It has nothing to do with conservatism, the truth of the matter is that Indian viewer don't see the need in watching kisses on television. Yes they happen in bollywood now and they have happening in hollywood for quite a while but the point is television is something that reaches out to all sorts of people. You can find people watching tv in a small village in a small town or the big city in India. Thus, it ranges in viewers even though this may be a youth show on a youth channel, many family and individuals of all ages must be watching it so the channel has that to consider. Another thing I would like to say is that even though bollywood shows these intimate scenes they are not executed well and so lose the romance of it because it is such a new concept to Indian society. I feel like there is no need to show such scenes when romance can exist without it, if the scene is not shown properly or faked it ruins the point of it. I agree that the scene was very intimate today in Geet and everyone enjoyed it and it was perfect imagine if they had gone the step further and kissed. Then what? The scene might have lost the cute/shyness and romance of maan and geet. A kiss is something that needs to be shot well, and edited well for it appear natural. And the creative team does not have time for that with a show that runs 6 days a week.
Like someone mentioned above, kissing is not publicly done in India and that is just a cultural difference. Being from a western country we can see the difference, here it is publicly shown and so showing it on tv is not a big deal but in India it is a big deal because it is considered a very private/intimate thing that is only for the two involved. Indian viewers don't think that it is necessary, scenes are intimate and romantic enough without kisses and today was a prime example of that.

Isn't it amazing, you put two good actors really close to each other and they heat up the screen without doing anything.
Agar real kiss hoti to TV melt ho jata 😆

that scene was really hot... i won't mind seeing a kiss on small screen but the question is how comfortable wud i be to watch it with family... my mom too enjoys the show.. she started to do so recently...but even before the scenes became this steamy my mom commented it was too romantic to watch with a male around...and guess who that male member is...my husband (who returns home just when the serial has started, nd loves teasing me abt the show!). so i have to find an alternate time to watch the episode without hiccups!!

Lipaliscious:I have lived my life since a child, watching English movies and serials and so have not been able to figure out why people make a fuss abt intimate hugs and kisses and an intimate scene in bed even if its not sexually pronged. As I grew up, I began to feel a lot more shy, trying to categorize people as adults, youth and children, while watching intimate scenes. The enviornment has a lot to play in all these bold displays. In India, the scenes are more tantalizing, with more sexual overtones, pat on creating a sexual fervour and then bang - nothing happens. Then audiences want more and more and more....In the european or american set up - its more forthright and done with. What do the audiences want?? I think a lot of Indians would like to believe they are traditional but weirdly secretive about their sensual desires which are full blown yet unrevealed. These want the first kinda happening. The youth would like more explicit and bold scenes and done with.. And move on ....Both want it in 2 different ways.CVs know their audience thru forums, fbs etc. And they give it as required. I love a hot stolen kiss, but not too much of it displayed. All depends on the content and storyline of the serial.

Nice thread and a very insightful one!! 😊
I think its mainly bcoz lip-lock,and here when I say lip-lock, actors are really made to kiss and there is no involvement of camera angles, television hasn't broken that mould yet. Its only the scenes like dori tying, removing jewellery, or caressing of hair, placing dupatta at the right place, holding on the heroine when she slips off and sharing a 2 min eye-lock, lifts, dance, kiss-maximum neck kiss!So it is still believed that television is viewed by family and the time of telecast-9:30 in India is said to be a prime time, where family sits together for dinner and watch their telly shows. So even if it is not the truth, as in we change the channel immediately if there is some intensity going on, channels still feel maybe that it should be a family show! Which is 🤔In english celluloid, sex is never treated like a taboo.. while in India, parents still dont feel comfortable on talking about it with their kids.-Shreya
