First of all,Khilji is an integral character in Ratan and Padmavati's life.He attacked Chittor and the Rajputs bravely defended it.Ratan and Padmavati gave up their lives instead of surrendering. And that's a historical fact.It cannot be changed.
Secondly why is Padmavati being viewed as a love story? It's the story of a courageous woman who fought for her honour.Ratan Singh was her husband and love of her life.Khilji was the despotic Sultan who was obsessed with her. Both the love story and Khilji's story are integral parts of the main plot. The movie cannot be based on a single plot alone.Neither can they show 2 hours full of Khilji nor 2 hours of Ratan-Padma's love story. It has to be a blend of everything.
Third, regarding Ranveer's choice to play Khilji,I am proud that he chose this dark and multifaceted character. This gave him a chance to explore and experiment himself as an actor and also the audience will get to see him in a completely different avatar.I am damn sure that Ranveer will excel as Khilji.Actors cannot play the same type of characters forever. They need to venture out of their comfort zone and take certain risks.Ranveer had the guts to do that. And he also has the talent to do complete justice to the character.
Fourth,Shahid's character is important too.For Padmavati was incomplete without Ratan.Shahid and Deepika's pairing is something new and I am looking forward to see their chemistry.
Therefore it's baseless to discuss who is more important between Khilji and Ratan.Historically both of them had their own significance. As far as the movie is concerned then it's not even released yet.How can anyone predict beforehand that Ratan will have more screenspace or Khilji will have less screenspace?😆Even the trailer is not released. Both the characters are important in their own way.
