This sounds good to say but it's not practical and nobody follows it. Even before and after the pandemic, poor people were always in distress. The only change now is that the middle class is also suffering so now they're angry seeing rich people enjoying their lives. Normally, the middle class also enjoys their life and ignores the poor.

All of us can probably do more but do we? I'm just an average person and if I have a little extra money one month, I go out to eat at a nice restaurant or buy a new purse or go to the salon and treat myself. I could give that extra money to someone who genuinely needs it for food or survival. But am I going to? Probably not. People do a bit of charity but nobody gives up their own pleasures or shows selflessness to any great degree.

Rich people are not gonna give up their vacations because the middle class can't find hospital beds now. We can't expect the kind of selflessness that we also don't have.

Why do we hold such altruistic and high standards of celebs? Like if they're going for vacation outta the country now that's a reason to criticize them for not being altruistic and doing charity? I'm sorry, but most people don't give a shit about others including most of us on this forum. If we had the opportunity to go on vacation after recovering safely from Covid without being a safety hazard to others, we would take it in a heart beat. I wanna know which person here would say let me use my money for vacation and volunteer in a rural Underserved area. Should we? Hey charity is encouraged but not required. Stop using celebs as a soft target for everything. Maybe hold these expectations from the politicians running packed election rallies; you know, the people who's JOB it is to run the country.

Moreover, charity doesn't create as many jobs as spending. Yes, spending on onself is not done for altruistic reasons, but it keeps the economy going.

In India, citizen consumption accounts for 60% of GDP. If the rich shut down, the middle class will lose jobs because their jobs are directly or indirectly related to the rich/their businesses. The tax base shrinks, and the government will have no money to pay for essential services. There will be no measures to support the poor. People themselves will spend less on charity.

The corona virus pandemic seems to have had the unexpected side effect of adding blinkers to people. All they can see is case rate. Not mortality/morbidity, not the fact it is by a huge %ge the elderly who are affected poorly, not mental health, not the analysis that the virus actually spreads less outside, not the concept of immunity (at least for short term), and certainly not the consequences of a ruined economy on the poor.

Where does this idea come from that Bollywood celebrities haven't donated or been charitable over the last year?

Even if one discounts the vast amount of money donated to the PM Cares fund (and why should they? If the PM doesn't distribute it fairly that's on him and the gov't not the donors) - there have been donations to the Maharashtra Relief fund, food banks, PPE daily wage workers, the elderly, those out of work in the industry (crew, dancers and even paps) etc.

Charity and donations don't have to be public let alone performative. And when it is public they get accused of doing it for PR. Even Sonu was accused of being fake.

Well not only here even a lot of Hollywood folks have been called out for being insensitive at this time.

But these are actors who act and earn their living, and the audience should see them in that lens rather than hero worshipping them

It's like a regular flu if you are young and do not have any other medical condition (co-morbidities). No need to take rest for 5 months lol.

Good to know this.

I don't mean that you need bedrest. I mean a person should not do exertion or a lot of activity after they recover at least for a few months. Exercise is good, it depends on how long you do it. No over exercise. A lot of activity can cause muscle pain easily as soon as you recover from flu.

Yes corona is not affecting everyone in the same way. Some recovering at home, some in hospital and some in ICU an deaths are happening. Some are more vulnerable and some are not.

Some after recovering, facing side effects, some not. But still its quite good, when you recover, make sure to have sufficient amount of rest for a few months rather than planning vacations. But you know, everyone wants to live life his way. That's what Ranbir/ Alia doing and people criticizing them because the situation is really bad in India.

Just like Covid works differently for people, even recovery works differently for people. You might have had mild covid and a very strong immunity level for resuming work instantly after testing negative and going for a 10 km run when doctors everywhere are recommending to take it slow and resume exercises gradually after recovering from covid.

It's been almost two weeks I tested negative after having covid and I feel lethargic even after doing a small house chore for 10 mins and feel breathless. Along with continuous stomach pain and coughing 24*7 adding to pain in my lungs. My friend got mild covid in October 2020 in the first wave. It's been 6 months and he still has breathing issues and hasn't been able to resume work normally and is still resting while WFH. And we both are under 30, without any co-morbidity or any sort of existing condition. And such experiences have been shared worldwide on social media by people that so many of them are taking time to recover even after a year of covid.

If one has the luxury to rest, it's always advisable to rest as much as possible till full recovery. Just because you've had it easy with recovery, doesn't mean everyone else has. So honestly nothing to LOL about. This whole ' it's just a flu, young people ko kuch nahi hota' is the reason why youngsters in the country are not taking covid seriously and acting irresponsibly by not wearing masks and gathering and partying and turning into covid carriers amidst a freaking scarier and deadlier second wave the country is facing right now.

Covid is not like a regular flu irrespective of whether you are young or old. If it was we wouldn't have been scattering around looking for oxygen, plasma donors etc in hospitals. So many under 45 are dying or going into ventilator with the new mutant in the second wave. I myself have heard three such news of family friends and relatives of colleagues in past one month under 40-45 passing away due to covid without any co-morbidity. Cuz it's just like flu, eh?
