India vs Zimbabwe 2nd T20 India tour of Zimbabwe, 2024 on 7th July at Harare, Zimbabwe
Shubman Gill's India were handed a reality check by Sikandar Raza's Zimbabwe in the opening T20I of the 5-match series on Saturday, 6 July. India failed to chase down 116 runs in Harare, and were bundled out for their lowest T20I score in the last 8 years. Star players who have already made a name in the Indian Premier League miserably failed in the sticky track in Harare as India got bundled out for just 102 runs in 19.5 overs.
India captain Shubman Gill said that the team looked rusty and asked his batters to step up in the next game. The India side will do well to keep their ego and methods aside as the Harare track is not the one where they will get to make 200+ runs every day. The team will look to shake the defeat off and get into their zone quickly as they face Zimbabwe once again on Sunday, 7 July.
The batters including debutants Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma and Dhruv Jurel will hope to assess the situation quickly as India cannot let another game slip against a team that was not able to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024. Zimbabwe were beaten by Uganda in the African qualifiers and had to sit out this year's competition despite being a legacy team in the history of African cricket.
India are likely to field an unchanged XI as interim coach VVS Laxman would hope that it was just one bad day at the office for the batters. There are several players in this team who are expected to take over the mantle from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, and they will need to prove their worth on Sunday, when India face the wily Zimbabwean team once again.
