A lovely description of the malice named child marriage.

Girls are married off at an age when all they should do is play and study , instead they are dunked in chores pertaining to running a successful household.

Your stories always address something different and I am loving this story to the hilt.

so touching right
well yes he is right she is too young but then this used to happen
hope they wouldnt let her childhood go to waste
or force her to grow up so soon
but it will have to be arnie who can stop this or prevent it for a while
wait who exactly is thami
hmm so khushi dear was just pretending to be shy and demure
bless she is so cute
and she was right by going to him
after all she is his responsibility
hope all works out for them

Brought tears to my eyes Jenny.

Arnab's turmoil. Khushi's innocence, Arnab's frustration, Khushi's insecurities...every single emotion was brilliantly expressed...

Loved thammi to the core..

It will be really interesting to see how is Arnav going protect his little bride from the family/social expectations...Arnab's ma is already training her "bouma"(daughter in law ) to be the ideal wife and mother... he might feel disgusted with the men who could see a woman in a child and wants his wife to enjoy her childhood but unfortunately it will be expected of Khushi to become a mother as soon as they start their marital life..with passing years if nothing happens she will be branded as 'baja or baNj"..

My heart cries out for those women(including my great grandmother) who were forced to bear the responsibility of bearing children at such tender ages...sometimes even at the cost of their life kept on bearing children...and also a big salute to them for taking on such responsibilities with such brilliance..

A big shout to the social reformers like Raja Ram Moham Roy and Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar for raising their voice against child marriage in Bengal and paving the way for its abolition in later years...

Looking forward to the story unfolding...

Wonderful and thought provoking update...loved it.
Child marriage in that era happened in almost every State in India and if the wife died man could marry the younger sister of his deceased wife and the age of the girl was not taken in consideration. Thus custom carried on until the social reform came.

Khushi is such sweet child..she made my heart melt and I do feel sorry for her but she does't feel sorry for herself as she does't know any better and she has been conditioned to see Arnav as her husband and she has to learn to be a good wife and eventually a mother but she is a child with child's heart who is't ready to let go of her doll and her childhood and who can blame her. Child Khushi...she is so cute in her saari.

Arnav an unusual and sensitive young man for that time as people from different times just accept the social norm and they don't question them or go into the detail of being right and wrong
and he does't want to take the innocence and childhood of Khushi away from her and seeing a child as his wife and listening to her childish chatter making him feel embarresed and uncomfortable but at the same time he feels for this child and does't want her childhood taken away from her and by getting her doll for her from his mother and giving it back to Khushi he is in his own way will be doing a great thing.

Jenny what can I say about this story, writing historical story or time story is your forte and you do a complete justice to it, as a prove one only has to read 'Impenetrable Heart' to know the fact.
and no one can write that kind like you do. This is one story where no one can guess what's going to happen but I do wonder.
Please continue soon.
Will wait for the next part eagerly.
Thanks for the update.

Very good update...at least he is conscious of the fact that she is child...a different era from nowadays... In 21st century we women take every thing for granted and forgotten how our great great grandmothers suffered
