Part 40

It was almost 8 o'clock in the morning and Dilip Khanna was running late for his business meeting. He rushed to his study to pick up his file and saw Angad sitting there. " Angad? What are you doing here?" Angad just sat back on the couch and looked at his father. " I have made a decision Dad." Dilip glanced back at Angad as he still searched for his file. " What kind of decision?"

"I want to get married before I leave Mumbai." Dilip's hands stopped and he looked at his son now. " Are you crazy? You're going to marry Kripa arent you?" Angad got up from the couch and stood in front of his father. " Yes. But why are you surprised? You knew I was going to marry her. We are engaged after all."

" Engaged? yes. But she doesnt even remember you. Is that what you want in life? For your wife to now even know who you are?" Angad nodded his head and turned around. "She remembers me Dad. She remembers me clearly."

" Youre only fooling yourself Angad. I want you to be happy." He turned to face his father again.Happy? My foot! " Dad we both know how much you care about my happiness. I just thought that I should be telling you this. You are my father after all. Even if you have forgotten the duties of a father. I havent forgotten the duties of a son." Angad walked to the door and opened it. " Youre making the biggest mistake of your life Angad." He stopped in his tracks and gave his father a sideways glance. " No Dad. This is the best thing I am doing in my life. The best!" Dilip watched him leave and sighed. What is this boy going to do in life? If he keeps working with emotions, he's going to ruin my business.

Dilip Khanna got into his car after the meeting and rested his head on the back of the seat. When the phone rang, he picked it up. " Hello?"

" How was the meeting Sir?" Dilip sighed and sat back up. " No news yet. They said that they have to consider other tenders too. Do you have any suggestions Suri?"

" Yes Sir. Being your financial head, I think its my responsibility to tell you this. Sir our contract with the Sharma Enterprises ends in one week. But if we extend it to 4 more months, we will be able to bring our company back to where it was."

" 4 more months? ok i'll think about it Suri. I'll talk to you later." He shut his cell phone and threw it on the other side of the seat. " Driver lets go!" Once the car started moving, Dilip looked out the window in his own thoughts. But will Surya give us an extention on the contract? After everything that has happened, we dont even talk to each other anymore. Ab kya karoonga?

The car stopped at a red light and Dilip looked through his files for any other possibilities to get the new contract. Suddenly his mind shifted to what had happened between Angad and him that morning. If Angad marries Kripa then...then I'm sure Surya will have to give me this contract. Dilip smiled to himself and then car started moving again.

Angad sat in his room with his head in his hands when Sim walked in. " Kya hua Angad?" Angad looked up at his sister and smiled. " Nothing Sim. As usual, Dad doesnt want my happiness. But dont worry, I'm not going to wait for is approval."

Sim sighed and sat down beside him. " He refused to get you guys married didnt he?" Angad nodded as he pressed his lips together. " Lekin usse kya hota hai Sim. Main Kripa ko phir khona nahi chahta. I wont lose her again. phir woh shaadi mere Dad ke marzi ke khilaaf hi kyon na ho!!"

" Stop lying to yourself Angad. I know you want your family to approve this. I know you always wanted to live with your family after you got married." Angad rested his head on Sim's shoulder and took a deep breath. " Mere chahne ya na chahne se kya hota hain. I never got what I asked for anyways."

Sim saw his phone ring and grabbed it. Dad. She saw the name flashing on it and handed it to Angad. When he looked at the name himself, he sighed and picked it up. " What now Dad?"

" Angad I wanted to apologize to you for what I said this morning. I know I was wrong. I should have listened to you." Sim looked at Angad's shocked face and asked him what was happening. Angad nodded and then talked to his Dad again. " Why the sudden change of mind Dad?"

" I love you, my son. This is what is going to make you happy. Then this is what you are going to do. You will marry Kripa. You have my approval." Angad nodded. " Thanks Dad. I really appreciate it." He hung up and threw the phone on his bed. " What happened Angad?" He looked at Sim's curious eyes. " He said he doesnt mind me marrying Kripa." Sim smiled and hugged him. " Congratz Angad!!" Angad hugged her back but didnt smile. He knew there must have been something else behind his Dad's intentions.

Kripa walked down to the living room to see her father at the breakfast table. The whole family had been having breakfast together since Kripa had come home. She thought it was really sweet but she didnt know otherwise. If she remembered what her life was like before she had gotten into that accident, she wouldnt be talking to her parents right now.

