Chapter 6
Uday looked at Manyata's face as she lay unconscious on the passenger
seat of his car while he was driving.
What has she been doing in London ? Why didn't I think about this before
…? How come did she shift from Mumbai to London and is she …. Alone ?
He felt his breath hitch as he saw her gaining consciousness.
Manyata slowly opened her eyes only to be captured by another pair of
intense eyes. Both stared into each other's eyes for a long time trying to
search for something. Manyata looked away not able to bear his intense
gaze.
Though Uday had confessed his love she still felt uneasiness with him. As
though he would harm her … as though he is not her Uday …
She chuckled at her thoughts trying to unease the tension in her.
Manyata, you are behaving silly. Why would he hurt you ? And of course
he has not been zapped somewhere …
Though she tried every way to relax her nerves, she failed desperately.
Both didn't say anything as though they found some solace in the silence.
Each other who they seek,
With silent words they speak !
After a long time, Uday said, "Princess, when did you shift to London?"
Manyata was shocked. Though she knew he would ask this sooner or later,
she was still not ready for it. Her heart said to tell him the truth while her
brain disagreed and she finally listened to her brain.
Uday clicked his fingers in front of her bringing her out of his trance. She
looked at him and realized that he has been waiting for an answer.
"Umm … nothing much. I just shifted to London for a change."
Uday looked at her with raised eyebrows and she knew that he was not
buying it but still she didn't say anything instead looked away. Uday let the
matter drop though he was curious to know the reason.
Manyata suddenly realized something and asked him, "Uday, where are we
going ?"
She felt her nerves panicking.
"Princess, we are going to a restaurant because I know you must be
hungry as you haven't had dinner."
Manyata looked at him while he stared back. Both had numerous questions
but maybe they themselves didn't want the answers …..
Uday opened the passenger door and forwarded his hand to Manyata. She
nervously kept her hand in his while he smiled back at her.
Both walked inside the almost empty restaurant and sat down at a secluded corner.
The waiter walked up to take their order.
"Mushroom ravioli" Both said in unison while the waiter smiled a knowing
smile and walked away leaving behind a flustered Uday and Manyata.
As the food came, they silently ate while stealing glances at one another.
Uday was about to ask something when Manyata's phone rang and she
looked at the caller ID and paled. Though Uday notice the change in her,
he kept quite. She picked up the phone. After a brief chat of which all that
Uday could gather was a bunch of whispers, she kept the phone.
Uday was about to ask her something when she interrupted, "Uday I am
sorry but I have to leave."
Uday was fuming inside but remained calm on the outside and said, "It's ok
I will drop you."
"No .. No I will take a cab." Manyata fumbled with her words.
"Manyata, I said I will drop you." His voice oozed out authority and she
dared not argue further.
They both walked out and sat in the car and drove away.
In the car, Manyata fell into deep thought.
In between all these ups and downs of my life, I can't ignore Maan. It is
unfair. I will sort out my life and Uday later but why should he suffer ?
The sudden jerk at the car stopping, brought her back to the present. She
looked out of the window to see that they had reached Rohan's house.
Rohan was to go back for his practice and so he wouldn't be here and
anyways she couldn't go to her apartment because oldie must be waiting
for. And there would be only Maan in the house and ….
Oh no ! Maan is here and Uday … God what am I to do ? Didn't you find
anyone else to burden with problems ?
She stepped out of the car hoping that Uday would drop the courtesy to
come and leave her at the doorstep. She had enough for a day and
couldn't stand anything else. And she wasn't sure to how Uday would react
to Maan.
But all her efforts went in vain as she heard a voice from behind.
"Princess, wait I will drop you at the doorstep."
She turned back and gave him nervous smile and waited till he joined her.
Both walked till the gate of the house.
Manyata stopped outside and smiled at Uday and said, "Goodnight !"
Hoping that he would get the signal to leave but luck wasn't on her side.
"Princess, come on ! You wouldn't invite me into your house ?"
"Oh I am sorry. I forgot …" Manyata cursed her luck and took out the spare
key. Opening the door, she hoped that Maan would be asleep by now.
She hadn't taken a step into the house and switched on the lights when a
small figure jumped up and hugged her tight.
"Mommy !"
