Chapter 12 (Heartbreak)

Kapoor House – Nikhil and Naaz's Bedroom

Advait entered the room to find Nikhil seated at the edge of the bed, wincing as he struggled to apply antiseptic to the wounds on his back. The first aid kit lay open beside him. A sharp hiss of pain escaped Nikhil's lips as he accidentally pressed too hard.

Without a word, Advait rushed forward, gently taking the cotton from his brother's hand. "What were you thinking, trying to do this on your own? You could've asked Naaz for help."

Nikhil offered a bitter smile. "Veere... after what I've done to her, I don't deserve her concern. I can't expect her to care for me—not as a wife, not even as a person."

Advait's eyes softened with sympathy. He sat beside Nikhil and quietly began cleaning the wounds, careful with every touch.

"When you knew it was wrong to fall in love outside your marriage," he asked gently, "why did you still go down that path?"

Nikhil looked ahead, then turned to face his brother. "Is love something we can control, Veere?"

Advait paused, the cotton still in his hand. The question struck deeper than he expected.

Randhawa House – Mallika's Room

Mallika sat clutching a photograph of her father, Jaiveer, tears streaking her face.

"I'm sorry, Dad," she whispered. "I never meant to bring shame upon our family. I don't even know when or how it happened... it just did."

A throat cleared behind her. She turned to see Ekam entering, now changed out of his bloodied clothes. She quickly wiped her tears and placed the photo back on the table.

Ekam walked over and sat beside her. "Are you alright?"

Mallika didn't reply—instead, she threw herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. "No, Bhai... I'm not. I'm sorry. I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

Ekam gently pulled her back, wiping her tears. "Do you remember how broken you were when you thought Nehmat and Advait betrayed us?"

Mallika blinked at him in surprise. "Thought? They did betray us."

Ekam sighed, shaking his head. "No, Mallika. They didn't. That was our misunderstanding. Those photos—they were planted by someone who wanted to tear us apart."

Mallika stared at him, dumbfounded.

"It took me time to understand, but the truth is—they never meant to hurt us. We were victims of someone else's game."

Mallika looked away, the weight of guilt slowly creeping in.

Ekam's tone softened. "Do you remember how it felt when you thought they broke your trust?"

She nodded faintly.

"Then why are you ready to do the same to another woman?" he asked pointedly.

Her eyes brimmed with tears again. "Bhai, I've always disliked Naaz... but I never meant to come between her and Nikhil. I swear, we never crossed a line. We didn't have an illicit relationship."

Ekam took her hands in his. "Okay... I believe you." He gave a small smile. "Now, will my little sister listen to something I ask?"

Mallika hesitated. "You want me to never see Nikhil again?"

Ekam shook his head. "No. I want you to get married."

Mallika's breath caught in her throat.

Kapoor House – Nikhil and Naaz's Bedroom

"I know what I did was wrong," Nikhil murmured as Advait continued tending to his wounds. "But I couldn't help falling for Mallika..."

Advait said nothing, his hands moving mechanically.

Nikhil looked up. "You're hurt too, Veere. Shouldn't you treat your own injuries?"

Advait's voice was tight. "Forget about me. Tell me—what will you do now to make things right?"

Nikhil sighed. "I'll try to fix things with Naaz."

Advait frowned. "Didn't you say you feel trapped in a loveless marriage? That it's too late?"

Nikhil nodded. "It is late. But if my actions are bringing disgrace to our family, then I'll do what's necessary—for their sake."

Advait's gaze dropped. "And what about your sake, Nikhil? Your happiness?"

Nikhil didn't answer.

Randhawa House – Mallika's Room

Mallika stood frozen in shock after Ekam's proposal.

He began to walk away, but she called after him. "Do you remember, Bhai... when Mom asked you the same thing?"

Ekam paused mid-step.

"You said no... because you still loved Nehmat. Why should it be any different for me?"

Ekam turned his head slightly. "My situation was different. I knew Advait and Nehmat had a marriage of convenience, and I respected that boundary."

