Part 1

Amarendra was lying on the bench in the royal kitchen of Kunthalam. He thought of the first time he met Yuvarani Devasena.
She was sitting demurely inside a palanquin and her people were standing around. The way she sat with her arms around her knees, he saw her through a screen that kept her away from his eyes. Never once he has cursed anything in his life like he cursed that screen that moment.
Suddenly the commotion of the bandits came and he saw all well dressed people of his princess turned soldiers. He understood that it was a set up to catch the bandits.
But what caught his attention was his princess. Who was diverting the bandits with the same screen that kept her away from his eyes.
He so wanted that screen to be torn. And his wish was granted. His princess tore the screen herself and, first her eyes came! Sharp as her sword. Then lips, and then.. That was one awesome entry for Devasena

Awww!

Was all he could do or say. Never once he has seen a woman handle sword so beautiful apart from his mother. Her every movement hit him hard. She was a pleasant change from all the damsels he has seen before. Her eyes had the fire while her face was so pleasant. She was looking so simple, but so elegantly carried herself even while fighting 5-10 goons. She is devasena for a reason 😳
But then duty calls, he had to fight some of the bandits himself as they were planning a hidden attack.
Oh how he wished to be with her as she fought!
But then, he thought may be he should do the opposite. What is the fun in impressing her with his speed and skills? She should see him who he is, not what he is.
And he smiled how he planned to act as Moddhu, thanks to his mama! One cute moddhu he was 😆

He chuckled even now thinking at her tone when she scolded them for hiding with women!
And he also noticed her checking him out. What did she say?

"Oddu podugu bagane unnadu.."

He smiled thinking of her smile as she moved on from there. He knew that she did not buy their story. He very well knew that she will not stay put until she found out about him. It was because of his little slips here and there.
Like he let his arm fly looking at her and forgot that he should be acting as Moddhu. Thank god his mama made that Kumara Varma as hero and saved him.
Again during that boar hunt, he was so eager to show his talents. She might be the best archer in Kunthalam. But he wanted her to see his talent. He did not know why. So hiding behind Kumara varma, he did hunt down all the boars. Because he wanted her to know that he was the right one for her 😉
But again, he got caught.
His Devasena was really smart. Just with his touch, she recognized him to be no Moddhu but a warrior. He smiled thinking how she very cleverly missed her step and fell for him to catch. His palms still tingled feeling her touch.😳
He smiled seeing the worry in her eyes as he got injured by her bull. He knew that she understood his little play. But he so wanted to see if she did have feelings for him. So he left the spear, but not before he looked at her once. And he saw, what he wanted to see.
And then when his Mama let him fall on her in this very kitchen after treatment, oh how he wanted to stay there forever and beyond. His this wish also was granted!
He chuckled remembering how she glared at Mama for asking her to sing lullaby for him. He did not know why, but he so wanted her to sing for him. May be he was missing his mother. He shrugged.
He looked at his uncle who was still singing his lullaby for him and smiled thinking the disturbed glance Devasena threw at him before leaving for Krishna pooja. He looked at the band on his shoulder and removed it.
He was about to go and get something to eat, when he heard that.

"Muripala mukunda.."

Was Devasena singing really?

"Poda poda lona, Daagudumootalaapara.."

Amarendra smiled. He knew that she caught him.

"Kanna Nidurinchara.."

And, Amarendra looked up from the garden to the balcony where Devasena was. He saw through the gaps and saw her looking down at him as she sang. His smile grew wide. She was singing for him. Yes only for you da moddhu !

"Chaalu chaalu nee atamatalu
Pavalinchaka theeravu alasatalu"

Amarendra's face glowed as she asked him to sleep after all the games they played this day.

"Tadi tadi kannulatho nee pai vaali soli
Thamakamu thelipidine"

Amarendra grinned remembering her fall on him and then his fall on her.

"Naa mathi maali dosamu jerige
Oh vanamali eddhu ninnu podiche
Paapam anta naadenura"

Did she? Amarendra was taken aback. Did she really say sorry? For leaving basavanna on him? And what was in her voice? The shake, tremor?

