Shyamala Ji, the TRP masala can also be used in the respective provinces of the Princes.

Even so, the main draw of the show was Acharya Chanakya. Evidenced by the TRP drop, spike and drop with his exit, re-entry and exit respectively.

I am going to quote Astha and say that a good balance can be easily achieved. People like political drama if it is beautifully presented and isn't needlessly complicated.

My dear Astha,

First of all, I am very pleased that you have decided to join this discussion.

Second, thank you so much for your concern about my RA and for your thoughtfulness in endorsing Babur's suggestion about the voice typing. It is really very kind of you. The truth is that with RA, for which there is no cure, one has to learn to live with continuous, low level and at times not so low level pain.It is not only when I type, it is with every kind of activity. But I cannot sit around and wail about that, Why me? , when there are far worse things like the Big C around that I am lucky enough to have escaped as yet.

As for the trouble I have with typing, it is limiting, for my fingers stiffen and seize up and then I have to stop for the day, but till that happens, I do enjoy myself, for I relish the writing and the discussions.

I am not sure how easy it will be for me, given the way I draft and edit a text, to get accustomed to voice typing, but I shall have to make a start with it sooner rather than later.

Now for the main part of your comments. I have never watched Game of Thrones, which, judging from the write ups, would not suit someone as old-fashioned and almost prudish as I am. But I agree with what you say about the centrality of Ashoka being a limiting factor as far as lot of all round detail is concerned. Still, there could have been a good bit more of explanatory elements, along with maps. Many people know the locations for a tale about Akbar, but far fewer for one about the Mauryan dynasty, and maps and tracking lines for movements would have helped. Plus figures about the military strength of the various parties, and even weaponry and battlefield tactics.

Then, at least such side characters as are there should be credible and meaningful. Now, the Sushim-Ahankara track was an exercise in pure sadism on his side, which would have made all but confirmed wife-beaters cringe, and equally off putting helplessness on hers, when all she needed to do was to tell the truth to Dharma, if not to Bindusara. Then she seems to have vanished without a trace. I never could see the purpose of that track at all. It was not historical, for she is an apocryphal character, nor did she have any sustained role to play. Very likely it was meant to wring sympathy from women viewers.Of course Ahankara looked good in her Amrapali outfits, a not inconsiderable plus!😉

A lot of footage was, and is wasted on such stuff which could have been, and could be - just look at the whole swayamvadhu farce! - used better elsewhere, then and now, for the kind of parallel tracks you and Babur want. The problem is that I am sure a lot of people liked all this light relief, and the saccharine finale last night as well.

So, I doubt very much if anything like what you, Babur and I want is going to happen. Instead, for the next week or two, we shall have the Mauryan equivalent of two Shaahi Shaadis, with an acid attack via the upkant, and a grand embezzlement plot thrown in!

Please allow me to join this conversation. I am not familiar with the show Chanakya but I understand something like Game of Thrones and the world it created is being suggested? If Nicator or Greeks in general were given proper place in the story or politics in Khurasan was a parallel storyline, I suppose it would have had a different title. Since the show is about Ashok, I suppose that's why it's more unidimensional. I do agree though that they can give specifics during a war, make the political conversations more technical, but they don't even give complexity to the characters so that would be expecting too much of the makers.
Regarding how the basic elements were similar to any soap, I believe wouldn't that list apply to almost any such story.. But since the fight here is not over the control of the household but rather the Empire, that's what makes it different. This is what I think and Babur's suggestion should work because people would want to see the three brothers consolidating their own position in separate places and then meeting for a showdown. Just like they wanted to see when ashok finally enters the palace, how will he be accepted? It's not very complex I think. They should atleast try one parallel track, which btw I think they might with Siamak in Taxila.
I will also recommend that you try voice typing. It seems too painful to even read about the trouble you're having. Best wishes.

With that last, I agree in toto, provided the adjectives and adverbs are firmly in place!

Anyway, I'm almost caught up to CAS. Just finished the MahaEpisode (as well as last week's Thurs/Friday episodes) and posted my review in the July thread. (Thurs/Friday Review; Mahaepisode review).

I'll watch Monday and Tuesday tomorrow and post then. But I'm pleasantly surprised, EDT activity has skyrocketed lately. Glad to see everyone posting in full force!

First of all welcome back. 😃
@Bold: Mostly because of shyamala aunty. ⭐️ She got all of EDT (Except me of course😛) talking. Can you imagine 57 pages of healthy discussion in just 11 days? 👏

What ? I miss one day episode and they entirely change the story. WTH

Bindusar what a nautanki. He doesn't eat for 2 days and then decide to give a speech on love marriage. Ok I agree that KWK supporting while Bindu didn't trust him was a very good thing. Probably the best thing she ever did since she is in the show. 😆 But damn is it enough to be the perfect wife for Ashok. Every time I start appreciating Bindu he falls again. 😡

Charu was hilarious. She was giving lecture to Dharma not to disturb Bindu even if he dies of hunger but when he opened the door she was like eat something. 🤣

Tujhe chhune ko maan kare... Is the song that came in my mind when Lassandra touched Sushim. 😆 First KWK, then Chanda now Lassi Baby. 😆 Who is next to take him to the heaven ? 🤣

So Lassandra is with Ashok or SushMak ? 🤔 It sounded like she is with SushMak but then Ashok said it will be the end of Siamak so I am confused.

Devi oh Devi stop crying ? Stop being irritating. 😡 CVS please give her a cupid costume. That's the only achievement she will get by shipping AshWaki. Damn now Bindusar and RG both are AshWaki shippers too. 🤢

Anandini is that fool who parties before the victory.

Now that Bindu has stumped all of us with his entirely unexpected brain cell activity -- he can pretend, keep secrets and do it all with with great flourish and humour too -- he might want to share with us his views on Helena's stunning revelations.

So why doesn't he -- while he is in that startlingly intelligent phase -- ask himself how Helena got to where she did? Why doesn't he recollect what Ashok told him about the evil quartet in light of Helena's imprimatur on it?

Nahi yaar Bindu, you can't just come out of your stupidly, briefly dazzle us and go back to your natural state of passivity and incomprehension.

Just THINK, THINK, THINK.

My dear Suyash,

What a very sweet and flattering thing to say! As for me, all I can think of by way of a suitable response is, one, Thanks a million, and two, I had a tremendous amount of fun going back and forth with all you delightful, chirpy young people here, which made me feel at least 10 years younger! A Now that you are back, things can only get even better!

It feels so nice to be accepted by a new crowd and made to feel completely at home.

Dear Rohini,

Reading this, I was struck by how similar our thought processes are. Do take a look at my response to Babur at the very top of page 5.

And you are to kind to Bindusara. It is not just passivity and incomprehension, it is plain obstinacy and wrong-headedness.

Shyamala,

I do a lot of writing and have severe back pain from sitting up for hours on end. I finally started doing some exercises which has improved my flexibility. I guess you will have gone through all that.

I use a Sony Voice recorder and now I'm thinking of downloading a voice to text software. I worry though that the software will mutilate my words, more so since I'm tech challenged. As it is, I can barely cope with auto's anarchist behaviour.

Tried Kottakkal?

And yes, thanks from me too, Shyamala, for livening up the forum and adding to its reputation as the only place in all of IF where we can have both intelligent conversation and good-natured fun.