He faced her again, voice firm. "But you? You're knowingly standing between a husband and a wife—even if you didn't mean to. It's not the same, Mallika."

With that, he walked out, leaving her standing still, shattered. She slowly sank into the bed, her tears falling freely once more.

Kapoor House – Nikhil and Naaz's Bedroom

Trying to lighten the moment, Nikhil chuckled bitterly, his voice quivering. "My happiness lies in my family's happiness. If I must sacrifice mine for theirs... so be it."

Advait looked at his brother with sorrow. He could see Nikhil was forcing himself to let go of his feelings.

As he turned to leave, Nikhil called out, "Veere... I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you, or anyone else."

Advait froze. Those words pierced through his chest. Nehmat's question echoed in his mind: "What's more important to you—your family or its reputation?"

He turned back and embraced Nikhil tightly. "Thank you," he whispered, overwhelmed.

Nikhil blinked in confusion. "For what?"

Advait pulled away and smiled. "For giving me the answer I was looking for."

Just then, Naaz entered the room. Advait turned to her. "Naaz, please take care of Nikhil."

She nodded silently.

"I need to speak with you too—something important. I'm stepping out now. Meet me in an hour."

Naaz agreed, puzzled by the sudden calm in his tone. As Advait left, she turned her attention toward Nikhil, glared at him coldly, and walked straight into the bathroom without uttering a word.

Nikhil exhaled deeply, leaning back with a heavy heart.

Kapoor House – Living Room

Advait walked out into the living area with slow, steady steps, his expression uncharacteristically calm—almost serene. His thoughts replayed Nehmat's challenge like a mantra:

"I challenge you, Mr. Advait Kapoor... Until you find the answer to that question, there will be no cordial relationship between us—not as friends, not as husband and wife."

A soft smile appeared on his face, one touched with clarity. For the first time, he felt close to the answer.

As he reached the dining hall, his eyes landed on Nehmat, who was setting the plates quietly, absorbed in the rhythm of her task. He was about to speak when Neeru Bua interrupted, giving Nehmat instructions. Advait waited patiently, hands in pockets, until Neeru left.

Then he walked up and called softly, "Nehmat..."

She turned, curious and caught off guard, but before either of them could speak, Rama's voice rang from inside, summoning Nehmat.

She looked apologetically at Advait. "I'll be back soon."

He nodded.

As she turned to go, the Udaariyaan background score began (1:15 – 2:32).

Advait stood still, watching her walk away, his heart full. His smile deepened, more resolved this time.

"Now I understand, Nehmat... why you asked me that question. Between family and its reputation, the answer is always family. Because without the family, there is no reputation worth saving."

He turned around and walked in the opposite direction, his steps determined.

"You asked me for one day, Nehmat. Now I will fix everything... in less than that. And no one will stop me from reaching my Udaariyaan... because you are my Udaariyaan, Nehmat."

The scene closed with Nehmat and Advait walking in opposite directions, both unaware of the emotional storm about to hit.

Late Evening – Kapoor House, Office Room

The clock ticked quietly in the office as Advait pored over legal documents. A knock broke the silence. It was Naaz.

He gestured for her to enter. She stepped in and asked sharply, "Why did you ask to meet me, Jethji?"

Without speaking, Advait slid a stack of papers across the table. Naaz picked them up and glanced through—her brows furrowed.

"These are divorce papers," Advait said plainly. "I'm giving you two choices: either change yourself and be the wife my brother deserves, or sign these and free him from this toxic relationship. If you refuse, I'll expose you in front of the entire family."

Naaz's face tensed. "Expose me? On what grounds?"

Advait leaned forward. "I have proof that you leaked Jaiveer Randhawa's case to the media. You're also the one who took manipulated photos of me and Nehmat and twisted the story into a scandal. You orchestrated it all."

Naaz's eyes widened in shock.

"But—"

Advait cut her off. "Don't play innocent. I'm not like the others you manipulate. You will choose one of the two options I gave you."