Amarendra smiled. His Devasena, singing for him! It was so soothing. He chose a branch that could hold him and laid on it.
He slept off immediately with the same comfort while he slept on his Amma's lap.

This entire part was so dreamy. Very well-written !


Part 2

Amarendra was happily sleeping as he heard that. Being a warrior, he learnt being alert in sleep at a very tender age. But he knew this was not any enemy approaching him, but his princess.
He kept his eyes shut as he wanted to see what she would do. But he could not help the smile on his face. He was so happy to see that he had managed to impress Devasena.
His smile widened as he felt her hand coming to touch him. But he could so feel her hesitation. Saving her, he opened his eyes and saw a beautiful sight.
His princess stood there in that moonlight as a light pink hue spread on her face. He tried very hard to stifle his smile. But she was so cute! Happa finally he saw her in that costume ! In the whole movie she was looking the most beautiful in KN.
He got down from the branch, continuing his Moddhu act.

"Yu.. Yuvarani?"

He called. He slipped, purposefully to see what she would do and he smiled when he saw the worry lacing in those sharp eyes. He composed himself and stood steady. She slips purposely he slips purposely nalla vilaiyaduringada
His princess very quickly covered her worry and gave him a stern glare.

"Ikadem chestunnav?"

She asked in that No non sense tone of hers. He smiled.

"A..adi.. M..meeru.. Jo..jola pada..ra.. N..nenu nidra p..po..poyanandi.. That you sand lullaby.. And I slept!"

He said. He could see her getting disturbed. But he had to give it to her for maintaining her stern glare.

"Is this the place to sleep?"

He wanted to say that he slept here as this place brought him close to her. He wanted to say her that, from here, he could see the moon in the sky and the moon in his life. Vennela connect ! 😉But, he couldnt say that right?

"A..Adii"

Devasena silenced him showing her palm. He pouted. Oh she was silencing him with gestures. His fiery princess. And he stifled his smile looking at her chuckle at his pout. Oh how he loved that sound.

"Noppi ela vundi? How are you feeling?"

He could not stop himself from smiling. She was so worried for him. So concerned. How he craved for this to stay with him all his life.


"Mee.. paata.. Lo.. Naa.. N.. neppi.. Maayam.. Aa.. ayipoyindandi. You sang and my pain vanished" He is so cute when he stammers

He said trying to maintain his act but also gave her a hint of him understanding that the song was for him in the name of the lord. He also knew that she trusted him. Otherwise she letting him inside Kunthala Royal fortress? He understood her that much.

"Velli paduko!"

She said and turned.

"A..Attage Yu.. yuvarani"

He smiled. And he understood that she was smiling too. He stood there as he saw her walk inside and he shook his head looking down.

"Baahu"

He heard his Mama call him. He turned and grinned at his Mama.

"Enti? Yuvarani was here?"
"A..Adi.. Ne..nenu nidra poyano ledo ani ka..kanukovadani.. She came to see.. If I had slept or not.."

He stammered. His Mama glared.

"Baahu! Putting up your act to me?"

He asked and Amarendra could not help but chuckle. He was so happy. His Mama was happy too. Both went inside.
Days passed. He came to know about Devasena a lot. She was impulsive, she was headstrong and she had the never give up attitude.
She had the best aim in Archery and she was so well versed with sword. He was so impressed with the way her sword bending to her every whim. And she had the best aim in archery.
But she was not satisfied. He chuckled thinking how she always tried to take multiple aims with multiple arrows with single bow simultaneously. And he grinned thinking how her Vadina always admonished Devasena's brother for letting her learn all these skills and making her a tomboy instead of getting her ready for marriage. But he was actually thankful.
As he churned the butter, he could not help but think of Kumara Varma. He knew that he was putting up brave front. But it did not mean that he was weak. But Kumara Varma required a strong lesson on getting his strength out.
In between all these, Devasena never forgot to tease him with all those glances and all those small small picks here and there asking him to do something out of his act.
He could not disappoint her. And at the same time he had to stay as Moddhu, so he always messed it up making her glare at him, but also giggle.
He tasted the freshly churned butter and moaned at the taste. A little more churning and the butter would be ready. Amara knows this too! Aawww jack of all trades he is. He frowned suddenly. Something was amiss. He continued churning but kept his ears sharp. At that moment, his Mama came running to him bringing a good and a bad news.

