- people want theatrical movies to be larger than life, cinematic, and action-packed. There is no desire for simple films and social dramas in theatres.

- pandemic has definitely shifted how often people will choose to go into theatres, a global recession has also tightened how much people are willing to spend.

- the abundance of streaming options takes up people's times. Even if they are interested in a theatrical release they may wait for it to stream or choose to catch up on other streaming options.

- On their own boycott trends don't do much but compounded with so many shifts in media consumption patterns just increases their impact

@bold - that’s not in line with the biggest Bollywood hit of 2022. Or are we claiming that as an outlier?

How does Kjo shove Alia down the audience's throat?

This I have read so many times. This complaint is very popular in the forum. But I want to understand. How?

Alia has done a total of 14 films, 1 of which came recently on OTT. Kjo is not the only filmmaker we have in the industry to whom we expect to give all films, or can we see BIG Films?

Alia did 9 out of 14 films which were Dharma productions, but this isn't new or the first time some production house has done anything like this. We have so many actor-directors and actor-production houses doing films.

We have SRK doing the majority of his films with YRF/Dharma. Wasn't that shoving SRK down the audience's throat?

Seriously you are comparing Alia with SRK?....SRK is an outsider, he was not someone's son. Alia Bhatt's story is a whole other thing.

If you think both are the same thing, then I dont know what to say to you. Stop trying to make Alia happen, most people hate her and you'll have to accept that.

2. His show is watched globally, but it isn't the only show, ppl who are irked can opt for not seeing the show. They can even ignore this as Kjo is bias for Alia, so mention will come.

3. Regarding Roles - Where all this came from that she snatched projects, which projects, out of her 14 films, Highway, Raazi & Darlings got critics good reviews, rest are average to normal, which project she snatched, which roles were so powerful that this theory comes? Even if Dharma made films with her, what was wrong in it, Didn't Rakesh roshan made films with hrithik, few of his biggest hits. Govinda-David dhawn bombo, Ghai-Anil Kapoor. How is it so big a problem if Dharma makes film taker her as lead? Dharma films are not GOLD STANDARD of India Cinema, are they? That if you aren't in a Dharma film, you aren't that good, that outsider couldn't do a Dharma film, so let's blame Alia & Kjo for it?

arey bhai, aap toh bade bhadak gaye 😆

Honestly, a someone who can and is able to sign a film like Highway right after their debut film like SOTY is definitely privileged in my eyes and also extremely lucky.

I dont have a personal problem with Alia, lol. I just find her personality annoying. She is a decent actress but nothing great what her mentor has made her out to be.

and I mentioned this earlier also, I have no issues with producer and director camaraderie with an actor, it has happened before and it will happen in future too. There is literally nothing wrong in that as long as they both are benefitted out of it.

If you are talking about Kashmir Files then it fits in nicely with the norm - I described. It is not a simple film or social drama. The film takes a ripped from a headlines story and presents it in a cinematic format. It rides on the sentiments of people and presents it in a larger-than-life format on the big screen.

I’m really not sure what was “larger than life” about it tbh.

To take sentiments people have experienced at a personal level or small community level and present it as a big screen experience and turn that personal sentiment into a massive emotional wave a large segment of people collectively feels - isn't that larger than life?

Perhaps we don't have the same perspective. That's fine.

I agree with the sentiment/perspective, it just wasn’t my understanding of the phrase.

I didn't get it either

Is Hades saying the issue TKF talked about, happened in such a small scale in a small area or is insignificant but the movie made it look like it was a major issue

Even then it doesn't seem to fit the definition of "Larger than Life", at least my understanding of it

When you have people like Jhanvi and Ananya getting movies and Sara is the best of the worst, you know you have an issue. A bit on at that.

Kat couldn’t act but at least she looked the part and danced etc. the fact is these actors now can’t act nor can they even dance lol or have a personality. Tiger is doing rinse repeat performances and flopping for ages, who gives them movies?

Almost all BW movies are action now or comedies(horror or thriller), I can’t remember the last drama or romance movie released.

Honestly most of these star kids are dumb AF, even if they don’t believe it, just lie morons. Wouldn’t it be easier to say, yeah I’m privileged thank you so much and have the audience lap it up than justify yourself?

Who does PR for these people?

This shows that ego is the BIGGEST downfall of this industry across the board.

I am not saying that the Kashmiri Pandit genocide was a small issue. However, with the passage of time, it became a simmering sentiment that very few people felt constantly or thought of as frequently. As some characters in the movie too express, on a national scale there was not a lot of empathy or support. The movie changed that and made emotions that people personally experienced at home into something they could experience large scale with a larger audience of people in a theater. Maybe it was always there but I don't think people got to experience it with a much larger community in a theater before the movie was made.

To me, the ability to capture emotions an individual feels personally and present them on a big screen is part of the larger-than-life aspect of cinema. It is the same reason why some romantic movies like DDLJ feel larger-than-life - they cater to the dreamy romanticism people have within them. The Kashmir Files did that with people's anger, pain, and frustration.

But if you disagree with my assessment, so be it. I'll try to refrain now because I don't want to derail an interesting thread on account of my perspective on a movie.
