Chapter 19
"You are pregnant Sharon. You are not very far along, but your recent miscarriage and operation are enhancing the symptoms."
Sharon's mouth dropped open, her eyes were wide and she was looking him dumbfounded. Swayam on the other hand now had a huge grin on his face and his chest was puffing with pride.
"Is everything going to be OK with the pregnancy, because of the operation I mean. Is there something we should be careful of? Should we stop making love until the baby comes? Can we see it in an ultrasound?" Swayam had tonnes of questions and he was asking them all at once. Those questions snapped Sharon out of her trans state.
"Swayam!!!!" She yelled at him
"No no no don't worry Sharon. Your fianc is right to ask all these things. By my calculations Sharon has just entered her second month of pregnancy which puts the conception date about three weeks ago. That means we won't be able to see the baby for a few more weeks. All we might be able to see now with an ultrasound is the little bag which the baby is in. The operation Sharon had, should not cause any problems to the baby's growth, but I advice you to visit right away her obgyn to monitor the baby closely. Sharon I suspect your pregnancy symptoms will be much more enhanced than your previous pregnancy, which unfortunately means prepare yourself for a lot of morning sickness dizziness fatigue and all those glorious feelings you will totally forget as soon as you hold your baby in your arms. As for the sex part of the equation, it will not hurt the baby and you should proceed as usual if Sharon feels well."
"Of course of course. I didn't mean to sound like a pig that only thinks of him self." Swayam said feeling embarrassed. "Fairy we will do whatever you want"
Sharon didn't know what to think. All this couldn't be happening. She was probably still faint and was dreaming of all of these. Wishful thinking.
"Doctor there must be a mistake. I cannot be pregnant. I still haven't got my period once since the operation." She was still trying to rationalize things.
"Well in order to have your monthly menstruation you have to have an ovulation first. You got inseminated in your first ovulation after the operation and that is why you haven't got your period yet." The doctor tried to explain to her.
"But doctor we've always used protection" Sharon was starting to get irritated again.
"Well not exactly." Swayam said looking down, suddenly finding great interest in his shoes.
"What do you mean not exactly?" Sharon was reaching her boiling point again.
"I will leave you two talk about it alone. I am going to come back when the rest of your exams are ready" the good doctor said and left leaving them by themselves to solve their differences.
"What do you mean not exactly, Swayam?"
"The night of Kria's party that you got drunk, if you recall I told you I was pretty tipsy myself. Well a few days later when we started dating, I was looking over my condom supplies and I realized that I had not used any protection that night. When we reached my place and I finally had you in my arms, I did not even think about it. And that is something that has never happened before to me." He said looking sheepishly at her.
Sharon could not blame him about this whole situation. She was equally responsible for the use of protection during sex. And they both had the same "excuse" for not even thinking about it. They were drunk. Boy that night really turned their lives around.
"Swayam what are we going to do?"
"Well we'll patiently are going to wait for the good doctor to finish his examining you. And then we are going to go home and plan."
"Plan what?"
"The rest of our lives together. Do you want us to marry now or after the baby is born? It will be nice if she was the ring barer" he said dreamily.
"Swayam please be serious. We are going out for two weeks and we know each other for three. You can't seriously be asking me to marry you. I don't want you to feel obligated towards me because of the baby."
"Hush! She is hearing you! I don't want her to think that I don't love her!"
"Oh the baby is a she? You know that because of the super ultrasound on your head?" She was getting irritated by his behaviour. He was acting like a child. An irresponsible one.
"Yes I am sure she is a girl. Now I get to have two fairies" he said ecstatic.
Sharon could not believe him. He actually was glad about the baby. This was something new for her, since the previous time she had announced her pregnancy her ex wanted to disappear of the face of the earth. Swayam went on bubbling about how he was going to decorate his girls room with fairies and good witches, so his little girl would have company when he would deprave her from her mama fairy. His optimism and happiness was starting to have an effect on her.
"So what happens if by the struck of luck your personal ultrasound is wrong and we are having a boy?"
"Oh I don't mind in the least. I'll need help from another man in the house to protect all the little fairies we are having." He beamed at her and her jaw dropped.
"What other fairies are you talking about? Did they inject you with something here, while you were waiting outside? Should I call the doctor back for you this time."
"My sweet love, about a week ago I had already admitted to myself that not only I am crazy in love with you but that you are the love of my life. I intent to spend my life with you. I just did not want to rush you in it and scare you, especially since you recently got out of a bad relationship that lasted a long time and cost you too much. This baby is a blessing in disguise for me. There is nothing I want more than to make many babies with you. And I am not only referring to the process of making babies" he winked at her and continued "I want to raise them with you by my side. I want us to be a family. I want you to be my wife. Would you bless me with your everyday presence in my life sweet fairy?"