"Rajamata has sent a proposal for Yuvarani!"

For a moment, Amarendra felt like flying high. His Amma always knew what he wanted. But he frowned seeing his Mama's sad face.

"But Yuvarani has rejected the proposal and has sent a very snobby reply."
"What happened mama?"

He asked and his Mama recited the whole fiasco of how the proposal came and how it was presented. Amarendra smiled. He did not expect anything less from her. After all no one rubs on her wrong side and gets away. He did not blame her. But somewhere he also knew that even if not for the attitude of Maahishmati minister, Devasena would have anyway rejected the proposal. He knew that she was impressed by him. His heart somewhere said that Devasena rejected the proposal for him. He smiled and said the samething to his Mama who jsut shrugged.

How I wish we got to see all these little details in the movie. As I read the lines I am visualizing the scenes it is so beautiful.


Part 3

But again, he felt it. Something was definitely wrong. He got alerted.

"Mama Ayudham!"

He said and ran towards the palace. There he saw Kumara Varma rushing towards him and frowned at the angry lines in his face. He stood on his path and glared at him. But Amarendra had other important jobs. So he tried to walk past him.

"Ekadiki? Where to?"

Kumara asked.

"TO Yuvarani's chamber"

And he saw him erupt like Volcano. And he kicked him on his chest. Man, that was some strength. Kumara was not weak after all. He smiled. But then He had other important jobs and the danger was there. So he ran back and lifted Kumara's chariot and threw it on the Pindari's who came running.
His mama came there with his weapons and took care of the extra Pindaris and asked Kumara to ring the Danger bell.
Amarendra shook his head as he saw Kumara jumping and running along with the Ladies after ringing the bell. He fought all the pindaris and rushed behind Kumara Varma as he knew that it would not take Pindaris much time to reach the ladies. Swinging in through a creeper, he landed inside the chamber and saw Kumara Varma standing among ladies. He shook his head.
But he knew that he did not have time, so he gave his dagger to Kumara.

"Kumara Varma, Pranam posevadu devudu, Pranam nilapatevadu Vaidhyudu, Pranam kapadevadu Kshatruyudu! Kaalam prati pirikivodiki, veerudu ga maare oka avakasam istondi. Aa kshanam ide Kumara Varma! Awww this dialogue especially when said by Amara...ufff!!!
The one who gives life is god, the one who retains is a doctor, but the one who saves life is a Kshatriya. Time gives every weakling a moment to turn into a strong warrior. This is that moment Kumara Varma."

And he jumped out from there. He saw his Mama and Kunthalam King Jayadev fighting the Pindaris. He again caught some creeper and branches and went in search of the weak point from where Pindaris would get in easily.
And what he found there, blew his breath away. Just like him, Devasena had also judged the weak point right and was already fighting the Pindaris. Man, she was fast. She was raining arrows on the men. But there were too many and though she was fast, it wasnt enough. And he also knew his proud Devasena is not going to call for help. And he took charge.
Taking 3 arrows and jumped in the air as he aimed at 3 Pindaris who were so close to her and fired. And he wanted to jump at how perfectly he hit the target.
He kept moving forward firing as he saw Devasena standing there admiring his skill. He smiled. That admiration made him feel so proud that he very enthusiastically hit a few more Pindaris. But he also knew that at the end she would not like him saving the day for her and he also knew that he needed her also in this fight. So he rushed back to her. Never once her eyes left him. His insides were flying high! But he maintained a very serious face and looked at her. If not for this fight he would have "hamsa navaad" her there and then itself😆

"Yuvarani..!"

She was still in stance. But his call brought her back. But he also saw that she was still having that smile.

