I don't know how far it will help but it won't hurt at all! If at the very least five people who r fans of these actors from rural backdrops see it and it changes their opinion (in a country where hero worship is rampant that isn't such a far fetched expectation)
And I have a feeling it will be quite a bit more than five people.
And please stop worrying about that single pad being wasted! I mean seriously??? Smh!!

And I have shared this story before regarding this I think. But I'd repeat it. I come from a family that's the opposite of conservative and we lived in a very urban area so periods and pads related stuff with my dad and my brother was very open. They knew exactly which brand and which version of it to pick up for me when they go to the supermarket. To the point when I had just started having mine and Mom would forget to pick mine up my little brother would run to the isle and pick the exact brand and proper pads pack and give it to her telling it's "akka's thing u forgot' paving way for a good few chuckles in the checkout line
And of course at college or work I didn't flaunt when taking it to the bathroom because it was outsiders rather than them being male or female. But had a guy I worked with saw a pad in my hands they wouldn't have been weirded out as the women in their lives were of my background too.
And that was my norm and which I assumed for the longest time was the norm.

And then for a year I had to work at a rural area of my country and when I went to the small supermarket with a girl I worked with and while I was picking my junk food I remember seeing that girl looking around furtively and then finally picking a pack of pads and she wrapped the pallu of her sari around it and waited and waited till the male customers cleared off the counter and quickly went and handed it over to the salesgirl both of whom averted each other's eyes and she quickly wrapped the already nicely packaged pack in newspapers and put it in to the bag! It was a very strange experience for me.
Touching that pack openly was both a shame and a taboo for these people. And that is what I think this campaign might help change.

nice story...just teach girls and make them aware there is nothing to be ashamed of.

i dont know how men fit into all this.

dont make it a grand issue like rape where men need to be taught lot of things..however this clearly looks like a women issue and awareness should be targeted to them and major focus should be there instead os aamir khan posing with a pad. looks misplaced and dishonest and fake and for movie.

this is the tragedy

It's an issue of family! Family means a woman shouldn't have to feel ashamed of her period in front of her father brother of husband. And these important men in a woman's life shouldn't feel like it's a taboo to even look at the pack of pads!
Celebrity males touching it openly means a regular boy from a low income area will be willing to pick that pack for his sister tomorrow and treat it just like a pack of biscuits he has to bring Home to her. Because honestly it's just that simple and natural.

Lemme ask a question have u ever picked pads for a woman in your life? Have u ever noticed a stain in the clothes of a woman in your life while in public (these accidents do happen) and had her back till she went to the bathroom to clear it up? I have been lucky to have men who cared enough to do that for me and who were educated and open minded enough to be like that. Many women don't have that backing and this challenge will change many many people's minds and make them realize that if u r hungry and will require food, if u have a period u need a pad and there is no difference or shame attached to either call of nature :)

I totally relate to what you wrote. Though I consider my family conservative to a certain extent, periods where never taboo. My father and my brothers have always picked up pads and painkillers for us ...
Both my father and my brothers have seen me writhing in pain when I am on my periods.
That's how it should be. Women should be able to talk about it without feeling embarassed.

I just wonder that the slum people they wish to adress through this will actually be instagram users ?...i dislike the idea that everything is coming in so open which it needs not to be. Everyone who is educated knows this that girls go through a physical phenomenon and nobody really treats a girl bad for that, atleaat in urban areas. And if its about adressing rural areas...then i feel people in those areas are not happily using apps like instagrams...neither they have anroid phones nor internet connections as india isnt a free wifi country till date.

I am sure holding a sanitary napkin and taking a selfie with other hand is not going to help anyone to those who knows nothing about it. If you seriously need to bring awareness rather then some promotion then create a goddamn community or awareness programs.
