I remember you mentioning will the drama go off air some days after Cheeni track commenced. That time I was also one of the people who said that it could be based on TRP's so I don't know what went wrong over here become most of the times for such a sizzling chemistry other than TRP's nothing could be reason but now I laugh at my minimal knowledge.
For other things at the moment I simply don't know what to say. Will wait for the confirmed news so that I can finally say something
it seems generally with ITV, whenever they introduce a baccha track, inevitably, we have a leap or the end. so I wasn't surprised in some ways by the news today. however the main reason was simply the writing. no matter how good actors are or how good their chemistry is, they can't necessarily save sloppy writing. as a daily soap, it needs to follow some amount of logic -- by logic, I don't mean realism but as a viewer you have to be able to understand the story and accept even if you are watching dead asleep after a long day at work and munching your dinner at the same time.
I remember the old ekta serials used to crack me up -- even when you are rolling your eyes, you understand the internal logic of the dramaworld you are watching. that has been missing here since aditya and tripathis leaving. they had a good momentum earlier and then it fell poof.
since then, they have struggled on a key part that drives soaps and any form of literature really -- conflict. that literature element is what drives stories forward. since ITV is hopeless at creating internal conflict, then we needed villains who had good motivations. instead, we had blue aunty and baby doll who were primarily comic relief, that purandas who killed arvind was a joke, then universe baba jo..
malini is actually a good villain with strong motivation but instead of salvaging with a strong arc, they destroyed it with a track that actually confused half the fandom and made the TRP aunty gasp and shake their head -- the gudiya track. hence the fall in TRP. audience shouldn't have to think so hard to understand the motivations of imlie. this isn't sci-fi mumbo jumbo but daily drama -- it should be easy to get and not weird and confusing. it shouldn't make half the audience wonder if the female lead has a thing for her ex.
also, by focusing entirely on leads, they missed the opportunity to create arcs for side characters. in a longer format, the side characters are not props but are there to fill and add to the story so that audience have multiple couples to cheer on and tracks to watch -- so this gives them choice to keep watching even if one of the tracks bores them out of their mind. while having great actors, the production didn't take opportunity of creating good arcs for sunder, arpita, narmada, even baby doll and aunty blue. we could have had more.
so ultimately it boils down to writing. I have been feeling like they have been writing themselves into weird corners where they can't get out of in a way that would please audience.
in terms of TRP, I think it was fair to say that if TRP remains in a certain range, the show will likely continue. but it looks like there was some behind the scenes drama at production level -- creative differences, maybe ego clashes or issues with compensation -- and with the small dip in TRP, it was enough to consider pulling the plug...
lets see -- we still have to wait for confirmation.