Naaz was silent for a beat. Then she walked up with a smirk, took the pen from his chest pocket, and signed the papers with a dramatic flourish. "There—I've freed your beloved brother."

Advait stared at her in disbelief. "You're really not willing to try and fix your marriage?"

Naaz shrugged, her smile icy. "Why should I? He has feelings for someone else. And you, Jethji, of all people, should understand how that feels. After all, aren't we both living with people whose hearts belong to someone else?"

Advait's jaw clenched. "Stop it. Don't try to twist this. I'm not going to fall for your manipulations."

Naaz took a step closer, her voice laced with poison. "Even if I say I know what happened between you and Nehmat... that night?"

Advait froze.

Naaz smirked wider. "Yes... that night. The night filled with passion, right?"

His eyes widened in disbelief. "You... know about that?"

Naaz nodded slowly. "Nehmat shared a lot with me."

Udaariyaan heartbreak BGM (0:00 – 1:14) began playing faintly in the background.

Then she said the words that shattered him:
"Nehmat spent that night... thinking it was Ekam."

It was like the air was sucked out of the room. Advait's hands, once gripping her arms in fury, fell limply to his sides. His eyes bulged in disbelief, his lips parted as though the words had physically struck him.

Naaz smiled in triumph.

Interior – Corridor Outside the Office

As the BGM played on, Naaz stepped outside, turned, and looked back at the broken man behind her. Her grin never faded.

"Tch tch... I really do feel bad for you, Advait," she said mockingly. "But I had to give you both a return gift... for interfering in my married life. Poor Nehmat, she doesn't even know the storm I'm conjuring around her."

She smirked cruelly, rubbed the side of her nose with her index finger, and whispered to herself, "Hun hona hai swaad."

She turned and walked away.

Inside the Office – Advait

The final heartbreak track (0:00–1:14 and then "Hoga Kabhi Aisa" from linked audio) swelled.

Advait sank to his knees, the gravity of Naaz's words crashing down on him. Tears welled in his eyes. He tried to breathe but failed—his chest clenched with betrayal, confusion, and grief.

He remembered Nehmat's smile, her soft touch, their shared laughter, their stolen moments... and that night.

"So all of that... all of that was... for Ekam?" he whispered, voice cracking.

As the music rose, flashbacks of Nehmat caressing his face, kissing him, lying beside him—everything played out like a dream turned nightmare.

He broke down completely, covering his face with his hands.

Final Montage – Background Song: "Waariyaan" ()

"Hoga kabhi aisa kya thi khabar..."

Advait sobbed as memories flashed across his mind like scenes from another life.

"Khushiyon ki kiski lagi hai nazar..."

He got up, staggered back, and leaned against the corner of the wall—broken, devastated.

"Waariyaan, waariyaan thi jaan waariyaan..."

The line "Haariyaan... haariyaan mein toh sab haariyaan..." played just as Advait slid down the wall, holding his chest as if trying to contain the ache within.

The camera pulled back slowly as he whispered through his tears:

"What will I do now... when you were my Udaariyaan, Nehmat?"

The screen faded into black as the final line echoed:

"Tutte hai pankh, reh gayi udaariyaan..."

People like Naaz deserve to be alone. 😡

I don't mind stories around EMA as long as they are well-handled. The parties take responsibility for their actions and don't blame everyone around them. In your story, Nikhil and Mallika seem to recognize the gravity of their relationship and don't blame Naaz for it. I like that.

Chapter 13 (What should I do?)

Kapoor House – Office Room

With trembling hands and bloodshot eyes, Advait pulled himself up from the corner of the room. Every word Naaz had uttered echoed in a relentless loop inside his mind:

"Nehmat spent the night with you thinking you were Ekam..."

The words clanged in his ears like cruel church bells, over and over, louder with each passing second. He pressed his palms to his ears in desperation, trying to shut them out—but the echoes refused to fade. His breathing turned shallow. His eyes welled with pain too heavy to contain.