Kripa sat down at the dining table. Noticing that her mom wasnt there for the first time, Kripa asked her father. " She's in the kitchen. She wanted to make something for you with her own hands." Kripa smiled at the thought. "Dad I wanted to say something to you." Surya glanced at her over his coffee. "What?"

" Dad...Angad and I...i mean we...we want to get married Dad." Surya put his coffee down and looked at Kripa. " I know you dont really like Angad but..."

" Stop Kripa! thats it...who told you that....that I hate Angad?" Kripa looked at her father with hope. " I dont hate him beta. He is the best person for you. Last night when....I felt so guilty for blaming him with this whole incident. He has gone through the same thing you have gone through. You lost yourself and he lost someone who was so special to him."

" So...." Surya looked at his daughter again and folded his arms. " I'll go talk to Dilip today itself. Kripa smiled and ran around the table to her father. She hugged him tightly. " I love you Dad. Youre the best!!" Surya smiled as he heard her say that. But then a fear crept over him. What if she remembers everything? She's going to hate us.

Surya Sharma sat in front of Dilip Khanna at the Khanna Empire. As he had promised his daugter, Surya was there to talk to Dilip about Angad and Kripa's marriage. But Dilip had something else stored in his mind. "Dilip mein yaha tumse...."

"Angad and Kripa ki shaadi ki baath karne aaye ho. right?" Surya looked at Dilip as he finished his sentence for him. Surya nodded his head and started again. " Yes. I want Kripa to be happy. and the only person that can keep her happy is Angad!"

" Ofcourse Surya. Angad can marry Kripa. She is the best girl for him!!!" Surya looked at Dilip's sarcastic face. " If thats what youre thinking, youre wrong Surya!! There is no reason why my son has to marry your daughter. I mean she doesnt even remember his anymore."

"But they love each other." Dilip laughed and sat down on the couch again. " Since when did love become so important to you Surya?" Surya looked down at his hands folded across his chest. "What do you want Dilip?" He knew that there had to be something in Dilip's mind."

" Smart. You are a smart man! Mere bina kuch kahe hi tum samajh gaye? now thats a good businessman!"

"I know. Thats the exact reason why my business is expanding and yours is shutting down. now isnt it?" Dilip felt his ego bruise. He leaned forward to Surya. " Mr. Sharma, owner of Sharma Enterprises. I dont see him today. I see a father standing in front of me, begging for some happiness for his own daughter. Now its your decision. do you want your daughter to be happy?"

" Just tell me Dilip. What -do - you- want?" Dilip nodded his head and stood up by his table. He spinned the paper weight with his fingers and let it spin. I just want an extension on our contract and ten percent of your shares." Surya stood up in shock. Dilip stopped the spinner and turned to look at Surya. " Why are you surprised Surya? Did you think that I would let you get away with this so easily?"

" Your son loves my daughter. Does that mean nothing to you?" Dilip looked at him, keeping his head lower still. He smiled to himself and then straightened his back. " I'm not an emotional fool Mr. Sharma. I'm a businessman. I just know profit, profit, profit! Even if its on the expense of my son's happiness." Surya nodded out of anger. " I should have known Dilip. What can I expect from you anyways!"

Surya picked up his bag and walked towards the door. " Just remember that my offer is still open Mr. Sharma."Surya glanced at Dilip from the corner of his eyes and then stormed out.

Kripa's father sat in his car and rubbed his face with his hands. What was he going to tell his daughter now? When the phone rang and Kripa's name flashed in front of him, he sighed and then picked it up. Before he could say anything, he heard Kripa's voice on the other side. "Dad what did uncle say? he agreed right?" Surya didnt know how to answer her. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. " Yes, beta. He agreed." Kripa smiled. " I love you Dad. oK i need to call Angad. bye" He heard the call end and he put his phone on his lap. What am I supposed to do now? If I do what a father needs to do, I lose as a businessman. If I do what a businessman should, I lose as a father. But he knew what to do. Being a father was much more important at this time that being a businessman was. He picked up his phone again and dialed Dilip Khanna's number. " Dilip, I am willing to accept your offer."

Dilip smiled in an evil way and replied back. " Good. It will be nice doing business with you Mr. Sharma!" Now I will see how the Khanna Empire will shut down! His eyebrow raised and his smirk got wider.
