I never refer to God as "him" or "her". I find it way too mundane (note as common; ordinary; banal; unimaginative) to use for something I revere as a force beyond normal. Somehow, it just doesn't seem right comparing it in any way to a human being. Those who believe would surely know the kind of feeling what I am talking of.

People who do, well each religion has it's own view/views. I don't think people really chose in the first place. They just followed.

Also, I never thought, nor do I believe, that God created religion, so I can't see how the two are related really. For me, it's always been THE God. I couldn't care less whether you're an Arab, a Punjabi or a Nazi.

Most of the Avatars of Vishnu were also all men.
Maybe he prefers to come down to earth as males.

But Vishnu's consort is Lakshmiji, and whenever she incarnated herself on Earth as his wife/consort, she came as a woman (ie....Sita, Radha, Rukmini, Satyabhama, etc). In fact Vishnuji and Lakshmiji are also only one, all the forms of Hindu Gods are one God only, with no male/female form. All these different forms with gender were created so that humans would understand the nature of God easier and find the path to liberation.

yes Divinity has a purpose in coming down to earth in many forms and sometimes God takes on more than one role .
Even at the time of Rama, Parashurama, another incarnation of Vishu, was still alive.
These days there are still several saints and Gurus in India and the Himalayas.

These dudes never die and are all still around and all ready to appear before us anytime.😆
I read that during the time of Rama and Krishna, people were very much taller compared to us.
Even Hanuman was still around when Rama reincarnated as Krishna.

I wonder why the Gods stopped incarnating now while they were plentiful earlier
