She didn’t expect to see him at night at a friend’s barsati/top floor apartment in the DDA colony, she spent the day at Shahpur Jat doing aroll call, figuring out next steps for establishing a permanent outpost for the NGO, with a store front of sorts, Dilli Haat was out of question too much politics and too many hoops to jump through
Halima, Ishwar Ratna Farha and Suhani and her sat on the dhurried floor and went through every scenario, every accounting transaction from the last year, profit was negligible but they were not in the red

She sniffled trying to fight a sneeze….
“To theek hai aap naye naam ko register karwa do, main phir yaha se nikalne ke baat kar leta hoon property dealer se”
“Naam ko lottery style mein nikalte hain” she laughed sneezing
“Iqrar aur Malti ne jo choose kiya last time who rakh lete hain” ratna laughed trying to look for that file in her C drive
“hamey Cloud ke liye pay karna shuru kar dena chahiye, har koi hamare files ko kahin bhi access kar sakta hai”
“Bijli chali gayi tab bhi?” Suhani asked
“TAB nahi” Viveka laughed shaking her head folding her hands in prayer
“Phir kya fayda”
“Keh doongi Bezos ko” Viveka laughed

Viveka spent the next 20 minutes explaining how it all worked
She had a white board on the naked brick wall it was the most useful investment she had made

She didn’t hear back for 3 hours
She had sent Rathiji off saying she will work till the evening
She wanted to take the Metro to see her JNU friends today she was disturbed by Smrita’s texts
When she was done at JNU, Raanav texted her as if on cue

“I believe I do” she said pretending to sound sincere
“Ah, can I talk to him please?”
“Abhi main building me hoon”
“I can wait”

She frantically tried to reach Rathiji
No answer
“Hes not here”
“I know Viveka Mathur”
“Meri test le rahe the?” she was irritated
“U can ride home with Mum, she is on her way back”
“NO… I am OK”
“Whoa?”
“I am fine I just realized…”
“What”
“Umm.”
“I can, I have to go figure something about a Vigyan Bhawan thing”
“She is almost at the gate Vi” he was irritated
“Mujhse nahi pooch sakte the?” she was hopping mad
“WHY?” he was angry too “Uve been told a zillion times u are not supposed to let the driver go. You let go of him you lie to me and don’t want to ride with my Mum”
“I didn’t let him go I told him I will get a ride home around 6ish”
“Well he scraped a sidewalk to avoid a redline bus but hit it anyway they are trying to impound it near airport”
“Was I supposed to know this would happen”
“I am done arguing with you”
“I don’t need a ride?”
“WHY?”
“Because ur mother told me we don’t have to be civil to each other when no one is watching and I refuse to ride with her pretending to be civil I would rather take a Metro home.” She was in tears as she hung up
He had seen his mother’s text this morning he was already upset with his Dad about a work thing, his cold war with Satyen was never ending
His mother had p---ed him off also
He chose to ignore her text
But now it was coming back to bite him
“Vi” he texted
And called
“Mujhe call mat karo”
“TEXT in ENGLISH for God’s sake”
“Grow up! TRANSLATE!”
I feel Ra and Vi's relationship is going in a good direction. They are coming little closer. She is accepting his gifts, he is becoming more observant and concerned. She chose to share her apprehension about his mother with him. I hope Raanav will take some stand this time.
The Cold War at multiple levels in multiple relationships is getting to a point where it's going to be a nasty public showdown of sorts. There's now too much negative energy everyone's inhaling at the parashar mansion.
I for one don't honestly get Satyen's actions. His rude awakening to the most obvious/ disagreeable facts and his dissing smrita and Raanav is not going to get the redemption out of them. Even His reprimand at multiple levels in multiple relationships is doing more harm than good.
I think his most sane course of action to strive for 'civility ' would be to let Raanav and veev 'Go'. I mean really LET GO. The only way to make smrita bite the dust is her realization that she drove her son away. Even then I wouldn't dream of expecting a redemption from her .
Dadi had given her earful about wasting money on bekaar ki qitaabein when she had told Dadi about what Amartya usually wrote about
“Gareebi to hamare desh mein har jagah hai, uske liye kitab kyon padhogi? BATAO?”
This line from Dadi is a rude awakening too 👏. She is a very wise soul🤣
