Thank you, my dear.

You are dead right on Ruqaiya. Do take a look at my response above to charminggenie as well, there is a good bit there about her that you will like.

I agree with you, my dear, especially about Aishwarya's tehraav, and her lissom grace and unostentatious regality in the film.. I do not think this Jodha is ever going to get there, but yes, she does have lovely eyes, though I am fed up of the coyness, which is by now much too much.

As for Ruqaiya, she is such an unexpected delight, in her frailties and her hidden emotionalism.

well almost everything in this show is filmy and over the top ...be it the jungle meet or the boat ride romance or jodha visit to the prison or the situation of jodha going to stay with her inlaws before marriage !!!!! in the time where rajput women used to stay in purdah our jodha here is a very modern girl in the just a period setting. Actually i also feel that this jodha doesnt potray a royal attitude the way aishwarya projected in the movie ...there was a control , a theharav in the voice n action of aishwarya which immediately used to convey that she is a royal princess. but paridhi has a beautiful innocent face and with time i feel she will improve. Anyways so just as the voice over says this is a fictitious show we have to digest everything with not pinch but heaps of salt.

coming back to yesterdays epi everything in the prison was shown just to build up the future romance n love between jodha akbar. the makers want to convey us that since akbar falls in love with jodha, she is the only woman who will bear him heir!!! come to think of it in that era the basic role of the woman seems to do everything for her husband bear him sons n cheerfully see him adding more n more women to his harem list.

Ruquaiya condition is tragic. Inspite of being the favourite she has to fight for her position , keep hoping she will bear him son so that her position is undefeatable in her husbands life . moreover being in love but unable to convey it for the fear of being scoffed at and at all times to live in terror dat her husband doesnt fall in love with another woman. uff that is scary...

Sangeeta, you wicked girl, if I fall off this chair from laughing and break a bone, which, at my age, will never set, it will be ALL your fault! Oh dear, the para about the Jalal-Jodha encounter is just one long screamm and the Shibi Chakravarti comparison was the limit! PG Wodehouse would have approved!

I will try and locate Raise the Red Lantern, I have read about it, but never got around to watching it. Yes, you are absolutely right about the kind of desperation that can set in under such circumstances.

As for why Jalal did not execute that Bahadur Khan, it was illogical, for he got away scot free after being an accessory in a gunaah-e-azeem, and what sort of example, as you have pointed out, would that set to others? But I think they did not want Jalal to be shown as shedding blood any more, except in battle, of course.

Once again, now that I have cleared the tears from my eyes, thanks for understanding my wacky sense of humour and riding along with it!

PS: Don't expect the defenestration any time soon; we still have at least 479 episodes to go!

Let's face it, the real disappointment of yesterday's episode was that we didn't get to see a defenestration! 😉 Ha ha ha.

Aside from having me in stitches, your post was spot-on on all points!

The MA and BK showdown was interesting. I was surprised though that MA would come clean with her motives to BK like that. She's usually one to hold her cards to her vest so to speak. BK's true enough words about Adham Khan and MA's refusal to accept it were telling and will be her obvious unravelling in the future. I think even Ruq made allusions to it earlier.

Definitely for me the moments with Ruquaiya were the most poignant. And in reply to your prev. reply to me on your July 20 thread, Yes, Ruq. is definitely an isolated character; evoking more sympathy from me and giving her motivations more complexity. (There's an interesting Chinese from a while back--Raise the Red Lantern--which deals with this theme of isolation that the wives of a rich King had to deal with and their competition to provide an heir and how it drives one woman to madness--it's very well done. I wonder if you've seen it? Its worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Anyways, I often think of that when I consider Ruq and the rest of the harem ladies.) In any case, I fervently hope that they keep Ruq a complex character throughout the series and not turn her into a one-dimensional vamp.

I also thought the funny math was just ridiculous and belaboring of mohabbat both by Hamida Begum and then the cuts to Jodha talking about Prem were just too contrived. I think it would've been enough to stop his slaughter of Farida b/c she's pregnant and it would just be too sinful (I can even buy them buying the idea of Jalal's being cursed without heirs for such an act.) But why wouldn't he still kill the husband? I mean he has cut off the feet of a man for stealing shoes!! So he's not going to kill the poacher? Ridiculous. Not that I'm bloodthirsty or anything, but the inconsistency of character is too much. And no way does that mohabbat argument stand to explain why he wouldn't still kill just the poacher. What's to stop others from poaching the harem and then just claiming love?

And finally your options for the Jalal Jodha meeting in the jungle--awesome. I quite like the proposed option one with the tiger. But who knows, just as Jalal is about to kill the tiger, this time Jodha, savior of fallen pigeons, recognize that it is a pregnant tigress! Jalal stops just in the nick of time, before incurring the badua--God forbid, his horses become infertile now! Our dove-healing, selfless Jodha then like King Sibi (or Vessantara, if you prefer) offers up some (extra) pounds of her flesh to feed the starving pregnant tigress, thus becoming more like Kate Moss. She also pulls the thorn out of the paw of the tigress, for good measure. Jalal is impressed and starting to fall in love with Jodha. Jodha is delirious from blood loss, but prays to Kali Mata who coming down in the form of Ekta with the script and a pen, writes a revision that includes a long monologue about faith and love and selflessness and sacrifice, which by uttering tearfully heals Jodha immediately.

