Ashwini is the funniest character in the show really, she just wants someone for her Godu who can mother him and pamper him. She never wanted a true partner for Virat, she just wanted her son to have his current fav toys, when it was Patralekha then she wanted P, now its Sai so she also wants Sai, because Godu ki pasand. Actually she is one of the most realest characters in the show, considering she isn't far off from what many moms in our society are, they are entitled themselves and groom their sons in a way they actually wanted their hubbies to be, because the husbands are either too absent or involved more with others (usually with their own mom, in case of Ashwini, Ninad was too much into his Vahini) than their own wife. Thus they try to fulfill that emotional gap with the help of their son. The son later on repeats the cycle, in this V did the same, by prioritizing his Vahini over and over his wife. These women raise extremely entitled sons who are nothing but man child who thinks they are right in every sense and no matter what they do, and they do something wrong, these men think the circumstances are to be blamed for them to take a necessary and people are not understanding their stance, they don't think they can do any wrong, which is a dangerous idea for any person to have.
Secondly, Ashwini herself had been groomed to take the abuse from Ninad and his family for over 30 years, which is why she also groomed a 18 year old Sai, by stating things like Virat is gussa and physically and emotionally hurting her because he loves her, which is absolutely wrong, and the core of everything wrong between S-V. This is why Sai always made fun or took Virat's lovey dovey actions for her very lightly, but whenever he was gussa and distant with her, she felt that he was "loving" her so she always ran for towards him. Case in point, post Satya-Sai (yeah no SaiYa for me now, enough already) marriage, V was distant and mocked her and showed his anger, while she was drowning in her love for V. Her love always appears when V is gussa, becuase his anger makes her think he truly loves and cares for her, as taught by Ashwini. For 18 year old Sai, it's understandable that she never could differentiate, but for 30-35 year old Sai who has been as independent doctor for around 10 years, I expected better than failing to understand that "gussa" and physical emotional abuse isn't love. I expected better from Sai than to believe into the words of a person like Ashwini, who herself never received love in her marriage with her husband, except for the first 2 years, and then later for the last 10 years. This is a marriage of 47 years apparently. Even now, more than love, it's the long companionship Ninad shared with this person which makes him value her a little bit better than he used to do previously, nothing more.
Ashwini is the one who repeatedly gave hope to P that one day she will get V's love just like Ashwini did after 37 years. That was yet another person she destroyed there. She is the one who manipulated and sometimes forced V to accept P's presence as his wife, giving further hopes to P (not excusing any of V's romance towards Pakhi, that was his own doing because by now it's quite obvious he did love her, he just didn't wanna accept it because it would make him look bad)
So I'll say, it's Ashwini who has been turning the story points and making certain characteristics so evident in so many characters.
