Part 11Kalpi woke up early in the morning and went downstairs. She was surprised to find a not on the fridge.
"Gone for a morning walk. Sorry, you'll have to prepare breakfast by yourself
Preeti"
"As if she helps a lot on the other days" Kalpi shook her head at her friend's antics. However, she was boggled. It was 6 in the morning, and Preeti had never been an early bird. Nor was she health conscious. She wondered if something was up, whether she was upset about something and hiding it from her.
Preoccupied, she opened the cupboard to start making breakfast. But as soon as she opened it, petals fell on her head. She was swayed by the momentary dream like effect, but soon regained her senses. Roses and marigolds, she noticed shocked. But those were her and Raghav's favourite flowers!
She rushed up the stairs to the source of the petals, to fin two baskets, one upturned and the source of the petals, and the other containing more petals, and a note hidden below them.
Whatever was written in that note gave her a feeling recognition, as if it was from Raghav... but it couldn't be, could it? Why and how will he do this? It's impossible... firstly he hates her, she thought sadly, plus he doesn't have any idea where she is, let alone him coming to her house.
'Stop it Kalpi! He doesn't give a damn about you! He hates you! Don't even think of dreaming about him, he'll just break your heart again!'
Thinking about it, Kalpi couldn't control herself anymore. She broke down into tears and kept crying for a long time.
Unknown to her, Raghav silently witnessed everything, hidden beside a window. She suddenly felt his presence and turned, but Raghav had already run away beyond her sight.
That day's events had different effects on Raghav and Kalpi. Raghav lost most of his confidence and again questioned whether he would ever be able to make up for it. In the end he decided to give another try.
Kalpi, on the other hand, became even more sure that Raghav had come there and was internally happy. But she still had her doubts. Raghav had, after all, schemed so much against her, hated her so much, so it was quite unlikely that he would regret his act, let alone come back to her.
A few days later, it was the day for another surprise for Kalpi.
That day, Kalpi woke up hearing Preeti's screams. She went downstairs to find Preeti shrinking away in a corner, trying to run from some invisible monster.
"What is it? What happened?"
"S-sp-spider! Spider!"
Kalpi sighed and looked at the tabletop. There was a small black spider climbing on it. It sent her down her memory lane, back in their childhood when they used to play with such spiders...
"What are you smiling at? Just kill it! Throw it away! Do anything, just get it away from me!"
Kalpi picked it up and threw it out of the window, giggling.
"You're such a baby! I used to play with such spiders when I was five!"
Preeti just stuck her tongue out at her, but Kalpi was hardly seeing. "You know, I and Raghav used to get these spiders to bite us, so that we could become spider-man and spider-woman. We didn't understand any nonsense about radioactivity, so just spider bite was enough..."
Preeti interjected, "Yes, Yes, of all yucky things... by the way, who's this Raghav? Someone special, is he?"
Kalpi froze. So far she'd never never mentioned Raghav in front of Preeti, but today...
She quietly answered, "No... it's-it's nothing like that. He's just an old friend..."
"So? Isn't childhood friendship special?" Preeti said with a mischievous smile. "Anyways I'm going out for a while... got to get that spider off my head..." It was Kalpi's turn to giggle.
As soon as Preeti left, Kalpi's smile disappeared. "What is happening to me? How can I be careless enough to talk about Raghav in front of Preeti?" She wondered aloud as she went towards her room. As she sat on the bed, she was surprised to see a piece of paper sticking out from under her pillow. She reached out with a feeling of deja vu and already knew what it was before she read it - a diary page.
It was the same diary entry which Raghav had written years ago, describing their spider-man - spider-woman plan. Just the writing was different, more mature now, but of the same person.
"Was it Raghav... But he hates writing... and now me too... but its his writing... how can it be... I don't understand..."
She kept wondering, and hugged the sheet to herself subconsciously. She suudenly came back to her senses and went outside. But before leaving, she tucked the sheet safely in a book and kept it in her bedside cabinet.
Raghav saw all this and smiled a bit.