Ruquaiya, meanwhile, just rolls her eyes.

Ha ha. Ok, well clearly I should stay away from fanfic. But your post was just too fun!

Thanks for the smiles this morning, Shyamala Aunty!

I agree, Disha, that one cannot have endless excellence, and a bit of slowing down does help at times. U am not complaining, just noting a fact, and besides, I wanted that Newtonian title for my post!

Ruqaiya wrings my heart.

As for a Jalal-Jodha-the tiger encounter, do take a look at Sangeeta's embroidery on this theme! I could not stop laughing!

but too much of anything is not good na 😉 so yeah it was a mediocre episode. But still,i am not complaining 😆

I think what touched me the most today's was ruqaiya's heart-break.She does love him,but she cannot tell him that.He thinks she too doesnt believe in love ; that samjhauta and friendship is enough for making a life together. He is close to her because he feels she understands him.Ofcourse she does, and thats why she isnt telling him this

ah!this is way too much pain 😭

btw, tomorrow's episode : your take on that was pure brilliance 😃 tiger 🤣 i sooo badly want that!

My dear,

As for Ruqaiya's tragic situation, if you are an Agatha Christie aficionada, you might have read a book of hers called Sad Cypress. It shows exactly the same cleft stick in which the heroine is caught. She loves her childhood friend and current fiance with a desperate, all consuming passion, but he is anything but passionate, and repeatedly tells her, exactly like Jalal does to Ruqaiya, how he adores her aloof delicacy and reserve. She knows that if he finds out what she really feels, he will be frightened away, and so she hides it and always pretends to be the woman he thinks she is and whom he admires so much.

Then he meets another girl and falls madly in love with her. The heroine, for one moment, wishes her dead, and so when the girl is actually murdered, she thinks she is morally, if not actually, responsible for her death. Of course Hercule Poirot rescues her by unmasking the real culprit, but it was the character of the heroine that stayed with me for a long time. Do read it even if you are not into murder mysteries.

Let us see how Ruqaiya reacts when she faces the same situation as the heroine in Sad Cypress.

For all of this episodes mediocrity there was a point that you have articulated that struck me: Ruq's inability to tell Jalal of her feelings. I wrote in a previous post of mine that Ruq had vulnerabilities and caring towards Jalal that she might now have been aware of. Today, we realized that this woman is extremely self aware and perceptive. She knows she's in love with Jalal. At the same time, she knows he'll scorn any mention of love in their relationship. So she is content with his brain. Most of the time. But she too is a young woman, and had, I am sure, some hopes and aspirations hidden deep inside. To see him articulate such a brutal position towards love could not have been easy. I wonder how much of herself, Ruq had to suppress to emulate Akbar. Not much, I am sure, but I think enough.
And then the greatest insult of all is coming her way- Jalal falling love, falling madly, deeply in love, changing himself, changing tradition etc, showing that he has a heart- for a stranger who loathes the very ground he walks on.
Poor Ruq. The real queen must have had a good life, but this one is in for a rough ride.

My dear,

Ir is so pleasing to find someone who shares my quirky sense of humour. It is often my fate to have my tongue-firmly-in-cheek bits taken seriously!😉 I was thus delighted when someone enjoyed the Kate Moss bit.

Yes, the prison scene was Ridiculous, upper case deliberate. And I so glad that you are with me on Hamida Banu's babbling about mohabbat. In an imperial family in the 16th century, for God's sake!

As for our common favourite, Ruqaiya, my heart goes out to her. Do look at my responses above to Apolloartemis and to charminggenie, especially the former. You will like them. At lease she has now been officially declared to be the equal of Jalal in birth.

You have a great sense of humour!! 😆 There were some bits in today's episode that I was shocked to see. I mean the Emperor personally killing a concubine and her lover?! Really, doesn't he have anything better to do? And what with all the things about love she dared to say to the Emperor when his wife is with him!! 😕 Ekta really does go overboard with her "filminess". I mean the punishment of killing was of course, as u pointed out, 100% justifiable but it's just sooo historically unbelievable that a woman who belonged to the harem would do this.

