Chapter Twenty-Two
It was Diwali!! Mayank and Nupur's first diwali together. Nupur got ready early in the morning. She was dressed up in an orange lehenga. Guests kept on coming to the house, but Mayank was seen nowhere. She called him up, but no one attended his phone. She was worried but didn't tell anyone; nor her father-in-law neither her mother-in law.
After intervals of minutes, she kept on trying his phone which kept unreachable, much to her anger and concern.
Finally, he picked up his phone and very much expected, she started bursting on him.
Mayank: Hello.
Nupur: Hello. Fursat mil gayi phone uthane ki?
Mayank: Nupur wo..
Nupur: Han han.. ab kyun biwi yaad rahe gi, 1 ghante se tumhe call pe call kare jaa rahi hoon.
Mayank: Nupur.. main ghar pohonch raha hoon 5 minute mein. Relax!
*disconnects*
Nupur to herself: Diwali ke din toh ghar rukta. Huh!
Finally, in the next 5 minutes, Mayank was at home.
She was sitting in her room alone and tired of his behavior. It was their first diwali and he came back at 8pm. She was exhausted.
He came in the room and she turned her back towards him in anger while looking at the mirror.
Mayank knew she was angry. He slowly went behind her and hugged her.
Mayank: Hamari pehli diwali mubarak ho Nupur.
He whispered in her ears.
She gave a tough look in response.
Mayank then went back and opened his brief case and took out a necklace box. She looked back and wondered what that was.
He opened it up and brought it to Nupur. He removed the necklace from the box and put it on Nupur's neck.
She gave a look to it and found it really beautiful. She, with her mesmerized eyes looked back at him and he smiled in response.
Mayank: Issi liye busy tha.
She felt so sorry for being angry on him without even asking the reason of him being late.
Mayank: Kaisa hai?
Nupur: Bohot acha..
She cupped his face.
Nupur: Oh my God. Leikin Mayank maine toh tumhare liye koi diwali gift hi nahi khareeda.
Mayank: Kya matlab? Kal hi toh diya.
Nupur wondered what she gave to him yesterday. Looking her confused eyes he smiled and bent on his knees. He brings his face near her stomach and kissed it.
Mayank: De toh diya.. mera junior version.
He winked at her.
Nupur creased her hands through his hair.
Mayank then stood up,
Mayank: Bas aaj yahin kamre mein rehna hai kya? Patakhe nahi jalane?
Nupur: Han. Chalo.
She held his hand and they both went to the terrace.
It was so much fun, after bursting the crackers, holding one sparkler with eachother. They went back in their room.
---
It had been a total of nine months since she was carrying the junior. Finally the most special day had come. Nupur was rushed to the hospital.
Mayank was walking from here to there in front of the delivery room hearing Nupur screaming he tightened his fist against his hand and rubbed them together in nervousness.
He kept on praying that everything would be good, finally after sometime Nupur stopped screaming and he heard the loveliest voice crying inside, it was his child's voice. He could not control and got teary because of uncontrollable happiness.
The nurse came out and informed Mayank that Nupur delivered a baby boy. He asked the nurse whether he could go inside, she allowed him.
He rushed inside the room, where he saw Nupur lying, and by her side, he saw the little Mayank lying in a baby cod.
He rushed to the baby, held him in his hands. It was the best feeling of becoming a father. He kissed his baby a million times and still didn't find it enough, he was a dad now, and he was so happy for that. And then, took him to Nupur.
With his excitement on fever pitch, he told her "Nupur!! See.. hamara baby. OMG!"
While standing by her, he handed her the baby and then went behind her back. Nupur kissed her baby. The feeling was heavenly, he was their son, someone who would now complete their lives, call them mom and dad, will make them smile by his little cute mischievousness. She kissed the baby and her tear of happiness was left on the baby's cheek. She kissed her baby.
Nupur: Hum iska naam kya rakhein ge Mayank?
She smiled while looking at her baby.
Mayank: Rahul.
Nupur: Rahul?
Mayank: Han, Rahul.
He said while pulling his child's cheek.
Mayank: Kya hua? Naam acha hai na?
Nupur: Bohot acha hai. Rahul Mayank Malhotra.
She said while looking back at him.
He smiled seeing her and kissed her cheeks.
Nupur and the baby were discharged from the hospital.
They brought the baby home for the first time. It was an awesome feeling.
2 months later.
It was past 2 in the night. Mayank opened his eyes and saw Nupur still awake while Rahul in her hands.
Mayank: Nupur.. Rahul so gaya hai. Tum bhi so jao ab.
He smiled.
Nupur: Nahi Mayank.. kabhi bhi uth sakta hai na.
Mayank: Acha?
Nupur: Han.
Mayank: Toh lao.. mujhe do isse aur tum so jao.
He said while resting his back on the bedstead. He moved his hands forward and asked Nupur to hand him Rahul.
Nupur: Mayank.. tumhe subah office bhi jana hai. Tum kaise poori raat jago ge?
Mayank: Jaag loon ga. Tum aajkal roz late soti ho, aur theek se so bhi nahi paati ho. Din mein bhi nahi.
Nupur: Toh kya hua? Mayank.. tum so jao na.. kal subah ke 7 baje uthna hai tumhe.
Mayank: Nupur, Rahul ko mujhe do aur so jao samjhi?
He glared at her.
Nupur: Leikin..
Mayank: Tumhe mujhpe zara bhi vishwas nahi hai? Nupur main iska dad hoon, aur iska khayal rakh sakta hoon, haina Rahul?
He looked at Rahul and smiled, and then took Rahul in his hands and put him against his chest to make him sleep. And strictly told Nupur to lay down on the bed and go to sleep. While she was about to say something, he finger on her lips.
She looked at Mayank's adorable way of making Rahul asleep while shaking himself frequently a little so that he doesn't wake up.
Nupur slowly closed her eyes and slept.
The next morning, she woke up, and found Mayank and Rahul sleeping. Rahul was lying in Mayank's lap and Mayank had wrapped him in his hands tightly eventhough he was sleeping.
She smiled at him and kissed his forehead and then kissed Rahul. It wasn't the first time she realized that he was the most perfect husband/father.
