Baby Baby….HaanKiNaa
Maan felt she was riling him on purpose. She knew how to rub him the wrong way. He was seething in frustration and longing, wanting her to speak out what her eyes already promised. He went downstairs in no better frame of mind than when Geet had suddenly fled. He was determined to have her say it, he needed to hear her say those words. He needed to know that he was not wrong, that he had not made a mistake reading her eyes, once again.
He had not let passion rule over him, kept himself in control so that he could hear her say whether her admiration for him was limited to him being her saviour. He wanted to know if her statement that "he was the most important person in the world for her today" meant exactly what he thought or was it an aberration that was not real in the light of the day.
Just as he was going to whisk her away, Daadima informed that she was organizing a party announcing their engagement. Maan's temper knew no bounds and he stormed out of the house and Geet ran behind him asking him to wait up.
"Aap..suniye…" Geet starts and Maan stops right outside the house and turns to look at her with smoldering eyes and says, "Meine kaha na, mujhe tumse koi baat nahi karni jab tak tum woh nahi keh deti jo mein sunna chahta hoon"
"Yaahan….abhi…aap…" Geet again interrupts but Maan holds his hand up and gives her a look that shuts her up mid-sentence and says, " Haan ya naa mein jawab do Geet, mein aur kuch nahin sunna chahta" and walks away.
"Ye lo…phir shuru ho gaye…ab ye haan ya naa mein kaise koi kahe ki…" Geet rants to herself but blushes as she thinks of her feelings for Maan surface.
Maan goes to the office and Geet reaches and goes to his cabin with some files and informs "Ye Rawal waale food processing ke project ki files hain, aapne Pinky se kaha tha aapko chahiye"
Maan looks at her with eyes that devoured her but his jaw was working and he silently picked up the phone dialed a number still looking at Geet and said in the mouth piece, "Pinky meine tumse kaha than na ki file le aana, mujhe haan ya na se pehle kuch nahi sunna" and puts the phone down.
"Maan, aap suniye toh…mein wohi kehne aayee hoon jo aap sunna chahte hain" Geet started and paused. Maan looked at her questioningly and tilted his head to prompt her to speak but when Geet did not utter a word, he pushed his chair back and stomped up to her to stand in front of her and growled, "Geet, mein sunn raha hoon"
"Aise nahi…" Geet halted and then Maan pulled her to him and asked, "Toh kaise Geet, Kaise tum bologi, kab bologi…" Maan's voice dipped a few notches heavy with emotions that threatened to overwhelm him but he let her go and said, "tum kuch mat kaho…chorro..tum kuch nahin keh paaogi… Geet…tumhein sirf sahare ki zarrorat hai meri nahi…." And walks out of the office.
Geet felt stunned, she was being misunderstood because of her inability to speak out her feelings, to verbalise what her heart spoke to him that night. She had shown her reaction to his touches, how she had melted like an icicle in front of the fire. She had been in no position to stop herself from submitting to him, to be one with him. She knew he read her eyes, her heart but how does one say that one lives and breathes him. How does one say that every morning starts with his thought and every night ends with his dream? How could words describe what she felt for him? Will saying he means the world to her help? What does one say? Should she do it like the movies? No too filmy! What if he gets mad?
Geet walked to her cabin and then thought of leaving clues to let him know what she felt for him. She had already given him flowers, should she get him a gift? What would he like?
Geet went into the conference room and placed a box in front of him and waited for him till he looked up at her and said, "hmmm!" looking at her quizzically.
Geet signaled him to open the box and in there were handkerchives similar to ones he had given her several times and he frowned, "Kya?" still not talking more than in monosyllables.
"yehi jo mein kehna chahti hoon…" Geet explained and Maan asked, "Tum kya kehna chahti ho?"
"Wahi jo aap sunna chahte hain!" Geet tried again,
"Aur mein kya sunna chahta hoon? Geet pehliyan mat bujhao…. Mere paas faltoo time nahi hai… jo kehna hai saaf saaf kaho…Haan ya na.." Maan stubbornly replied not giving her room to back out.
Geet looked exasperated and made a sulky face to show her displeasure at being troubled like this. She said, "Mein aapke liye le aaye…for giving me so many handkerchieves everytime I cried…"
"Hmmm…theek hai…" Maan nonchalantly answered and got back to his files.
Geet picked up the files from his desk and roared, "aapko ko sunna nahi hai to theek hai…mein jaati hoon.." and turned to leave when Maan caught her wrist and pulled her towards him so that she was sprawled across his lap.
"Bolo Geet, Haan ya na…bas..ek shabd…aur kuch nahi…baaki sab mujhpe chorr do…" Maan cajoles her softly brushing her errant strand behind her ear, looking into her eyes with passion. Geet loses herself in his eyes and starts muttering, " woh…mein.."
"Geet…." He grunted but they were interrupted with a knock on the door and Adi entered with some files just as Geet straightened.
Adi talked to Maan about some work detail as Geet waited for him to finish and leave. Maan looked at Geet as Adi spoke and he mouthed "Haan ki Naa"
Adi then asked something to Maan and Maan replied, "HaanKiNaa"
"haankinaa?" Adi repeated, "Kya Sir?" Maan looked a bit sheepish and looked at Geet who interrupted and improvised, "Woh, Manali mein sab bolte hain jab aap kissi ko achcha hai kehna chahte ho…haankina.."
