Yash Raj Films' (YRF) much-awaited "Dhoom 3" will be the first Bollywood film to be released in IMAX theatres, after being digitally re-mastered in the IMAX format, it was announced here Friday.
The third instalment of the popular action-adventure "Dhoom" franchise will release in IMAX theatres, known for high-end digital projection and sound systems, across India and select global locations, in 2013.
"IMAX has always symbolised high quality film entertainment and experience and this vision of the company works very well with the ethos of YRF, which has been synonymous with Indian film entertainment over the last four decade," YRF head honcho Yash Chopra said in a statement.
"We are indeed happy to announce our association with IMAX for the additional release of 'Dhoom 3' in this exciting format next year. Added to the anticipated thrill that the film promises, this experience will give it an all new edge of the seat dimension altogether," he added.
Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra, "Dhoom 3" stars Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif.
"With its riveting action set pieces, global locales and stunning visuals, 'Dhoom 3' is an ideal film to take advantage of our immersive format as we begin our initiative with Indian-language/Bollywood films," says Greg Foster, chairman and president, IMAX Filmed Entertainment.
The film is currently being shot in Chicago.
