Varun shares an uncomfortable equation with Alia which was clearly evident post-Humpty. His subtle jibes at her on KWK was cringe worthy. He has mentioned a lot of times how insecure he is of Alia's success. Didn't he say he did Badri with her because she wins awards?
Either he's making fun of her or he's genuinely insecure. Honestly, it doesn't seem like he is joking plus he's too chichora for jokes esp after his- bra and panty comment. He needs to think before he opens his mouth.
On KWK he was acting all macho, alpha male making sarcastic comments on her and Kangana ke saamne ekdum phuski bomb, meh he's such a child.

2 different things

this has become so common. Attack the person in the most brutal manner and then say..i was just joking.

Even if this was indeed in a fun moment; it was in very bad taste

and Varun has a history of doing that.Didn't something similar happen with Parineeti too?
