Pyaar hai!
Shravan and Suman sat there for a while, lost in each other, when a shrill noise broke them out of their bubble.
"Sumo, tumhara phone."
"Ha-Haan? Oh haan... Hello, ji Nanu, haan, ji, ji aa rahi hoon."
"Kya hua? Sab theek toh hai?"
"Haan, hume chalna chahiye, ghar pe sab wait kar rahe hai."
Shravan paid for the coffees, Sumo didn't oppose. He for one took it as a matter of pride. First she didn't pull away her hand and then she let me pay. Shravan Malhotra, you're in luck.
"Chalo, kya khade khade soch rahe ho?"
"Kahan?"
"Chaand pe, chaloge?"
"Huh?"
"Duffer, tumhe ghar chod deti hoon, lekar bhi mai hi aayi thi na! Pata nahi lawyer kaise ban gaye" Rolling her eyes.
"Haan haan theek hai"
Shravan sat in the car and they set off to their destination. Sumo put on the radio, given that it was raining pretty bad, all radio stations were playing monsoon music. "Baahon ke darmiyaan, do pyaar mil rahe hai..." Shravan smiled mischievously while Sumo changed the station.
"Tip tip barsa paani, paani mai aag lagai"
By now Shravan was in splits and Sumo shot daggers through her eyes.
Yeh radio waale bhi naa! Hmph! , she told.
Shravan giggled at her puffy face. Thank god some of the Sumo was still left!
As they turned round the next corner, the car stopped with a jolt.
Chuk chuk chuk!
Sumo tried to start it but in vain.
She banged her hand on the steering wheel.
Shit, she mumbled.
Shravan rolled his eyes at that. Her frantic clutch was its own master and decided to break down anytime it wanted.
Lightning struck fiercely as Sumo wondered what to do next. She was sweating due to the closed car and also because it was time for her medicine.
Her claustrophobia plus overdue of her dose was sickening her.
She mindlessly opened the door and stepped out, only to meet with a thundering splash which drenched her every inch.
"Sumo!", shouted Shravan. He was annoyed at her antics. He stepped out without a second thought.
He saw water droplets kissing her face. How he wished that he was the droplet on her red lower lip! She turned to him and saw him staring at her without blinking. There was no one on the street except them.
He cupped her face and placed a kiss on her forehead. Her body burnt in the cool weather. He pulled her by the waist and sucked the water droplets on her face. She shivered against his touch and encircled her arms around his neck. Unable to take it any more, Sumo buried her head in his chest and listened to his heartbeat. He hugged her tightly.
They stood still for a while, relishing each n every second. The broke apart and Shravan leaned forward towards her rosy, trembling lips. She closed her eyes, giving into him. Their lips were about to meet when Shravan realised what he was going to do and broke apart.
He walked away from there, all drenched. Sumo stood there for a while, unable to digest all that had happened a few seconds back. She blushed hard and thanked God for giving her a lovely bliss in the form of rain.
Shravan was flabbergasted. Did he do what he did and was he trying to do what he was going to do! He ran his hand through his drenched mane. He had to set this right. He walked back to Sumo, and brought her to look at him.
"Sumo, mai .. woh.. mujhe.. mai keh raha tha.. actually Sumo, mai"
"Tum mujhse pyaar karte ho, yehi na!"
It was as if Shravan was struck by lightening. How did she know?
"Tum, Tumhe kaise pata?"
"Tumhari yeh aankhe, sab bol deti hai mujhe. Aur yeh jo sab tum kar rahe the mere liye itne dino se, kya tha agar pyaar nahi? Zindagi bhar mera saath mazoor tha.. ab bhi hai?"
Shravan nodded in the negative. "Nahi, tum mujhe na bol rahe ho Shravan?"
"Nahi, mera matlab haan, haan, zindagi bhar saath rahoonga sumo." He looked on with vulnerable eyes.
"Toh pyaar karte ho?"
"Agar tumhare dard mai mujhe dard hona pyaar hai, toh hai.
Agar tumhare bina saans na aana pyaar hai, toh hai.
Agar tumhare bina na jee pana pyaar hai, toh hai.
Bohot pyaar hai Sumo. I love you!"
Suman barely was able to bridge the distance between them and hug him tight! She mumbled in his chest, "Itni der laga di bolne mai"
"Ab kya karoon, inn baaton mai gadha hoon na"
"So toh ho, par mere ho"
"Hmmm"
They stood there, in each others arms. Drenched in rain some would say, but the were instead drenched in love!
