CHAPTER 9 (A)
KABHI KABHI...
I left Nandini's house with Cabir and Dhruv for my home and then Natasha called up me to inform that my parents had arrived. I took a reverse and started driving towards my parent's place. Cabir spoke.
Cabir- Uncle and aunty have come? You idiot you are telling us now... Bro, too much...
(Dhruv and Cabir looked at me a bit angrily..)
I was so happy to see them after such a long time and entered the house shouting at the top of my voice with excitement... "Dad, Mom..." Mom and Dad were there in their bedroom.
"Dad... Mom...missed you so much..." I was so excited to see them, that I went and hugged them tightly...
Dad and Mom- Manik, we missed you too son...😊
Cabir and Dhruv too hugged them... We all sat on the couch in their room... Mom again got busy in dressing up; she started wearing her jewelry...
"Mom aap log ready hoke kaha ja rahe ho???"
Mom- How can you forget Manik, we pre-ponded our tickets because of Mr.Dalmiya's son's wedding... Akshay, your friend...Jiski Haldi ceremony aap attend karne gaye thy (she teased me and everyone started to laugh on me)...
I looked at my dad with a grumpy face. "Dad, seriously... too much...you told Mom also..."
Mom- Your Dad doesn't hide anything from me...And, yes you are coming too with us... There is a small get together; Reena has invited only close friends with their families. It's a small family sangeet for relatives and friends... So, you are coming with us too...And FAB 5 too... Go get ready guys and be there by 1:30 p.m... And, I won't hear excuses...
My mom informed that families of FAB 5 were coming too except Aliya's Dad as he was in USA..." Mom no ways...vaise bhi Aliya and Mukti are going for some shopping..." I was least interested in it...Dhruv got a message and he called Aliya...
Dhruv- Hey Aliya, where are you guys shopping??
Aliya- What shopping Dhruv, we can't go; we are still at Nandini's place.
Dhruv- What Nandini's place, is she fine???
Aliya- She's fine...voh Akshay called up and bahut sunaya usne hum sabko, that we aren't getting involved in his wedding at all... So, we all decided ki isse pehle he gets more upset with us, we are going for the ceremony at his place...we are almost ready and would leave for Akshay's place in 20 minutes. You guys reach directly there...
Dhruv- Ok... Cool then we'll see you there...
I was worried coz girls were planning shopping and they were still at Nandini's place...Hope she was fine..."What happened?? Is Nandini fine???"
Dhruv- Ha Manik...Aunty even we'll get ready... they would reach Akshay's place directly...
"Ok...(I felt relaxed...) Mom informed Dhruv and Cabir that their outfilts are in my room, she had asked Ramesh to get them.
"Ok so what are we waiting for??? Mom we'll get ready in my room..."
Mom- Manik why are you getting ready ?? 2 minutes back you said you aren't coming with us???
I was looking here and there..."Mom you only said I have too and I can't give excuses..."
Mom- really? (She had a question mark and a teasing tone)
I was trying to hide my blush and my mom then said, "Boys, go get ready..." I chose a white Chinese collar shirt, black blazer and blue denims. I gelled my hair and came down and was all set to leave...I smiled when my mom came from behind and spoke.
Mom- Not bad, you all look really handsome... (Dad too joined)
Cabir- Aunty, thanks...but kisi ko sirf Manik bahut handsome lagta hai (he winked at me😉)...(And I was blushing...☺️) Aunty aur yeh baat realise karne mein she took soo many years...(My parents looked confused ❓ and I was trying to stop Cabir...)
(Cabir then narrated my morning 'door' conversation with Nandini to my parents...My parents were having a superb time laughing on me...)
Cabir and Dhruv- Voh gana hai na Aunty (and they sang)...

After they were satisfied with the musical teasing session, we left for Akshay's place...My thoughts were just engulfed in Nandini's innocent eyes and her words were echoing in my ears..."I trust you...I trust you Manik..."
We reached Akshay's place... My parents were eager to meet Nandini, but they said that none of them would introduce her to us and would only tell her they too have come. They wanted to find her on their own... I got worried... I thought they were going to do a litmus test with her...
Dad- Manik, relax we know she is the right girl for you...just that I don't want her to be uncomfortable...Trust us...We won't let her know anything about how you feel for her... we know you need time and so does she...
I smiled and hugged my parents...
AKSHAY'S LIVING AREA
It was a huge place with only close family and friends...So, there was a set-up where all were seated in groups and a CHIT game was going on... People would pick up a chit and it would have another guest's name and a situation...
