"If I'm not dancing, I end up using the gym" - Punit Pathak

Actor, dancer and choreographer Punit Pathak, who has successfully made it to the finals of Jhalak Dikh Laja season 6 with his partner Lauren, shares with urlremoved his take on health and fitness!

What does staying fit mean to you?

To me, staying fit means being healthy physically as well as mentally.

What fitness regime do you follow to keep in shape?

In my case, being physically active every single day is very important, as if I am not, my day just goes low! You can't give your body a jerk by starting up with some intensive workouts or exercises as that would just cause bad injuries, so I first indulge in some warm up exercises to loosen up and then get into hard core dancing for my rehearsals and shooting, to avoid injuring myself in any way. I also try and always eat healthy, as that helps me remain energetic throughout. Besides that, I indulge in some good dancing for around 2-3 hours every day.

Do you prefer hitting the gym or sticking to normal exercise routines like walking and playing sports?

If I am not dancing, I end up using the gym and get a good workout done. For me, sweating it out is very important!

Do you play sports and if yes then which sport?

I don't really get the time now, but I used to play a lot of cricket sometime back.

What are the 3 basic things you do daily to keep in shape?

I follow the 3 basic rules of eating, and so I eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a layman and dinner like a beggar. I also eat small meals or healthy snacks every 2 hours in the day to keep myself energetic but not too filled up. Other than that, my daily warm-up exercises and 2-3 hours of dance or a good gym workout are things which I never avoid, as that helps me get ready for my intense rehearsals and shooting time!

Do you feel that food and eating healthy plays an important part in keeping fit?

Oh yes definitely! Food plays the most important role in keeping fit and healthy.

Are you conscious of your eating habits and what does your daily diet contain?

As of now, I am eating anything and everything that helps me remain energetic and gets the best out of me during my Jhalak performances. Carbs are a very important part of my diet as of now because they really help me build up my energy levels while dancing, but yes I am still conscious of my eating habits and so whatever I am eating has to be something healthy and proportionate and nothing fried of course!

Do you believe in the size zero concept that has suddenly taken over everybody these days?

No not at all, as that is only a short term thing which does make you look good but actually makes your body very weak and inactive, which according to me is something extremely bad for anybody's body!

A male celebrity body that inspires you?

Has to be Brad Pitt!
