We don't know what happened to Raj and Simran in reel life. We can only presume that they lived happily ever after. But 20 years later, when their real life avatars, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, appeared on Comedy Nights with Kapil to raise a toast to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge's historic 1000-week run at Maratha Mandir, the mood was bubbly, even without the bubbly.

Kajol arrived with a fractured foot and couldn't move around much. But the memories flew and her smiles got brighter as she recalled all the fun times between shots.

Her dilwala revealed that his first impression of her was not a positive one. Kajol would talk incessantly and pull funny faces even when they were enacting intense and romantic scenes which made it difficult for her co-stars to perform. But after a while he got used to his chatty dulhania and learnt to appreciate her spontaneity as an actress. And they became good friends. "The reason behind our chemistry is our friendship,"Shah Rukh asserted.

Kajol went on to recall her first impression of Ajay Devgn who went on to become her real life dilwala. She kept waiting for him to say something and to her surprise he did not utter a single word. Even today, when she asks him how she is looking, all she gets is expressions and she has to read between the lines.

There were other interesting revelations - like DDLJ kicked off in Switzerland as Auzad but eventually became Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, a title suggested and credited to Kirron Kher. And that Salman Khan believed that the film would do better than his hit Maine Pyaar Kiya. He was the only one who thought so.

Shoot over, Kajol got up and had hobbled a short distance before she realised that the sandals she had kicked off, were still under the sofa and she was barefoot under the blue cast.She quickly turned and reached out to Shah Rukh who chivalrously retrieved the sandals and slipped them on her feet before helping her to her car and waving her off.