We all got seated and then I saw Nandini with her friends, I called up Devika and asked all of them to join us... Now, Akshay's all friends made one group (FAB 5 and Nandini's friends...,, Turn by turn people were getting situations... It was then Aryan's turn from our group... He picked up a chit.
Akshay's cousin brother (anchor)- Ok...So Aryan you have a chit saying pick the situation chit first.
He picked a chit from other bowl..
Anchor- HHmmm situation kya hai let's see...(The anchor opened the chit and read)...Well it is a simple dare where you need to propose a girl in this gathering, you think is and find beautiful...Simple sa dare hai...
Everyone was shouting Aryan, Aryan...Aryan immediately came and held Nandini's hand... I looked at Nandini and I was stunned she was smiling...I was soo pissed off...Cabir tried to calm me down as I was about to get up from my seat...
Cabir- Manik, it's just a game... Relax...
"Cabir, this jerk, he is going to propose Nandini, can't you see..." I was angry on Cabir... He held my hand tightly... Dad too saw my irritation and figured out that I was disturbed...He looked at the girl whose hand Aryan was holding and understood it was Nandini. His eyes told me to be quiet...
Aryan- Nandini here I go, a few lines said by Mr. Bachhan (He held his hands in his)-

I was losing it... Even if it's a game how dare he propose her.
Nandini- (She smiled and politely said)... Aryan if it had been someone else, toh mein jawab tak nahi deti and you know it...But since it's you so...
(Entire halll was waiting for her reply, and my nerves were dammm restless...I wanted to end this nonsense)...
Nandini- Aryan,

With her lines every single person clapped as loud as possible in the Hall on her reply. How gracefully she had denied it and yet didn't make the other person feel hurt. Aryan too smiled and they sat.
FAB 5 and My Parents looked at me with eyebrows up... I placed my hand on face and looked down to avoid them.
The anchor then called many people from different groups and from our group Dhruv was called and was asked to sing for Devika and he sang the song "DRAMA QUEEN"...
Amongst all friends, Nandini was most admired by everyone in the elderly section' of guests... Some were talking of getting their son's married to her and were asking for her details from Akshay's mom...One of the aunty's even went to the anchor to call Nandini and her son Rohit to dance together... But, Thanks to Reena Aunty she handled the situation...
Then after a couple of rounds the anchor came back to our group and he called Nandini...FAB 5 looked at me, I had finally removed my hand from my face and was blushing like a tomato...☺️
Anchor- Nandini, I must say you are a very graceful speaker...Ok, pick up the chit from the bowl.
She picked it up and on reading it the anchor smirked, I was just praying uss Aryan ka naam na ho bas.
Anchor- Nandini, ek kaam karo pick the chit from the situation bowl too... Then, I'll tell you whose name it is...
She picked up the chit and gave it to him. The anchor opened the other chit and began to laugh...Nandini gave him a confused look.
Anchor- Ok, Ok I am sorry...but, the thing is I am amazed how creative the wedding planners have been in giving situations... (Everyone was damm curious)...Ok, so, here you go ...
Nandini the SITUATION is aapko -
"THE, THE MANIK MALHOTRA" KI WIFE KI TARAH USKE PARENTS KI COMPLAIN MANIK SE KARNI HOGI ...
Nandini, me, my parents and in fact every single person was shocked on this creatively twisted dare...' Nandini was just looking here and there...And I wanted to dig a grave and get into it... The only people who were enjoying were my parents and FAB 5...
I think more than Nandini I was dammm nervous...I was saying to myself "Damm what the hell, what if she denies to do it...no ways, my parents are here...I want her impression to be perfect... God, why...why...And Nandini... what if she gets angry and leaves..." Now, with the thought that Nandini would leave was making me freak out. And yes I was right; she left the floor and went...
Everyone was stunned when she left and I figured out she wasn't comfortable...I went towards my parents and sat there.
Mom- Manik, don't be upset... We know you are worried for her, so are we...
"Mom but aap logon ka naam bhi tha dare mein, everyone is looking at us...I am sorry..."
Dad- Son, chill...it's ok...
We all sat quietly and then I was walking back towards my group, I wanted to say sorry to her too for the situation...Then, to break the silence in the room the anchor was about to say something, but stopped...
To everyone's surprise we heard someone's payal, which was played in a rhythmic way and everyone looked towards at the door behind, but no one was there... And then we saw a reddish-orange duppata (it was the same color Nandini was wearing)...
To everyone's shock Nandini came forward looking down but had a slight smile...