"Na dwe!"

He showed two and four fingers. She also forwarded her 4 fingers.

"Manibandham Bahirmukham!"

He turned his wrist showing her the action. Then he took the arrows himself and aimed showing her the position. She was quick learn. He smiled to himself. As she stood next to him aiming her arrows, he couldnt help but smile at their position. Smiling he commanded.

"Thyaja!"

And both fired and hit the target. Devasena was perfect partner for him. She was fast, quick and man, she had some skills with weapons. HE couldn't help but be jealous of the sword of hers that was dangling from her waist chain. But this was not the time. He hit a Pindari with his bow and he moved to Devasena who was fighting. He nodded his head.
Fighting she moved to him. Holding her hand, he twirled her. She caught 3 arrows and he too caught 3 arrows and aimed on her bow together. He smiled and he could feel her smile. Both fired and all the Pindari's there were done!
He felt like he had the moment of his life. He never expected to meet a woman who could compliment him this way. He looked down the parapet and saw many other Pindari's rushing towards the fortress. They had very less time.

"Veera! Who are you!"

Came the question that had been in her mind. He knew this was inevitable. But he also knew this was not the time.

"This is not the time Yuvarani! I will explain later"

And he went down. Devasena followed him. His Mama joined him.

"Mama! Get those shepherds and ask them to get their oxes and bulls ready. We might need their help. Kunthalam is short of soldiers comparing to Pindaris."

His Mama nodded and ran to the shepherds fighting away the Pindaris.
He went to the front of the Fortress wall and faced the Pindaris who were standing there ready to attack.

"Arey! From where did this mosquito kingdom get so much guts to fight us? The Pindaris?"

Came a voice that halted him and Devasena. They both turned to see Pindaris' head standing there. Amarendra wanted to warn them.

"Back away from Kunthalam!"

He said in slow but commanding voice.

"And now we have some joker to support them! Do one thing, You send all the ladies here, We will take everything we need and will back away. What.."

Amarendra's blood boiled. He so wanted to shoot an Arrow on that man's head. Before he could finish thinking, he saw an arrow going through that man's skull. Taken aback he turned and saw Devasena standing with her bow, her eyes letting sparks fly.

"What is the use of having a brain that does not think before letting tongue speak?" Ahaan! The missing scene has been incorporated in this, perfect dialogue !!

She asked! Amarendra could not help but chuckle. This was one fierce Princess he laid his eyes on. And she smiled making him shake his head.

Part 4

But they had a fight going on. So he lit fire on an arrow and fired in the direction of the dam where his Mama was.
Here the Pindari's erupted as they saw their head being shot. They came running towards the fortress only to be thrown away by the massive bulls that came their way running with fire lit horns. Once the bulls ran, Amarendra used that distraction to his advantage as he started firing the Pindaris.
But then he remembered His Mama telling that Pindaris liked to drown the people in water after they were done with them. He saw up and saw the dam block. Seeing back, he saw Devasena was there to take care. Nodding once to her, he ran up fighting the pindaris who came his way. He saw her watching him with Aww, just they way he stood when she fought in the woods. Smiling he moved up and reached the shepherds and ran asking them throw him hooks and come along with them.
They tied one end of the rope to the bulls and other to the hooks and ran along with him on the Block that held the dam. He asked them to hook them beneath the blocks.
Another Pindari head came flying to him stab him. He took his own knife and pinned him to the block there and ran up to the dam wall. As the bulls ran farther, the ropes tightened and his plan worked as the block got dislodged breaking the dam. The water flowed down washing away the pindaris and the ones inside the fortress were safe due to high walls. From there he saw Devasena looking at him and smiling as he caught hold of a log and floated to the fortress.
As soon as he entered, he saw Kumara Varma standing there with teary eyes.

"Without knowing you, I.. kicked you. I am Sorry"

Amarendra smiled.

"Only because of you did that, I was able to judge your strength Kumara Varma!"

He touched Kumara Varma's wounds and looked up at him.

