"What I owe you..yehi kehne ki kosish kar rahehe aap? Sharam varam hain nahi kya apko? Do you really think just because you happened to step in for god-knows what reason, I'd be grateful enough to have an affair with a married man? Or barring that ... you even? Chi!"
"Dekhiye Khushiji...humari hakh..."
"Hakh?" She cut in, yet again, " Ohh...toh phir, according to your logic, hum par hakh sirf ek hi insaan ka hain. Arnavji ki."

Once again Arnav found himself shell shocked, at the terrace door.
Almost unable to believe that this was happening.
"Hakh?" She'd cut in, yet again, " Ohh'toh phir, according to your logic, hum par hakh sirf ek hi insaan ka hain. Arnavji ki."
And yet it was.
And while a part of him wanted to rush to Khushi's rescue and sweep her away from Shyams filthy sight, another part of him urged him to wait.
This was her moment, this was her breaking free.
And as much as he needed to be her savior, she needed to just a little bit more to step out of the pool of fear, she must have been treading lately. And he was more than happy to wait for her in the shadows, waiting to step in, just in case.

Khushi watched, observantly as the blaze of zealous craze flashed over Shyam's countenance. Glad that her words had hit their mark.
She had hoped that they would.
And then much to her surprise, the look of disgruntled rage that had overtaken his visage, dropped an he began laughing, a short cough at first but then as she stood rooted, into rolls of uncontrollable, hysterical laughter.
"Khushiji? Aapko ka lagta hain Arnav Singh Raizada aapke bare mein sochta bhi hain?"
(Khushiji, do you really think Arnav Singh Raizada even thinks about you?)
Khushi felt herself stiffen, despite her logical mind screaming at her that he was saying what he was saying out of spite and as an attempt to manipulate her, to scare her.
Nevertheless.
He was Arnav Singh Raizada, why would he care about her?
For a split-second she questioned herself.
Wondering if she should have said what she just said, the feelings were still so raw, and she still had no idea, how Arnav felt...if he felt anything at all or if she was just making assumptions.
Digging her nails into the soft skin of her fist, she struggled nearly visibly to maintain her composure.
But like the shadow of doubt that refused to be shaken, she couldn't help but wonder, what if?
Should she even be thinking about him in that specific way, she could already imagine the aukad lectures he'd be only too happy to blast her with.
But even as the cold hand of doubt wound itself around her heart, she couldn't help know in her own enigmatic way that ' none of that mattered.
She didn't need his permission to love him.
And as cruel a blow as it maybe to her pride, it didn't even matter if he loved her back.
It didn't matter.
All that mattered was how that she felt it.
Wrong or right.
It was there.
And for her that was enough.
Her hair floating wildly around her as she carefully looked back up at this man who had been using his calculated wording to intimidate her, and smiled, this time an actual, pure smile '
"So?" she asked, her smile widening all the more as she saw her nonchalance set him off-guard.
"Do you really believe," she continued, with a soft dazed smile, "That it matters whether not he cares?
What I said was that I did, and that is what you were trying to explain to me all this time wasn't it, how it didn't matter that you are married to a wonderful woman who is unfortunately idiotic enough to love a low-life like you, all that matters is that you 'love' me?
Well... all that matters is that I love him. And as for the hakh ki sawal, he's come to my rescue at least ten times more than you have, but unlike you, he has the good grace not to assume that makes me beholden to him.
Unlike you he is a gentleman...well unlike you he's also human no matter how much he tries to hide it.
Isn't it ironic?
How you pretend to be human and he pretends not to be. Further proof, i suppose, of how you'll never be so much as an inch of what he is."
"Khushiji aap zayada kar rahehe'" he hissed.
But somehow as if in finally giving voice to all the secret words she'd held inside her had freed her in a way, even his threatening step forward failed to scare her.
Instead she shook her head with amused dismay, side-stepping him, so that he no longer blocked her path to the doorway, and with sure steps, began to walk away for the first time in a very long time with her head held high.
And with each step, his demented screeches of how he would destroy her and her family, she felt a security and a lightness that she hadn't felt since a fateful day in Lucknow a very long time ago.
He couldn't touch her anymore, she thought with a silent sense of serenity.
But it seemed even if only in her mind, she had spoken too soon.
For, no sooner had that thought crossed her mind, and she set foot into the doorway, that she felt a bruising grip on her upper right hand, swing her around to face a bone-chillingly furious wrath.
