I havent read the whole thread yet, but I wanted To clarify one thing about people discussing holi in ADHM. I'm a muslim from Pakistan and I can definitely verify this Holi thing. Weddings these days specifically of upper middle class and elite class have several themed days or dholkis leading up to to the wedding day. Like "gharara theme" "80s theme" and u have seen more than just a couple of times a "holi" day as well. Two people I personally know had this "holi" day and I have seen others doing same as well.

I feel that the "holi" sequence in the movie was also one of Alizeh's "Bollywood dreams" - also the whole haldi thing is Indian and not Pakistani tradition right? Probably they cut out the part when she says this as it had Fawad there.
And any way, back to the main topic. Karan has always had interfaith relations in his movies.

Naina Catherine Kapoor + Jennifer from Kal Ho Naa Ho anyone?
MNIK had Hindu-Muslim couple.
The islamic prayer sequence in his first film KKHH via Himani Shivpuri's character.
Dai-jaan element of K3G.

We do the haldi thing as well, it's called Mayun and it's usually done as two separates events for the girl and the boy. But the one they showed was a lot more Indian than Pakistani. Pakistani Mayun doesn't have the girl/guy getting covered in haldi like that, it's usually very little like on the hand or face, not like they show with the girl having her trouser up for people to put on her legs. 😆

Oh and yeah nowadays there is a trend of having themed dholkis/pre-wedding events as stated above, I remember seeing a pakistani videographer covering an event where they played with colours at night.

Edit: The term is sitting mayun, so basically the once the girl has that event it was the custom that the girl wouldn't do anymore work around the house or go out and stuff and no more contact with the guy. Obviously with changing times a lot of that has changed and girls don't necessarily sit that mayun despite having the event. 😆 They are meant to wear the yellow suit until the next event lol. 😆

😆
It took 16 pages to get to the point.
KJo wants to target a wider audience. Footfalls in India are falling, so the makers need to look at targeting other countries. That would explain why the characters were Pakistani Muslims rather than Indian Muslims (originally).

My next question was that they have shown people playing Holi in Muslim marriage. I attend Muslim marriages regularly, so I know that its wrong portrayal. That's why I was trying to establish logic behind beliefs and things shown on movie.

Apologies if you are hurt.

yes we dont play holi in marriage 😆
on haldi ceremony, we do play with haldi not as ritual but for fun or to settle scores with cousins 😆
