"A majority of the audience wants to see younger people. "

Says 1/3 of the Uncle Khans. It's due to the obvious sexism and preferential treatment the heroes get. It's the industry that sends actresses packing once they reach mid-30s, it's not like they're being flooded with offers, and when they do get offers it's usually shitty, B-grade films. Either address the whole issue or STFU.

Well, SRK did Dilwale with Kajol, and he played Ash's ex-husband in ADHM.
Its the audience's fault if they want to see younger actresses even if the young ones cannot act, like Shraddha, Jackie, etc.
Madhuri's comeback films didnt work at the BO...same with Preity. So audience rejected them.

Sridevi's comeback film worked because she did a deglamorized role of a housewife/mother.

Typical heroine roles with glamor, dance numbers, flowerpot roles wont suit the mature actresses, wont be fair to them either as they are mostly good actresses and their talent shd be justified with good meaty roles.

On this very forum, Ash has been called auntie many times, although she looks more gorgeous than many young heroines.
This is what SRK wanted to say that the business/ commercial side of moviemaking doesnt allow producer/directors to sign the 90s actresses as the audience wants to see Alia. Shraddha, Jackie, ...

I bet if someone brought a good script for a mature love story, SRK would be the first to do it, with 90s actresses as female lead.
If only the film writers had a mature mindset and didnt only cater to the masses.

I hope SRK does a movie soon, with Ash or Juhi...Preity has botched up her face and Rani is in semi retirement with her little baby...but would LOVE to see SRK Kajol pair up again! ⭐️

Though shes not from the 90s, but would LOVE to see SRK Vidya pairing too!

There could be a movie where Varun Dhawan falls in love with Aishwarya Rai - an age-difference love story, but who'd invest in it? I don't think the mass audience will accept such a story.

SRK is right in what he said. He blurted out the truth. Aishwarya Rai looks as beautiful as ever and she'd be a perfect match opposite the Khans (well yeah, not Salman), Akshay, and HR. But the remaining ones from the 90s - the projection of the audience is such that it won't work unless the Khans play their age on screen.

Aamir could have gotten Juhi to play his wife's role in Dangal. They got Shakshi instead and that was brilliant. She's a talented actor.

You see, Bollywood is a business. It's not a forum for women empowerment or gender equality. Equity maybe, but not a place for social justice as long as what they do is ethical and legal. Ethics is subjective; law is objective.

Simply put, why would Madhuri want to act as a lead even today, when there is no market in India for female leads? Tabu is doing brilliantly on her own and by evolving as she aged. She's younger than Salman but she played Salman's elder sister in Jai Ho. Would Madhuri be willing to play Aamir's elder sister in some flick where Aamir is in his late 30s or early 40s? I doubt it.

Hehe u can quote me directly instead of taking digs...in an interview salman said the same thing what ur king said more or less like "majority of audience wants to see younger actress..people define what they want to watch and filmmakers follow the suit" but I didn't see u appreciating salman then but when srk said it is bitter truth and he is right and honest?😆so my rasleela and character deela slang is apt here !!

Regarding Juhi...if iam not wrong he said in big boss when she came for some movie promotions ... ..salman was pulling her leg and both were having fun ...he said it in a jest if u watch that video .

.edit :but then again as u pointed out both r same ..this is what srk uncle is saying older heroines like juhi are not accepted by public ..audience want to see younger ones..and the same salman said to juhi in a lighter mode

Don't know why u r not able to see the similarity of their statements...Kher !!

Some of the reactions are too amusing! People are cribbing about Shahrukh not getting called out on ridiculous statements when the thread is about the statement he made! Not to mention it's written by someone who took his interview just last year for Huffington Post and got a whole lot of praise for that interview yet he's calling him out on what he said. No offense but some of us who are fans of Shahrukh have called him out on "jokes" he has made that were way out of line. It's a trend here to paint the whole fandom with the same brush! It somehow comes down to Shahrukh vs SK again which is beyond preposterous since each one of them is responsible for the crap they utter!