And of course my favourite: Jalal and Ruqaiya 😳 I completely agree that what Ruqaiya is going through right now is worse than a nightmare. And what's with all the insensitive people around her? I understand the vamps in the harem but even her own mother-in-law 😕 though of course in reality Hamida's relationship with Ruqaiya was a very good one, she was her best loved daughter-in-law. Didn't get the whole mohabbat thing either 🤣 since the woman who said this (Hamida) didn't have a loving relationship with her own husband, so how did she conceive her son? Hers was of course an arranged marriage as well as if there's any other choice in the 16th century. 😆

At last, I feel very bad for Ruq, way too much pain for me to handle 😭

You have summed up the episode so well including the kate moss remark😆...so true but i am ready to take any nonsense as long as that girl is away from that rajput clan especially suryabhan ...my tolerance level is nil on their sugarcane love sick romance...i was actually jumping with relief when i heard she is finally leaving bhanpur😆...not only the son but the whole family is an overdose of sugary syrup gosshhh

i shall take any scenario about their meet even if it is a hit and miss but still seeing them in one frame is worth it after weeks of everything else

coming to the episode...let me start with BK and MA scene...as you summed it ,all pretenses are out of the window it is now them circling around each other in the open waiting to see who attacks first...sadly for BK he underestimates MA and her power and is overconfident about his own role...by the end of this week or start of next BK will mostly be killed or on his way to Mecca...and MA would just have catalyzed the events which BK had brought upon himself...it was utter foolishness and arrogance that let to his downfall...even without MA it would have happened though ...so by next week (plzzz Ekta) Jalal and salima nikaah happens and then we can actually concentrate on Amer war

now coming to the Jalal,Rq and Farida scene...the joy of father hood on his face was evident and then the rage and fury over the truth exposed by Rq...the scene with farida was scary ...but then what exactly was expected?? even in this age and time betrayal leads to murder ,so imagine betraying an Emperor in the worst possible kind

Frida has to be one courageous lady to defy the Emperor and fall in love with a common man in his army...and she has to be utterly foolish to even think that she can trap the Emperor in her web of lies...it was the latter part that hurt Jalal's ego and pride besides he was still reeling under BK ka disobedience and this incident was added as fuel

not to mention Rq ka egging him to kill them...i honestly had hoped it will be her who would stop him not for their love story but for the unborn child ..given how she yearns to be a mother herself...but sadly she came across a hardhearted Empress than a empathetic woman or mother...it shows that she can go to any extent to appease Jalal...his wish is her gospel..there is no right and wrong for her as long as she stays in his good books...that was the first wife in her role

then came the vulnerable woman who was shocked hearing Hamida banu's words...her sadness was evident and then the bedroom scene further exposed her vulnerability...for all her strong words and stance before the world there exists in her a heart that loves her Shahehshah and yearns for him to love her back ...yet she is scared of losing him if she even gives him a glimpse of her true feelings...that one drop of tear conveyed so many things...and this was the woman my heart went out to...as i said in an earlier post...it will be Rq who will be the first to realize Jalal falling for Jodha even before JA realise it...that would be the time when all her suppressed feelings will come rushing out ,heartbreak, hurt, anger, jealousy and helplessness and from the ashes of this shall rise the hardhearted Empress again who will want to win and keep Jalal come what may...Rq is one fascinating character and coming from Ekta it is a huge surprise ...

another interesting scene was Jalal actually obeying his mother...i was so sure she will get insulted once again but seems better sense even in rage prevailed him ...he atleast listened to her even if for his own sake ...and told farida and her lover that it was only because of his mother he is sparing them ...

the contrast of love for both JA was obvious and the definition will change for both of them when they fall for each other...Jalal will realize that love is not weakness or losing one's pride and Jodha will realize that love is not a bed of roses but a path marred with hardship and tests...they have to find each other in the course of this journey and they will...am just waiting so eagerly for this track to start finally

i really hope the writers pay some heed to the culture and habits of the Rajputs se tin 16th century...it is appalling to see this ...creative liberty should not be exploited to this extent...purdah system played a huge huge role for them ...and a Rajput princess followed the norms very strictly ...if they can copy certain parts of the movie then they should copy the purdah system very well executed in the movie as well...

thank you so much for the pm...i could not contribute to the analysis yesterday but loved reading the post especially the comments on the portraits😆..both of the portraits were an eyesore..and they need to cut down on this bepanah husn jaap now just like jalal ka head jaap

and yes the whole mohabbat talk was a little too much to take ,she sounded more like a marriage counsellor than a Empress who is a mother unless Humayun did love her crazy and she got all these ideas from him 😆

Wonderfully written! It was just awesome as always. All of the post u make is just awesome! Yesterday's episode was really epic. They just wanted to show that Jalal doesn't believe in love and jodha does and he would start feeling something new when Jodha comes and it will take time for him to understand that it's love. First he would not agree that it's love but later on he will confess it to Jodha. Coming to the part about MA n BK convo it was the best. I have to say again awesome post!

Awesome post aunty..again a brilliant put together..👏.. and your Kate moss remark..!! could not stop laughing for a while.!🤣.. yes yesterday's episode was not up to the mark and specially Hamida banu and her sugar-coated voice...oh gosh..her voice always got on my nerves..and sometime she looks like lost in remembering the very next line of her dialog..How expressionless her face is..!!! 😲 I just wonder why EK did not rope in the actress who was in the movie as Hamida banu??..She looks from head to toe so royal and did a remarkable job..
