Ross always gets the flak for not being a good boyfriend. But here's all the shit Rachel did.
- Pursued Ross when he was in a relationship with Julie
- Got upset at Ross for making a list to decide what he should do. I can see both sides. But for logic-driven people, weighing the pros and cons is natural
- Dated Russ and was oblivious to what she was doing
- Dismissed Ross's concerns regarding Mark. Ross ultimately turned out to be right but still gets flak for it. Penny showed more emotional intelligence in addressing Leonard's insecurities. Jealousy is an ugly and undesirable trait, but it happens. You don't dismiss or belittle someone's jealousy. You acknowledge it but assure them that you choose them. If they still act jealous then its a problem.
- Prioritized career over her relationship. Why wouldn't you take time off when your significant other is making plans for your anniversary? Why would you work late for days while ignoring your significant other? I hold this standard for everyone. It is wrong when men or women ignore their wife and kids over work. I think it is wrong when people ignore other friends and family for work as well.
- She decided to take a break and never clarified what the parameters were
- She let Mark come over for dinner knowing that he was a sore spot in the relationship
- She pursued Ross again when he was with Bonnie and convinced Bonnie to shave her head
- Then, after letting Ross assume she wants to get back together put him in a corner with her letter asking him to shoulder the entire blame of a failed relationship
- Behaved unprofessionally with a client, Joshua; it would be creepy were the genders were reversed
- Pressured Joshua to move faster in a relationship to keep up with Ross and Emily
- Decided to fly to London to stop Ross and Emily's wedding
- Told Ross she loved him while he was trying to navigate his failing marriage
- Knew that she was the one who suggested getting married in Vegas but never said a thing
- Expected Ross to handle the divorce/annulment and didn't do anything on her end to follow up
- Pursues Ross again when Monica gets engaged and uses him as a pawn because she is struggling to be single while her friend gets engaged
- Illegally hires Tag over a more qualified candidate because she finds him cute, then pursues an unethical relationship with her direct report (It is worse than Ross dating a student because Rachel pursues Tag and holds power to fire or write Tag up during the entire relationship. Elizabeth pursued Ross and she was no longer his student. He never held any power over her grades during the relationship. )
- Once again came onto Ross when Monica and Chandler were about to be married but blamed him for coming onto her
- Demanded that he not date anyone towards the end of the pregnancy even though they were not together
- Said yes when she thought Joey was proposing even though she had just had an intimate moment with Ross before the delivery
- Never had a mature conversation with Ross about their situationship when they co-parented Emma (Ross was also so dumb about it)
- Expects Ross to physically comfort her with sex during her father's heart attack
People blame Ross for stopping Rachel from pursuing a career in Paris. But when you look at it, Rachel spent ten years hung up on Ross and making bad decisions around him. She slept with or tried to sleep with Ross every time she was upset about something.
Despite all that I do believe they genuinely cared for each other and it made sense that they got together. I think it made her arc an interesting full circle.
She left a man to pursue her independence and a career, she then left a job opportunity to pursue a man. Back then, as a young woman, she needed to take time to find herself. Now that she had found a career, success, and independence, she needed to be with the man who was there through it all