"This blood is not of a weakling Kumara Varma. They are witness to your bravery"

Kumara Varma hugged him. Maharaja Jeyadeva, came forward and thanked him. But he had eyes only for a one woman who was looking like fire in red and was glowing the in the light of dancing flames.

"Who are you? Why were you acting?"

Maharaja asked. He looked at his Mama who again came for his rescue. Somehow he did not want to utter a lie in front of his Devasena. So only from the beginning, he had his Mama lie for him. His name Shivudu was also a partial lie as that was the name his Amma gave him whenever they were in disguise.

"Why does that matter Maharaja. My nephew is here on a purpose as he has fallen for a girl in this kingdom"

He heard his Mama say. But his eyes were on the woman. He could see her smile and he too smiled. Maharaja Jayadeva was happy, his wife was happy too.

"Who is that lucky girl?"

She asked. But he knew that the secret wasn't secret anymore.

"Yuvarani"

His Mama revealed. And he saw his Devasena blush again. He smiled. He then saw everyone getting happy at this. His happiness knew no bounds when his falcon came screeching to him. Looks like his mother has sent message for him.

He happily opened the message only to get the shock. His face changed. He heard Devasena.

"What message is it Veera?"

This was inevitable. So he opened up.

"Rajamata Sivagami Devi's orders to arrest and bring you, Yuvarani"

And he saw something he hated. Tears in Devasena's eyes. He has always seen the eyes being sharp and playful. But tears.. He was sure he did not like the site of them in those eyes. She called him traitor. She was so angry at him. But he knew the reason behind this message. So maintained composure.

"WHO ARE YOU?"

She asked. But he did not want to reveal his identity when she was at the peak of anger.

"In anger even sweet will taste as bitter as poison Yuvarani"

He took a step forward, only to get stopped by her sword, which she kept it on his chest.

"WHO ARE YOU!"

She asked again. But he refused again. In anger Devasena sheathed her sword and took the torch from the soldier and hit him with the flame on his chest. His outer common clothes burned away revealing his Maahishmati armour. His Mama revealed his identity. But he had eyes only to the woman who poured fire on him. Every single soul bowed down, but not her. She stood with her head held high. And he fell for her more. He smiled and asked everyone to get up.
But he was concerned only about one person.

"My mother does not do wrong Devasena. This is a misunderstanding. I will clear everything. Come with me as a prisoner."

Devasena smiled. That showed him what was going to be her answer. And she did not surprise him.

"You won my heart. So if you ask me to come as your servant, I will readily walk with you your whole life. But not at the cost of my self respect."

And he fell for her even more. He knew that she was one person in his life whom he would cherish every moment with. So he decided then and there.

"Devasena! From this moment on, I promise you that, until I take my last breath, I will not let anyone harm you or your self respect." THE PROMISE😳

And he kept his hand on hers. He did not know what made him do such a promise. But he did, only for her happiness which could extend to him.
As if she understood him, she smiled. So did he.

"Come with me to Maahishmati Devasena"

He said holding her hand, and she nodded.

Now that the fight was over, it was time they looked into the damages. He looked down the fortress wall and saw that the flood he caused was draining. Thanks to Kunthalam construction, the water flowed easily.

"We need to check on the people and the places around for damages"

He said. Devasena and Maharaja Jayadev Nodded.

"Mama. Get our horses ready."
"I am coming too"

He turned and raised his brow to her. And she stood unmoving meeting his gaze making him smile.
Nodding to Maharaja, he, his uncle and Devasena left along with some soldiers to look into the damaged places. He left his uncle to check on the low areas and he went up to the dam wall to see what can be done to stop the water for time being.
He could feel Devasena tagging with him but with her eyes fixed on him. He smiled. He turned to look at the block that he dislodged. It was intact.
Thinking about moving it, he whistled for the soldiers who responded back saying that they were coming. Meanwhile, he lifted the logs and closed the opening in the dam.
All this while he could feel Devasena's eyes following his every movement. Smiling he called her.