Sharon was just looking at him. She could not believe he had just proposed to her.
"Swayam I don't know what to say. Things are evolving too fast for me. Let me digest all this. I still can't believe I am pregnant. I want to be positive about this but what if something goes wrong and I loose this baby. I wouldn't want you to be bound to me for a baby that was not meant to be"
"Did you hear anything me or the doctor said? You and this baby are going to be fine and in about eight months we will be holding her to our arms. And I LOVE YOU. I want to spend my life with you. I did not propose for the sake of the baby. If you don't believe me I will show you the engagement ring I bought last weekend from the medieval resort we were staying at. It is perfect and I wanted to have it in hand in case the correct moment presented itself for me to propose. And I am so stupid that I did not carry it with me at all times." He said clearly frustrated at himself.
"You are amazing you know that?" she looked at him with eyes full of love.
"No I am not. You are doped up. You are not thinking clearly. Just remember, we will do whatever you wish. We will get married only if you want us too and when you want us too. What I want from you is not to stress out and to enjoy your pregnancy. You deserve it."
Sharon was crying by the time he said all he had to say. The doctor came to them at that point and when he saw the tears on Sharon's cheeks he got worried.
"Is there something wrong Sharon, do you feel pain somewhere?"
"No doctor these are tears of happiness."
"Well that is good because all of your other exams came just fine and I can discharge you to go home on the condition that you don't overstress yourself and that you won't sleep for 12 hours. That is only a precaution to rule out any possibility of a concussion."
"OK doctor I'll keep an eye on her."
"I am sure you will. Sharon do you have an obgyn or do you want me to give you some names?"
"No I have one thank you."
"All right I will get you some forms to sign and you are ready to go"
"Thanks for everything doctor" Swayam told him.
"You are welcome and congratulations"
Sharon signed the papers and they left. On their way to Swayam's car he asked her.
"Do you want us to go to your place or mine?"
"Drop me of to mine and then you can go back to work."
"Are you insane? I have already had Kria clear my schedule for today. Hey I have two fairies to protect now." He said full of pride.
"My god I have created a monster" she said teasingly. "But really I am feeling OK if you want to go"
"Fat chance! Call your obgyn and get an appointment for today. The doctor said we have to go right away."
Sharon called and booked an appointment for that afternoon. Swayam took her to her place so that she would feel more comfortable there and ordered lunch for them. In the mean time Sharon was still struggling with the idea that a baby was growing again in her womb. Swayam's little fairy. She kept wondering whether everything would be different this time.
Swayam and Sharon ate peacefully and Sharon went to sit in the sofa to watch the news. Swayam came up and sat with her and eventually Sharon ended up in his lap. They sat in silence; both busy in their musing, Sharon was trying to get used to the idea of a baby growing inside her again and Swayam dreaming of the future he could have with his two fairies. Kria called from the office and informing them that everything was fine there and they need not worry about a thing. She was worried about Sharon; asking if everything was ok with her. Swayam reassured her that Sharon was fine and that she would have to take it easy for a little while. After he hung up, Sharon broke their mutual silence by making her point of how she planned to handle everything from now on.
"Swayam, I don't intend to endanger this baby in any way and I promise I will always be careful, but I am not going to stop working. It is not like I am lifting weights or anything in my line of work. I can easily manage the deals at the office till the time to deliver. And then when the baby comes I will have to stay home for a little while but after a couple of months I am sure we will be able to figure something out for me to return to work."
Swayam was watching her bemused. She never failed to amaze him. She had already proved that she was not anything like his previous assistant who took advantage of her relationship with his friend to skip work, but to insist that he let her work until she gave birth. And that she would come back to work after only two months of staying at home. Well she was one amazing piece of work. He wanted her to be happy but he did not intend to work her to exhaustion, and a pregnancy drained mummies of their energy. He knew that and he would protect her even from herself if he had too.
"Sweet fairy, you don't have to worry about things like that. I am not going to lock you inside the house or anything. You can come to work as long as you wish to, as long as that does not hurt you and the baby fairy inside of you. We will go today to your doctor and we will follow his advice on all the subjects. But I am warning you if the doc says that you should not work, I might have to tie you to the bed. That way I will be able to have my way with you whenever I want." He teased her, trying to relax her.
"Mmm I like that idea, if you are willing to stay in bed with me all the time."
"That doesn't sound too bad. Nine months with you on a bed. That sounds heavenly."
"Well, I am not sure you will think like this when I start getting fat and my belly will be like it is about to explode."
"You are being silly fairy. You can't imagine how proud it will make me to see your belly grow with my baby inside of you. It is the best gift you could ever give me. You are going to be more beautiful than ever when you are nine months pregnant." He said honestly and she hugged him closely to her.