Adi pushed his glasses up as if in understanding and then left after gathering the files. Maan stalked up to Geet holding her shoulders and bellowed, "Ye kya tha Geet? Tum kuch bhi bolti ho….jo kehna hai bas wahi nahi keh sakti…."
Geet tried to wiggle out of his hold and muttered under her breath, "Pehle bachchao aur phir daant khao…jaaiye…mujhe kuch nahi kehna…" and pulled herself out of his hold and went out.
Maan banged his hand in frustration and yet he could not stop himself from smiling at the girl's ingeniousness at getting out of a tricky situation. She did whole lot of things, but she could not tell him what he needed to hear. He was almost at his wit's end trying to get this girl to say those precious words that would tell him what she felt for him, if what tied them together was beyond fate, if what they had between them was more than attraction, if what bound them together was their mutual need. He needed her to say that he was the one for her. He had felt hurt at her words proclaiming their relationship to be nothing more than a charade.
It was their engagement party day and Maan till then had stayed away from Geet, letting her know with his silent treatment that till she confessed her feelings he was not in any mood to indulge her. He pushed every button that he knew would make her speak but she stubbornly refused to give in. He had made up his mind to make her come to him.
Geet had seen him behave like a grouch for last three days pushing her almost over the brink. It was either Nakul or Daadima or one of the staff who came at an opportune moment that stopped her from blurting out words that seemed stuck in her throat.
Geet had worn the sari that Daadima and she had shopped together especially for the engagement. It was a Pink with silver embroidery all over the saari that sparkled with each step she took. Daadima had given her the khandaani diamond necklace with dangling earrings and bracelet and bangles to go with it.
Maan had bought her a watch that had diamante around the dial and today she wore it for him. She remembered how he had given it to her. He had come to the outhouse and given her a box and she had looked stunned. He handed it to her and almost turned back to leave when she had stopped him from leaving. Maan had looked at her with some emotion that was not defeat but it had made her feel guilty for not having said the words to him that he wanted to hear.
She had said, "Thank you… Maan..aapko ye sab karne ki koi zarrorat nahi hai…"
Maan just uttered one word, "Hai…" and had gone away.
Geet touched the watch and promised herself that before the party began she would tell him "yes, Yes she loved him, a thousand times over… yes she loved him forever and beyond…yes she wanted him… yes she needed him as he needed her…yes she was his..his alone…"
Geet went looking for him in the main house before the guests started arriving but he was not in the bedroom. She went to the gym but he was not there either. She went to the courtyard where the jhula was and found him standing near the window staring out.
She stood there for a moment drinking in his suit clad form still except for the fist that he kept clenching and unclenching. She walked stealthily behind him and without making a sound, she slid her arms around his waist and put the side of her head against his back and said, "Haan…" and waited….
Maan had felt stunned as the suddenness of two hands creeping up on his sides and then realized it was Geet. He had stilled completely holding his breath and then he had heard it…he had heard her say…the very word that could kill him for the joy that coursed through his body, his heart, his soul. He trapped her hands by putting his on them and turned his head sideways and whispered, "Geet…Phir se bolo…"
"Haan…Haan…haan… jitni baar..poochoge..utni baar Haan…jitni baar mein nahi keh saki..unn sab ke liye Haan…..Haan…" Geet murmured passionately, her voice catching.
Maan then turned towards her and chanted, "Geet…Geet…" and gathered her in his arms and hugged her tight. Maan let her go and then looked at her from head to toe dressed in a sari and he knew there was nothing more beautiful than this sight in front of him. He also noted the watch and knew that she had bidded his hint of passing time and let it not slip by but told him. He needed to know that this engagement was a real one, that he could claim her as his in front of everyone.
Maan asked Geet softly, "Keh do na…Geet… Ek baar…Keh do..ki tum meri ho sirf meri…"
Geet still shy but summed up enough courage to say, "Meein aapki hoon Maan, sirf aapki… Maan ki Geet,"
Baby, Baby - Amy Grant
Baby, baby, I'm taken with the notion
To love you with the sweetest of devotion
Baby, baby, my tender love will flow from
The bluest sky to the deepest ocean
Stop for a minute
Baby, I'm so glad you're mine, yeah
You're mine
Baby, baby, the stars are shinin' for you
And just like me, I'm sure that they adore you
Baby, baby, go walkin' through the forest
The birds above a-singin' you a chorus
Stop for a minute
Baby, they're so glad you're mine, oh yeah
And ever since the day
You put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize that there's
Just no getting over you
Baby, baby, in any kind of weather
I'm here for you always and forever
Baby, baby, no muscle man could sever
My love for you is true and it will never
Stop for a minute
Baby, I'm so glad you're mine
And ever since the day
You put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize
There's no getting over you
And ever since the day
You put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize that there's
Just no getting over you
Over you
Baby, baby, always and forever
Baby, I'm so glad
Here for you, baby
I'm so glad you're mine
Baby, I'm so glad
When I think about you, it makes me smile
Baby, baby, be mine
Baby, I'm so glad
Don't stop giving love
Don't stop, no
Baby, I'm so glad that you're mine
Baby, I'm so glad
