Why?
Everyone except her mother knew what had happened. Gaurav was back at Munjals in Golf Links. Taaruni was too disgusted by it to call him and yell.
Tushar had instructed Pallavi to take her to a therapist, and to Dr Meher just to make sure. Taaruni didn’t sleep the whole night and kept lamenting about what could have happened if Pradyut hadn’t shown up.
“Abhi mat so, so ja”
“I mean, I don’t know how long these men where looking for a prey”
“Some men are absolute creeps Taroo”
“I cant go back Bhabhi, I have signed a lease on the store”
“Nothing is permanent, I will ask Tushar to talk to the agent tomorrow”
“Koi fayda nahi, I texted him on the way home, he said, it will take one year’s rent”
“KYAAA?”
“Exactly
“Lease kitne din ka hai?”
“Teen saal ka”
“TEEN SAAL? Why don’t you tell any of us before u do things?”
“Ma hates me, Bhai trusts me”
“AND ME? Main kuch bhi nahi?”
“Umm… no… I am just ashamed u will think you married a man whose siblings are complete losers, ek Gaurav Bhai ek main”
“Mujhe sikhaogi ki main kya sochoon?” Pallavi was hurt
“No… no… no no… I mean… Bhabhi, we are not exactly the beacons of achievement and dignity for you” Taaruni let a tear roll down a cheek, “Ur nand married a guy to save ur FIL’s store, or so she thought”
“So jao yaar” Pallavi was offended, got off the bed and walked to the lights
“Bhabhi don’t go”
“Bakwas band karo” she growled
“I thought I had it all figured out, now I have to fear creepy degenrates”
“Kuch hua nahi na” Pallavi hugged her warmly and pat her back, soothing her
“Usko mere se BAAT karne mein taqleef hai, he didn’t speak the whole f%$#@ing 44 minute ride”
“Don’t worry about him…. Good riddance” Pallavi’s lips twitched, her chin was on Taaruni’s shoulder
“I mean… THAT’S true” Taaruni tried to agree, but it made her angry that her own family was happy it ended
“To so jao ab”
“I asked him of he went to a Doc, he READ my messages and didn’t answer” she was furious
“You walked away from everything Tarooo”
“I know” she covered her eyes with her hand and cried
Pallavi noticed, she wasn’t terrified of her experience, his indifference was devastating
“I am supposed to see him the rest of my life for the child’s sake? MAIN to nahi miloongi usko, he can see the kid I will not see him if I don’t have to”
“Itna mat socho”
“can u imagine being confronted with such coldness?”
“Main call karoon?” Pallavi asked suddenly, and dialed
AND Pradyut answered on 3rd ring, it was noisy and they could hear music
“How are you?” she asked
“Good?” Pradyut was walking toward a quiet place
“And you?” he quizzed
“Good Pradyut
Taaruni listened with bated breath
“How is she doing?”
“In shock…” Pallavi sighed
There was a long silence
He didn’t know he was on speaker
“Well the store needs to be shut before the sun sets, the area is seedy, and borders a slum” he said bluntly
Taaruni stormed out
“Sorry?” Pradyut questioned
“I shut a window” Pallavi quickly covered “Sorry”
“I hope you will pass this on”
“Ghar nahi aaogey?”
“Umm.. no”
“Pradyut, we should sit down”
“No I don’t think so” “I got to go”
“Did u see a Doc?”
“I did… thanks Pallavi”
“Call her sometime Pradyut” Pallavi was direct
“Why?” he asked