(THE DJ STOPPED PLAYING THE PAYAL TRACK...)
My eyes popped out and my jaw dropped and touched the floor... I was at a distance from her and then she looked at me... I rubbed my eyes badly as I thought I was imagining her...FAB 5 and her friends came near me with the same stunned look as mine...
"Mukti pinch me... It can't be real"...Mukti too was surprised and she pinched my arm very badly...I winced in pain and gave an angry look at her...
Mukti- What?? You asked for it...(confused).
Cabir- Bro, be ready... She is gonna kill you for this...
FAB 5 and her friends - "Go Nandini..." (They all said it together with excitement).
"NANDINI... WIFE..." I was in my LA-LA-LA LAND...
I was now having the widest smile on my face, I could manage... My parents and I exchanged glares... Then suddenly Nandini started to walk towards me without a smile and with every step of her my heart started to beat fast ... My smile vanished and eyes widened with nervousness, I kept my one hand on cheeks and was ready for a tight SLAP from her...🤢
She now stood at some distance from me and turned.
The music started... And FAB 5 said loudly "WHAT" (they had guessed the song...)
(She started her performance with her back towards me, she then turned slightly sideways and started her dance with her right hand pointing towards me... I was shocked and stunned with the lyrics...)

(She then went towards Reena Aunty who was sitting next to my mom and I was stunned as she was now complaining to both and looked at me ... She completed her performance going behind her friends and then hid there... Everyone was spell bound with her graceful dance and sound of applauds didn't stop for next 5-7 minutes.
My Dad messaged me "Good choice... she is perfect for our family..." I smiled at it but my face was still down as I was feeling embarrassed😳 and didn't know how to face everyone...I quickly left the room saying I have call. I was standing in the lobby and smiling like a fool remembering her every expression...
Nandini was driving me mad and all I wanted to do is hug her tight and never break that hug, I wanted do kiss her wildly...I said to myself "I will never let her go".
After a few minutes FAB 5 too came out. They all hugged me, but this time they had tears in their eyes and I knew they were happy for me. My parents came out too and hugged me.
Dad- Manik, she is the best thing that has happened to you after music...We liked her a lot after hearing about her...But, after seeing her we love Nandini. We would be thankful to God if she agrees to be a part of our family.
"Dad...what...aisa kuch nai hai..." I was blushing, I was feeling shy☺️ and embarrassed😳 hearing that my parents had approved of her straight for marriage.
Mom- Manik we won't get fooled by your words ok... look at you...your face has turned red...Manik we know you love her...And I know somewhere you know it too...So accept it son...😳
"Mom..." We all were laughing and after a few minutes Nandini stepped out too with Devika and Sara. She freezed and her eyes were wide due to shock seeing me talking to my mom and it then hit her that the lady she was complaining in her performance to was my mom😲.
We all laughed at her expression...Mom asked all of us to be quiet seeing Nandini getting conscious.
Mom- Nandini beta come here...
She hesitantly started walking towards us, while we all were chuckling...She came and firstly touched my parents feet. My parents were highly impressed by her gesture and they blessed her. She was very nervous and scared, tears had welled up in her eyes.
Nandini- I...I am really sorry aunty, mujhe nai pata tha ki aap Manik ki mom hai. He didn't tell me...Please uncle aunty if you have felt bad I sincerely apologise to you.
"I was trying to tell you, but you were too busy in your performance and complaining..." I knew she had tears, but I don't know what made me tease her. Mom asked me to be quiet.
Mom- Nandini why are you being sorry, in fact we loved your performance. We completely enjoying it. Must say you are a very graceful performer.
Nandini- Thanks aunty...Aliya ne bataya tha mujhee ki aap log bhi aaye hai...And voh situation mein it involved you too so I couldn't disrespect you and uncle.
Dad- Nandini, beta it's fine and stop crying. And yes, Thanks to hummien kehna chahiye tumhe for giving our son a new life
Nandini- Uncle please...He is your son, he had to come to you.
Aliya then got a call that they were getting late for their appointment. The girls then bid bye to all. Nandini said she would join them in a minute.
Nandini- Uncle, Aunty it was really nice meeting you...Manik is lucky to have you as parents. I am really sorry. I'll have to take your leave.
Mom - No problem beta go ahead... vaise must say you are very beautiful girl. Say Hello to your family from our side...Manik, you better get her home to meet us...
Nandini smiled and touched their feet once again, she then left to join her girls gang.
Mom and Dad hugged me and we all left for home to get ready for the wedding.
