne ke liye…"

Pia was taken aback. "Pushkar, aise kyun baat kar rahe ho?" she asked.

"Pia, please…" Pushkar said. "Main iske baare mein aur baat nahin karna chahta…"

"Kya ho gaya, tumhein?" Pia asked.

"Mujhe kya hua?" Pushkar sounded serious. "Yeh sawaal mujhse kar rahi ho? I don't believe this. Ek baat batao Pia, tumhein Bani aur tumhari maa ke beech aane ki kya zaroorat thi?"

"Matlab?" Pia asked. "Kehna kya chahte ho? Kya main apni behen aur maa ko mila nahin sakti?"

"Mila sakti ho… Of course. Lekin, tab jab donon is baat ke liye tayyar hai…" Pushkar said.

"Lekin, Pushkar, ek ko toh pehla kadam lena hi padega na…" Pia said.

"Haan. Lekin yeh baat tumne apni maa se kyun nahin kahi?" Pushkar asked.

"Kyun? Bani kyun nahin kar sakti?" Pia asked back.

"Bani ne ki, isliye toh woh hospital mein hai…" Pushkar answered curtly.

Pia did not say anything.

Pushkar said, "Dekho Pia. Tumhari maa ne jo kiya, woh unke liye teek laga. Aur Bani ne woh kiya jo use teek laga. Aisi mein donon ko apni indifferences bhulakar haat aage karni chahiye… na ki sirf ek ko…" Pushkar turned to leave. "Aur ek baat… aayinda tum un donon ke beech nahin aaogi…" He said firmly and left the place with his mobile leaving Pia dumbfounded.

Jai's doubts were confirmed. Now what was he going to do, he wondered. How was he going to deal with Bani? He was in deep thoughts, when a nurse called him to meet the doctor.

Jai followed the nurse to doctor's cabin. Jai looked at the doctor.

The doctor spoke, "Hello Mr. Walia. Tarassal main duty doctor hoon. Dr. Mathur aate hi honge. Maine yeh kehne ke liye bullaya ki aapke biwi ko hosh aa gaya. Stable ho rahi hai. Lekin Dr. Mathur bataye honge ki aapke wife ko do-teen din observation mein rakenge. Nurse bas, use clean kar rahi hai. Uske baad aap mil sakte hai."

"Yes, doctor. Thank you." Jai said.

"Agar aapko kuch bhi poochna hai toh aap yahaan ke duty doctor se pooch sakte hai." The doctor further said.

"Thank you." Jai said and got up.

Jai walked towards the room allotted for Bani. He opened the door and peeped inside. The nurse was helping Bani. He closed the door and decided to wait for sometime outside. After few minutes, when the nurse came out, he smiled at the nurse in acknowledgement and entered inside with the bag packed by Jigyasa.
