And akash was depressed man who was defeated by life he wasn't immature/ man child

Sanju s character went through a lot of phases in his life he wasn't immature either

Plus he has samar, prem ved harpreet singh and barfi they weren't man child s either

Whether criticism is justified or not depends on how and why the criticism is given. Ranbir is a talented actor. He has impeccable comic timing, natural charm, and ability to evoke emotions. But he tends to pigeon hole himself into the lost man-child type of roles. Sure there are nuances in his film that make the characters different. In terms of acting range though, they don't really challenge him. I think he needs to take risks and challenge himself - maybe a crime thriller, maybe a negative role, even a love story without the self-discovery angle.

Although, there are those who criticize Ranbir only to rile his fans or just feel the need to bash someone or the other. That really isn't criticism, it's trolling. IMO if the criticism isn't constructive, it's trolling.

That's valid criticism, I hope his next two movies show a more different Ranbir because like you said the constant man child roles do get repetitive (even though he does a good job with them). The potential is there since both Shamshera and Brahmastra are very different from what he has done so far.

I didn't watch Tamasha but watched Sanju. Sanju was definitely not as bad as some people here made it out to be but I was expecting more I guess 😕. I didn't end up feeling sympathetic for Sanju even though he acted well (also it might be due to how unlikable Sanjay Dutt is that no matter how many biopics are made I would still feel negative about him).

I agree that Sanju was pretty average (they whitewashed Sanjay Dutt so if they showed the truth you would hate him more) but I'm talking about Ranbir's performance which I think was really good. He rarely disappoints in that area (movies like Bombay Velvet or Besharam being the exception), imho.

And his next two movies definitely seem different from what he has done so far which is good to see.

Bachna Ae Haseeno - he was Casanova not a manchild. He knew what he wanted from life and did it.. He used girls yes. Was he a disgusting fellow ? yes. Was he being manchild ?nope. He was fully aware of what he was doing.

Wake up Sid- he was playing guy out of college trying to decide which career path he wants to choose how is that being a manchild??

Anjana Anjani- he is playing a guy who wants to suicide due to 2009 recessions and the stock market crash that happened well many people actually committed suicide so are you implying that everyone trying to commit suicide are manchild? And depression and suicidal tendencies are nothing but being manchild ? Because nothing in movie implys that he is man child.

Rockstar - ok let me remember he is in college being delhi ka typical ladka, they are having fun, he let's her get married without any drama, small success, meeting her again, having a roaring affair with both party consenting, telling her to come with him which blows up in his face, after clear rejection he completely separates his path with her, getting to know that she is dying, tries to make her happy and better, she dies. Where the hell is my manchild here?

YJHD- now this one bunny was highly ambitious and career orientation guy who knew exactly what he wanted and always pursued it. He didn't wanted a relationship he stated it. He wanted one proposed it.the movie itself has a character who is a manchild (ARK's character )

Besharam- haven't seen it but from the Plot he is playing a robinhood thief. Whoes life is revolving around and orphanage so nah.

ADHM- already said yes ayan was a manchild.

Sanju - sanjay Dutt is manchild even today and movie shows that but there many more shades of the character as well so yeah to each it's own.

"A man who behaves in an immature and irresponsible manner, beyond the years with which he ought to get away with this behavior, and thereby is unattractive, which is to unfit to be father and husband"

-mark devas.

This is definition of being manchild. Being Casanova, suicidal, thief, career oriented, heart broken or committing any small or big mistakes doesn't make the character a manchild.

If telling a genuinely talented person to grow up and focus on his craft instead of wasting it on cheap gimmicks and histrionics is trolling, then I am guilty of trolling. If reminding people that extroversion is not an excuse for encroaching personal space and civility, and one must be more mindful of their actions is trolling, then I am guilty of trolling. If pointing out that while sex is natural and nothing to be ashamed of, bragging about underage sex can put impressionable young minds at risk is trolling, then I am guilty of trolling.

People here already made up their mind against Sanju since Ranbir Kaka was doing the movie and this being a biopic of Sanju so they ended up criticizing it right off the bat after it came out. Ranbir definitely did a good job with the material he was given. That being said I found it hard to believe that Sanju was a victim of circumstances (I think this is mainly due to Hirani).

I don't think anyone who isn't an emotional fool felt bad for Sanjay Dutt after Sanju lol.