Half an hour later, her doorbell rang. Swayam was the one to get the door, he did not want her to get tired especially after the day she had.
"Hello Swayam. How is my girlfriend doing? You are depriving me of her company too often. I never get to see her anymore. And you are always here when I come nowadays." Simmi entered the apartment and went straight to the sofa.
"Simmi! Don't be rude to Swayam. After all you are the one that wanted me to be in a relationship and be happy." Sharon pouted.
"Aaah! sweety you know I love you. Does he make you happy?"
"Yes he does." Sharon said and looked lovingly to Swayam that had resumed his position next to Sharon. The sofa was crumbled up by now.
"And you are going to be seeing me a lot more. As of today!" Swayam said happily.
"Why what happened today?"
"Sharon fainted and we had to rush her to the hospital." Swayam said calmly.
"Oh my god what happened? Are you all right sweetheart. Why didn't you call me?" She hit Swayam on the arm.
"I am just fine. You should not scare her like this." Sharon said and took her turn hitting Swayam.
"Hey don't team up against the defenceless male here" Swayam got his hands up in a surrendering posture.
"Ha! Defenceless male, my ass. Now tell me what happened? Did you exhaust yourself from too much work honey? This is your fault Swayam!" Simmi was getting madder by the second.
"Well, it sure is my fault." Swayam said proudly.
"And you are proud of yourself? You have a death wish or something? Because I will be happy to oblige." Simmi was off the sofa now, fuming.
"Relax Simmi. I did not exhaust myself from too much work. It is just that '." Sharon did not know how to tell her. The truth was she felt a little embarrassed to have gotten herself pregnant while she was drunk.
"What?" Simmi yelled
"She is pregnant! I am going to have another fairy!" Swayam said ecstatic.
"You are what?"
"I am pregnant. Remember the night of Kria's party I got drunk and don't remember a thing? Well that was not the only thing forgot that night..."
"You did not use any protection? What are you fifteen?" She was glaring at Swayam now.
"Hey I was a little bit drunk myself. And it is not as if I regret the whole thing. We are going to have a little fairy." Swayam defended himself.
"What is he talking about?" Simmi was once more on the sofa, holding Sharon's hands for support. Sharon laughed and tried to explain.
"Don't mind him. He is just excited that he is going to be a daddy. He is positive that we are going to have a little girl, a little fairy as he calls her."
"Right here is my little sweet fairy!" Swayam added hugging Sharon tightly, placing his hand to her belly and kissing her on the forehead.
"And you are both all right with this?"
"I am still trying to get used to the idea. He is ecstatic. He has already planned our whole future." Sharon said sighing. Simmi turned her head towards Swayam looking for some confirmation.
"I know a good thing when I see it. This girl is just perfect for me. I was not going to let her get away from me. I love her and I want her in my life forever. This baby is an added bonus for me." He said honestly. Simmi contemplated his words for a little while.
"OK but if you hurt her in any way you will have to deal with me, bas***d! The previous one got away with it because Sharon had made me promise I would not hurt him somewhere in the middle of their relationship. I am not making any such promises this time."
"You don't have to worry about me Simmi. We are both on the same team. And if you could just show me that jerk, I haven't made any promises, I can pay him back for hurting my fairy."
"You did not know me at that point of time." Sharon reminded him.
"It doesn't matter! Fairies are to be treated with respect!!!!!!" He said sternly.
"Hmmm! I think I like this one, Shar. Maybe we will keep him." Simmi said half joking half serious.
"Oh! you are trying to send me away." He said challenging and both Sharon and Simmi laughed.
"Fairy, you have to get ready. Our appointment is in an hour." Swayam reminded Sharon.
"What appointment?" Simmi asked.
"We are going to the ob/gyn. He needs to check her and the baby. We want to make sure everything is all right and that her previous operation won't affect the proceeding of this pregnancy." Swayam said eagerly.
"So you are going to accompany her?" Simmi asked.
"Of course I am going to accompany her. What kind of asshole doesn't go to see his baby?"
"Her ex" Simmi replied and Swayam growled.
"Let's leave the past where it belongs, to the past. We have a future to focus on." Sharon tried to calm everyone.
"Good idea, because I might hunt him down and beat him to pulp after all"
"I am going to get ready. Both of you behave please." Sharon went to the bedroom to get dressed. She did not want to admit it to Swayam and Simmi but she was afraid of the welfare of her baby. Little by little the idea sank in, enabling her to love the little creature more and more by the minute.
When she was dressed and ready to go, she had a gut feeling that the doctor would tell them that there was something wrong with the baby, that she would not be able to deliver it safely. She touched her belly lovingly and whispered.
"I will do whatever it takes little fairy"So this it. I hope you all like it and I am sorry I am late but I was really busy with my induction programme training and saree day and all.