"Yuvarani. Pass me your dagger"

He asked as he wanted to punch the log. But he did not gain ay response. He turned and saw her looking at him working over the wood with her eyes glowing. Devasena is in Amara land that's why ra moddhu He cleared his throat. She came out of her stance. He took the dagger and started working. Hiding his smile he looked at her once.

"Yuvarani.."

He called. She frowned. He got back to his work.

"Me Drushti.. Ekkado unnattundi?"

He teased her. He saw her face glow again. This time in anger. He knew that he was going over board with his teasing. But he just enjoyed doing it. He smiled getting on to working.
Once soldiers came, with their help and Devasena's help, they closed the dam again and returned to the fortress.
They both walked slowly, leaving others to move ahead. Their hands touched each other as they walked side by side. He could see her looking at her kingdom as if taking in the sight.

"Thinking about leaving this place Yuvarani?"

He found himself asking. But she nodded her head in denial.

"Thinking about coming times in Maahishmati" Wherever you go I follow 😆

He smiled. He always liked her attitude.

"Good"

He said irritating her more.

"You should rest, we have to leave early tomorrow"

And that did get to her. Smiling he went from there. He denied every hospitality and he stayed back in kitchen, from where he could watch his Yuvarani. Devasena who understood his intentions smiled as her cheeks grew hot.
Throughout the night he kept watching her from the garden and he was so sure that she was doing the same.
The sun rose beautifully welcoming this new day in his life. He freshened up and moved to the royal chamber where he found Devasena hugging her Vadina.

"Be careful Devasena. Behave"
"She is a free spirit. Don't try to suppress her"

He heard Maharaja admonish his wife. He smiled.

"I will make sure that she is always a free spirit Maharaja" Jai connect😉

He said taking them by surprise. Devasena smiled at him and he felt the day becoming more beautiful. Maharaja came to him with a set of new robes.

"It is our tradition Yuvaraja. Wear this and we will get blessings from Parameshawar before sending our daughter with you for life"

Amarendra nodded and went to change. He and Devasena were made to stand in the simple yet very elegant temple in the Royal palace. Special poojas were organised and both were announced betrothed in front of the lord. Smiling, he held Devasena's hand without anyone's knowledge. She looked down smiling but her eyes complained to him. He just shook his head.
Once all the festivities were done, He took leave from Maharaja with a promise to look after Devasena.
He got into the boat. He looked at Devasena who kept looking at him. He smiled. So did she. Both forgot their place. Which made Devasena miss a step as the log connecting the boat and the shore fell into the water.
He immediately jumped in and brought the boat to her refusing other help. But never once did their eyes leave each others.

"Are you ok Yuvarani?"

He asked smiling. She smiled and nodded. He grinned.

"Mee Drushti.. Ekkado unnatundi?"

He said reminding of their last time together. But this time Devasena did not back away. He saw a determination in her eyes as she got up. He smiled bending his head and then his eyes widened as he felt her foot on his shoulder. He looked up to see her walk on his shoulder with her head held high not minding the spectators.
He stood letting her do. This was another promise from him to her. She got into the boat and looked at him raising her brow.
Now it was his turn to blush and smile. Trust her to put him on the spot. He got into the boat that led them to the gigantic ship which took them towards their new journey in their life with raising sun as the witness to this union.

Aaawww !!!!! I don't think any words can do justice to this write-up Meenamma! Loved every single line and how you connected the scenes we saw in the movie adding the extra bits of your view. It was perfect. What we missed out in the film is fulfilled through your write-up. Thank you so much for this! Sorry for the delay but it's better late than never and I just couldn't ignore this piece of work. 👏 👏 👏

when we are in crowded place, he becomes my bodyguard. when I am in boring situation, I look at him and he comes to my rescue. When I am stuck with a majnu, I give him this look and he comes and pulls me out of situation. Its not like I dont know to handle the situation. But I am hot headed while he is level one.

For a Selfie, when we pose, he always has his hand around me.. A lot like that!

Between Friendship and the other, its just a very thin.. very thin line. Its in the beholder's sight. 😆
