Saturday Social

Saturday dawned with a big drama, Dhru was allowed to play with the U2 boys next door in the morning

Kirti Sahasre allowed her boys to come in but peeked every 10 minutes so Mrunalini left the door unbolted after the 3rd time

It was boggling to Kirti that Dhru would have so many toys and books and gadgets

She asked 100 questions about how Mrs Gomes’ apartment was designed so uniquely and where the 2nd bedroom was, and why the first bedroom was double the size,

Mrunal sensed some “Lynn vibes” from her

There was no reason to love this flat so much she thought the Bandra flat was twice as big and had a fantastic views, Aatreya’s Khar apartment was the best of all with 180 degree wrap around balcony

But Kirti was inquisitive

Finally she came out and asked who Aatreya was

Mrunal told her “The father…. But we are not living together”

Then began the “Divorce? Out of wedlock baby?” “Acquaintance?”

Mrunal wanted to say None of the above

“One night stand”

But knew the next second U2 would be gone from Dhru’s life

Her life was choc a block with events and people that could be roasted and raked over live coals

Her mother pregnant at 49 years with a second husband just to spite her oldest daughter

Her father in bed with a 23 year old at the age of 50

A loveless childhood

A boy with a million allergies

One night stand

A boy with social anxiety and awkwardness at school

No maternal grandparents connection

The list was long….

Oh! Kirti did get to all of it

She wanted to know which part of Maharashtra she was from, who were her relatives, wanted to go into the antecedents of the blue eye gene

The questions were endless

They were invited for dinner at Aatreya, she was getting semi-panic attack over it

She knew Aatreya wanted Dhru to sleep over

She hadn’t approached that topic with Dhru at all

She had tried to twice yesterday but to him his immediate excitement was playing with the U2 boys

Around 2 hourish into the games and fun the siblings fought with each other and ran off

Leaving Jaidrith in tears

And staring out the grill door

The U2 boys were a bit overwhelming for him anyway, loud, noisy, rambunctious

She had no idea how to help him get to a “friendship” stage with kids

He had no childhood friends, she didn’t know how to help him break the ice

She plied them with snacks and cookie and candy but noticed the boys were very protective of each other and only played with Dhru if he would let them use all his favorite toys

They had no interest in reading

Dhru spent the 2nd hour just reading his comics

“It was not cool you complained about me to my husband” Lynn texted her around 6 when she was getting ready to go out to dinner

“To who?” Mrunal questioned

“My husband and I fought, you must hate me”

Mrunal was dumbfounded

She ignored it

When they arrived at Aatreya’s they had to ring the doorbell thrice

He sprinted to the door, as he turned down the music

Always elegantly dressed, jeans and a linen check shirt in lemon yellow with his signature white vest underneath

A grey apron covered most of his front

“I had the music on too loud”

Dhru was upset because she had told him they had to go

She had tried explaining to him why he would want to hang out with boys who basically ignored him the 2nd half of the play date

No luck

Too much arguing and drama

She wore a orange floral swing dress with a halter neck and denim jacket, and tan ankle strap flats

“smells like food”

“Thank u” “That’s what I am hoping to go for”

They stood smiling at each other

“I didn’t know what to bring, I just bought a red and a white” she handed him two slim paper gift bags with the bottles

“Oh gosh! This is too much” he smiled

“You don’t drink?”

“I serve” “Sure” he nodded

“U don’t eat meat and u don’t drink?” she was bummed

“I can exchange it for some non alc spritzer next week” she stood outside the door nervous and fidgety

“That would be better we can meet next week as well” he nodded

“OK” she nodded looking for her keys

“Come on in Mrunalini” he opened the door wide and went off to the side his eyes twinkling

Indeed a Saturday special.

Nisha, can you make this Saturday even more special for us by letting Mrunalini herself as well agree for sleepover along with Dhruv at Atty’s?

He/She can give excuse since its first time would be better if she stays back too.

Finding man who is vegetarian and doesn't drink in today's world would be rare.

Lynn vibes. Now another woman who wants that flat Mru has.

No wonder Mru is so guarded around people. Her life provides too much juicy gossip for them.

A dinner date. Hopefully a nice dinner will further loosen up Mru.

Getting so fed up with Lynn. She was in the wrong and taking it out on Mru. She should double check her facts about who told who what.
