South Africa have notched up an imposing total in front of the Ahmedabad crowd after Canada won the toss and opted to bowl. As expected, the Proteas came out all guns blazing. Quinton de Kock was dropped in the powerplay and it proved costly as South Africa raced to 66 runs inside the first six overs. After de Kock’s dismissal, Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram stitched together a solid partnership to keep the momentum going. Markram brought up a well-compiled fifty, while Rickelton chipped in with 33 before being caught at long-on. Canada fought back in the middle overs, picking up a few timely wickets and applying the brakes on the scoring rate. Ansh Patel was the standout performer, claiming a three-wicket haul that played a key role in preventing South Africa from completely running away with the innings, especially around the 14-over mark when they looked set for a 225-plus total. Nevertheless, South Africa will be more than satisfied with the total they’ve posted, courtesy that partnership of 75*(37) between Miller and Stubbs at the end. With a strong and well-rounded bowling attack at their disposal, the Proteas will back themselves to defend it comfortably.
