I think I have really crappy taste in movies - I have a history of liking movies which often get panned by critics and audiences alike

And I also like movies liked by critics and audiences. So basically low standards.

What I can't handle is the over the top action with people and cars flying around i.e. Rohit shitty movie template. I know It's a bit rich coming from someone who actually found kalank, jab Harry met Sejal and thugs of Hindustan a decent watch, but flying cars and fake machismo is where I draw the line 🤭🤭

I am basically okay with a movie if it has one of the following - good performance, decent story, some new concept, my favorite stars, decent direction. Either one of these things ticked is a good watch for me

There was a point I only used to like the more commercial, low-effort fare. Then I had a pretentious phase, where I was only watching art-house films. Then I had an even more pretentious phase, where I was only watching art-house films in languages I didn't speak. Now I just watch anything that feels new/different. In theaters, I prefer either films with some sort of technical achievement that makes it worth the watch or the big event films if it's a group activity. Everything else, I prefer to watch at home. 😆

Sensible masala if there is such a genre. What can I say. Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor together undid all the fine work my parents did trying to educate my taste with art-house films. But there shouldn't be cars flying defying gravity as the previous poster said or a superhuman hero adulated by all).(Looking at you Bahubali and Shamshera).

Gosh, I have also had a similar trajectory 😆. I grew up watching pakka commercial cinema and thoroughly enjoyed it, then I had started developing an interest towards off-beat / underrated cinema across different Indian languages, English and few other intl languages. As a student you have a lot of time and not to forget that 'Oh I'm so cool' , phase. Some of the movie viewing experiences were absolutely great and some outright boring but overall it was an enjoyable phase, I would say. Even then I never really lost interest in commercial cinema , it has always been my staple. At this point though, I just watch anything that I feel could be good without too much of movie hunting or going through Imdb lists because of time constraints and also I'm at a phase where I find reality not just stranger than fictional stuff but far more interesting too, accordingly my interest in movies has reduced a bit, so that is there. 😆

For a while in college, I was watching a film a day. I couldn't even stand some of the more 'high-brow' cinema I was watching. 😆

Yeah, I can't really do that anymore either. And choosing a film to watch takes as long as watching a film. I miss cable TV and days of two films in the theaters 😆