Kapoor House – Kitchen

Meanwhile, Nehmat was absently stirring a curry on the stove, lost in thought.

"Did I put too much pressure on Advait? I only wanted clarity... not to burden him."

She looked up at the wall clock.

"It's quite late. Where is he? Maybe he's still in the office room."

Concern flashed across her face. She turned off the stove and quickly made her way toward the office.

Kapoor House – Corridor Outside the Office

As "Kya dekhna tha, kya hai dikha..." began to play in the background, Advait, barely steady on his feet, stepped out of the room.

At the very same moment, Nehmat turned the corner and arrived at the office door.

Their paths—so close, yet painfully misaligned.

"Waariyaan waariyaan jaan waariyaan..." Audio given below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJwjz2wMBT0

Advait walked past the adjacent corridor, his figure lost in shadows, while Nehmat opened the door to find the office empty.

Inside the Office Room

She glanced around. "He's not here? Then where could he be?"

On the Road – Late Evening

Advait drove aimlessly, tears cascading silently down his face. The lights on the road blurred with the memories flooding his mind—moments of laughter, longing, shared glances, and that one unforgettable night.

"Kismet mein shayad yahi tha likha..."

His hands trembled on the wheel. At last, he pulled over. He couldn't drive another inch.

Reaching into the back seat, he pulled out a half-drunk bottle of beer. He opened the door and began to walk, taking desperate swigs under the weight of heartbreak.

The song continued to haunt him as he staggered, empty bottle in hand, to the side of the road. He threw it into the bushes and cried out:

"What do I do now? What should I do?"

That's when he heard it—a kirtan flowing softly through the night air.

He turned his head. He had unknowingly reached the gates of a Gurdwara.

Gurdwara Entrance

A strange calm descended over him. He removed his shoes, covered his head with a scarf, and stepped onto the marble floor with folded hands.

Inside, the kirtan resonated—gentle, sacred, comforting.

Advait approached the front, knelt down, and placed his forehead on the cool floor before the Guru Granth Sahib.

Tears returned as he whispered from the depths of his soul:

"Babaji... what do I do now? I never knew Nehmat still had feelings for Ekam. I thought we were healing. I thought... she was mine. What do I do now?"

His thoughts were still spinning when the Granthi Sahib approached, gently brushing a chaur sahib over his head. Advait looked up, startled.

The Granthi smiled, reading the pain in his eyes.

"You seem lost, my child. Were you asking Rab ji for an answer in your ardaas?"

Advait stood, folding his hands. "Yes, Baba. I'm in a terrible dilemma."

The Granthi nodded. "What burdens your heart?"

Advait exhaled shakily. "It's about... my love."

Kapoor House – Dining Room

The family sat for dinner. Nehmat, however, kept glancing anxiously toward the door, her plate untouched.

Nikhil reached out to serve Naaz, but she snapped, "I still have two hands, I can serve myself."

Rama and Neeru Bua exchanged uncomfortable glances. Rama, noticing Nehmat's distracted state, gently said, "Nehmat beta, Advait must be caught up with something. Sit down and eat with us."

Nehmat forced a small smile. "No, Auntyji. I'll wait. I'll have dinner with him once he comes home."

From across the table, Naaz smirked. Her inner monologue was venomous:

"Tch. Poor Nehmat... waiting like a dutiful wife, unaware that her husband will never return to her again—not tonight, not ever. Because I told him something no man could ever bear to hear..."

She smugly rubbed the side of her nose with her index finger and whispered under her breath: "Hun hona hai swaad."

Gurdwara – Worship Area

The Granthi looked kindly at Advait and said, "My child... love, in our faith, is another name for Rab. But true love... is also freedom. If you truly love her, free her—from guilt, from expectations, from pain. If you make her happy, only then will you find peace."

Advait's eyes shimmered with unshed tears. The words were like balm on his torn soul, yet they stirred a new ache—a selfless ache.
