OK, this Uttarkand issue is really intriguing... Shyamala Aunty, Stuti di, and all just went through the comments... loved reading them!! Aunty will just post this bit and go off ok! 😳

This is my opinion, and conclusion from all that I read here and in Siya ke Ram forums, The Maryada Purushottam, the always-perfect-never-blundering Lord is unrecognisable in this segment. The questions are so right... how can a King, so intelligent and thoughtful, abandon his queen, his better half AND the to-be mother of the heirs, just because a few rumours sprouted up in his kingdom... Why, the subjects hadn't even launched an anti-Sita campaign?! Had they? Even if they did, is he not a capable husband, to stand up and defend his wife?!😕

The Krittivasi Ramayana(the Bengali Ramayana, that is), tells an even more absurd version than depicted in the show, it tells that... one day, Sita's maids had been pestering her to describe how Ravana looked like (he was supposed to have been extremely handsome) , Sita maintained that she had never looked at his face... forget admiring someone like him... but anyways, she agrees to paint a rough portrait of Ravana for their sake!

Exhausted due to her pregnancy, Sita falls asleep on the floor, beside the half done portrait of Ravana, and when Ram enters the room and sees this... he is enraged and instantly orders Lakshman to take her away to the forest, and leave her there. Lakshman gives in sadly, after a literal emotional blackmail session from Ram. One really wonders, how a man like him, who was so logical and ahead of his times, even think of something like this!!!

PS: The story I put up is what I know so any form of amendments will be duely accepted...

But for ram, his praja came first. Their happiness was utmost for him. Not even a single soul was unhappy. Not even a stupid dhobi who doubted his pativrata wife's character. In today's world, it is not possible but in ramrajya everybody was happy. As a husband, yes he was worst. But, as a king , he was is and always will be best. Things were different in ramrajya.
But again, he was bounded by certain rules like yudhishtra to follow his pratidnya. He wasn't perfect. And he wasn't complete god as well. We can't follow ram today. Where as we can always follow krishna even today. Because he was free .dharma could never stop Krishna from doing anything. And that's why despite having 16000 wives, krishna was brahmachari , complete nirmohi as aunty had once said.

Beautiful post , aunty. I am speechless

What extra happiness did Ram offer his prajas by abandoning his wife forever in the forest? Gossipers were there, will be always there... what kind of extra facility did Ram allocated for his subjects by submitting his own principles and values to the worthless distasteful gossips of some uneducated idiots by leaving Sita all alone with a burden of humiliations? Was Ram so insensible that he did not know one cannot make everyone happy at the same time? Was not Sita, her sons and the entire womankind falling under his duty as a king, and their happiness was his responsibility too? I can never believe Ram as God! He comes as a very common man to me, who in spite of his all extra-ordinary qualities could not set any example to the society and acted like a weak and helpless person to the very end just like Yudhistir! When the sense of Dharma becomes stagnant and bounded by only rules and no humanity, the Adharma gets its way to enter... same thing happened with Ram and Yudhistir according to me!

This story is even more horrendous and a terrible example of male-autocracy of middle-age. No wonder that in middle-age the condition of women was even more vulnerable and miserable that of Ramayan's era, and as a picture of the society, Krittivasi Ramayan depicts the condition of middle-age only more than the ancient age!! 😔

Have you read Sitayan, Adwi?

Yes it was horrendous! Imagine, initially the illiterate, subjects were doubtful of Sita's integrity but if the King abandons her... what is it supposed to mean, that her husband, who is a righteous ruler also doubts her, so her once upon a time subjects can surely do the same, who can stop them? They'll have a valid excuse, won't they? Where was Ram's legendary farsighted ideas when he did this?

No, I haven't read Sitayan... tell me more about the book!

Sitayan is mainly a criticism of Ram's character from Sita's point of view which also emphasizes on the Ariyan rules over Anaryas, and Ram's blind belief towards the Bramhins of that time which led him to do a lot of sins under the banner of his ideal Ramrajjya; even there is a line by Sita that some opportunist peoples have made Ram a living God to fulfill their own selfish wishes and Ram is carrying out their wishes without any question in the addiction of that fame of God and of the avatar of Bhisnu like an idiot!
It's wriiten by Mallika Sengupta. Quite a logical approach of Ramayan...

This is preposterous...I am sure they came up with this only to glorify and justify Rama's decision🤢

Good Morning Banjaras and Baisas...
🤗

Some pretty heated mythological discussions, I see, first thing in the morning... 😆🤗

Enjoyed reading all the reviews, everyone's opinions and thoughts .. how well-informed many of you are... so intelligent... and articulate too! 👏

My take - Mythology is an open pot... over the years, people have added to it, taken away from it... and the mixture inside it has changed over time... we never knew WHEN that pot came into existence and WHAT was originally put into it at all!

My stance is generally to take the 'good' lessons/morals from Mythology and leave out the rest as folklore... anyway, this excerpt from Ramayana is not the only tale of our Gods that's inexplicable - at least, not for me! (For example, Lord Shiva and Parvati are considered as universal parents... yet, we could never explain why Lord Shiva had to kill his own son over a fight to enter Parvati's private chambers... I was glad my sons didn't ask me this question during Ganesh Chathurthi festival... lol...)

I remember... when my Grandmother used to tell us these stories... we'd listen.. and any questions we asked would receive a standard answer 'This is how it was... you mustn't ask such questions... they were Gods... and we can't explain why they did what they did...'

If my sons ask me such questions in future, my answer would be 'They're interesting stories... take the 'good' lessons from it... understand the good morals... the rest would have to be left out as folklore... either way, follow the path that least hurts those who love you...'
