Can SRK recover at this point? Should he retire?

He used to be Nr.1 for most of the 90's and 2000's but his decline in this decade (that is soon over) has been huge. Most of his movies have underperformed/flopped and his star power has faded away almost completely (look at the terrible openings for his movies these days, no hit for 5 years etc.). His reputation among the general audience is that he makes crappy movies now, people really don't like him much anymore.

Sadly even as a fan I have to admit that this is his own fault for the most part, he keeps picking crappy scripts and blindly trusting directors (even though he is the producer of his movies these days). Not to mention refusing to let go of the romantic hero baggage, it once made him popular but now drags him down.

He should be making Swades/Chak De India esque grounded and content driven movies at this point imho but even at first grounded movies like Fan, Raees,Zero suddenly go OTT in the second half because SRK can't make a smaller movie to save his lifeand everything has to be "epic".

He had weaker phases before (see when Asoka, PDHH etc. flopped) but they were over pretty soon and he was younger back then. He is 53 now.

I think it's a shame (especially since he still puts a lot of effort into his performances in my opinion) but him recovering doesn't look likely. I know some will say the Biopic movie could be it but I have been hearing that for every one of his last movies.

Maybe he should just retire before this gets any more embarrassing..
