Well are you still following this ff, then I said to Bhavna that I will turn it into a right old khichdi and she said to turn it into a falooda. So maybe a mixture of both. Keep those comments coming. Now who is ready to dine with Mr and Mrs Walia...everyone's welcome.
Part E - Look who is come to dinner
"Honey I am home…" Jai shouted as he dropped his laptop case in Tony's hand and started loosening his tie.
A blushing Tony said quietly, "Madam is in the kitchen sir." Before walking off to put Jai's stuff in the study. Ganga came hurtling down the stairs and leaped at Jai, "Hi papa…ooh papa guess what mamma is making?"
Jai kissing her cheeks and trying to get down, "Kya?"
Ganga slid down and her sparkled as she hopped with excitement, "Guess papa. Come on its so easy."
Jai sniffed the air, he could smell a faint sweet familiar smell, "Ladoo…" he said.
Ganga grabbed his hands and pulled, shouting, "Yes…come on papa I want to taste one…and you know what mamma is like."
Jai smiled indulgently at his daughter, she was just like him…loved sweets just like him. He and Ganga would have competition to see how many bowls of kheer they could eat. And ladoos…well less said about them the better…Bani kept a tight grip on that tin of ladoos…she rationed those out to him, never failing to point out to his cholesterol and sugar levels.
Jai pulled of his tie and threw it on the sofa and followed Ganga into the kitchen. Bani was stood with her back to the doorway, busy pressing the round ladoos. The sweet smell filled the kitchen and the tray full of ladoos made Jai's mouth salivate. He walked up to Bani and reached out to take a ladoo, only to find her hand swiping his, "Don't you dare touch them Mr Walia. You can have one at dinner time with the rest of the family."
Jai wrapped his arms around her and kissed her, "Please Mrs Walia…don't torture me so much, one won't kill me. Why do you make them if we can't eat them?"
Bani turned and kissed him back and said sweetly, "Well Mr Walia, I didn't invite people for dinner. You did and since I have to feed the guests, I am allowed to make them." And then grinned at him, "You know how much AD likes ladoos."
Jai glared at her, "So you would rather feed AD than me. Come on Ganga, we know who mamma loves."
Ganga who had been listening to her parents, stood between the two and winked at Jai, "First papa say tell mamma how much you love her and..." then pouting at Bani, "mamma can I at least taste one. I don't have whatever papa has. They smell so good, I can smell them upstairs."
Bani picked up a ladoo and put one in Ganga's hand, "Ok, only one. We have to leave some for dinner time. Now go." She looked at Jai and waited for him to say something. Ganga nudged Jai, "Come on say it papa. Then lets go..." She left the sentence unfinished, looking down at the ladoo in her hand. Jai smiled at Bani and said softly, "Mrs Walia, I love you very much. And thank you for making ladoos for our guests." He blew her a kiss and then taking Ganga's hand walked out of the kitchen. Bani smiled at them, she knew Ganga wouldn't eat the ladoo by herself. If she sneaked out, she would find Ganga sharing the ladoo with her father.
Jai and the rest of the family were sitting around in the lounge awaiting AD and Meera. Just after seven AD arrived, looking dapper in black jeans and black t-shirt. He had a gold coloured box in his hand. AD greeted everyone warmly and handing the box to Bani, "For you bhabhiji!"
"Thanks dewarji." Bani said as she unwrapped the box. She ripped the paper and looked at the elegant gold box…"Wow truffles and that too from the famous Sheena's chocolatier." Bani opened the box and looked at the delicate, rich and chocolate sitting in gold foil tray. She picked up the little card with names and started to laugh. "Wow I love the names for the chocolate…tropical tiramisu trauma, strawberry sanguine slithers, mochatail maraschino madness, praline power pulveriser, pineapple preppy pommel, decadent dreamy deliquesce."
Bani passed the box to Adi who helped himself to couple before passing the box on. By the time Bani got the box back, more than half the truffles were gone. Everyone was eyeing the box, looking hopefully for second helping. Contemplating whether to let them have some more, the sound of heels clicking on the marble floor distracted her. She heard AD's loud voice, "Oh no…yeh adbhootni here too. I am leaving." AD stood up, only to to be pulled down by Bani. She glared at him, "Behave yourself AD. And no name calling understood. Meera is also Mr Wlaia's guest."
AD glared at Jai and hissed, "You invited her, knowing full well how I feel about her. And now bhabhi will be on my case forcing me to be nice to her…maa kaali." Jai couldn't help but chuckle, "Maa Kaali…I think you need glasses AD. Meera is so fair. Her skin is so light and she is gorgeous…what's the matter with you, suffering from male menopause…in need of hormone replacement theraphy."
The remark earned Jai a hard slap on the back and a black look, "I will get you for that Jai Walia." Bani who had seen AD slap Jai, admonished him, "AD, don't be a like small baccha, otherwise no ladoos for you. I made ladoos especially for you." Then looking form AD to Jai, "Both of you be on your best behaviour. You should be ashamed, behaving like little brats in front of Ganga. What kind of role models are you going to be for my daughter?"
At the mention of ladoos, AD could almost relish the taste…well if he had to be on his best behaviour to eat those ladoos, than that's what he will force himself to do…even if it means being civil to Meera.
Meera gave AD a dazzling look, her lips curved into a smile and her eyes sparkled with glee…look who got into trouble. AD in turn plastered a big grin on his face, stood up and bowed pointing to his spot, "Meera welcome. Please do make yourself comfortable."
Meera not moving an inch, gave a saccharin smile, "Nahi Mr Bhooth, I can't take your seat. You need it more than me."
Ganga squealed with laughter, "AD uncle she called you Mr Bhooth. Meera aunty, bhooth nahi uncle's name is Aparajt Deb hai, or short mei AD." Meera picked up Ganga and sat down with her on her lap. "Oh Ganga, I must have heard wrong. I am sure your papa said he was called adbhooth."
Meera peered at Jai over top of Ganga's head, saw a slight tinge of red on his cheek and AD giving Jai another cold look. Bani had to clutch her stomach not to laugh out loud, she wondered how she would get through the dinner with the three of them…AD and Meera dying to strangel each other and her poor husband getting into fix with both AD and Meera.
Before any one could say anything else, Bani announced they should move to the dining room before dinner went cold.
AD stood up and offered his arm to Meera, "This way milady, let me escort you, O'fair one to the great feast which awaits us." Meera swept his arms down and smirked at him, "O lord of the dark, this fair maiden can wend her own way to the great feast," and then casting him a playful look, "But if the dark lord needs a hand to lean on then I will gladly offer you mine."
AD stood up and strode up to her and brought his face quiet close to hers, "Just remember the night is still young O'fair one." And then grabbing her hand he pulled her with him towards the dining table. Jai gave Bani a doleful look, Bani her eyes filled with amusement and said softly, "You invited them, not me."
