'Aarakshan' anti-Dalit: RPI chief

Republican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athavale today said his party will not let theatres in Maharashtra screen Prakash Jha's upcoming release Aarakshan if the movie does not change its 'anti-Dalit' stance.

"The film seems to be trying to put a divide between Dalits and the others," Athavale said.

The RPI chief's threat comes a day after the National Commission of Scheduled Castes (NCSC) also termed the film 'anti-Dalit'.

He claims the film seems to be trying to put a divide between Dalits and others

NCSC had earlier asked Prakash Jha to screen the film for a panel before its release on 12th August.

According to Athavale, the panel's chairman N.L. Punia wanted to ensure that the film does not misrepresent the constitutional stand and laws on reservation.

"But the screening did not take place. We will wait for the film to release and then protest against it if it promotes an anti-Dalit stand," Athavale said.

Aarakshan, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, is about reservations in the Indian education system. Khan plays a Dalit teacher.

The censor board has cleared the film with a U/A certificate.

if this movie showed Dalits in Good light and showed that they shld get reservation then all of other will get upset and if vise versa happened then Dalits will get upset ...and if Jha didnt show any party's point of view out of these two then no point of making this movie on the name of Aarakhshan

dont bring democracy in it dear ...it is a democratic country where if a movie can be released freely , protest against it can also be done

and LAW is not banning its release but a party is saying they will protest against it if its anti-dalit which is very much democratic

LOL I noticed lot of peaceful protests in the world, but not in India when a political party get involved.
Less said the better about people gaining 5 minute fame through films and bigger problems getting disappeared.

It's just a freaking film and director has to have the ability to present his vision. Then others can agree and disagree, thats what civilized people do rather than banning films because they are not ready to expose to another vision. They do this, because they do not need to ready for respect other's visions. Having no respect for others visions, party, cast, religion and having no patiency to listen others visions rather than theirs, are the prime reason for all idiotic riots, killings this country faced so far.

This is what happens when someone tries to show the reality. Never understood this concept of 'reservation' where caste and creed is given preference over talent and hard work !

So right Ishan. Reservations are unfair for the meritorious. They mar their chances and ruin their careers. Why cant the under privileged be helped financially rather than doubting their capability, by means of giving percentage discounts?
