It's the time to Walt-z?

Walt Disney Pictures has approached Shah Rukh Khan with the idea of collaborating with his company, Red Chillies Entertainment. Reportedly they want to invest a whopping $30 million in the deal

We have news from reliable sources that Shah Rukh Khan has been approached by entertainment bigwig Walt Disney Pictures. The world famous company is keen to invest in SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment. Buzz is that they have offered to invest a whopping $30 million into the deal.

Shah Rukh Khan
Representatives of Walt Disney Pictures flew down from Los Angles to London, where SRK was staying on his last trip to the UK. A source says, "Officials from Walt Disney Pictures flew down to meet Shah Rukh while he holidaying in London with his family. Walt Disney has plans of investing $30 million in the first phase of their partnership tenure. Given SRK's popularity abroad, other international companies like Sony Pictures and Rupert Murdoch's company had also shown interest in investing in Red Chillies Entertainment. Although SRK hasn't confirmed the deal yet, it might be interesting if he decides to do so."

When contacted Bobby Chawla, Shah Rukh's manager confirmed the news without divulging too many details. He said, "I don't want to comment on this subject. I only know that Walt Disney officials had met Shah Rukh, but I am not too sure what happened after that." Meanwhile Arjun Mitra, head of Red Chillies Studio, said, "All the information you're seeking is highly confidential and I can't talk about it."

However, our source reveals, "This is the second time that Walt Disney Pictures have tried to get in touch with SRK. The first time SRK couldn't meet them as he was too tied up with work. His manager, Bobby met the officials. But this time in London he was relatively free and did meet them finally."

Shah Rukh Khan being sought to promote Basmati rice

05th July 2007 09.01 IST
Agencies

After promoting cars, soft drinks, biscuits, chyawanprash, computers etc. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is being sought to promote Basmati rice.

SRK is being sought by rice exporters to promote Basmati rice, but there is a hurdle as the government has raised objections over the global Basmati promotion campaign.

Upset over objections raised by the government on their Rs 21-crore proposal to launch the campaign featuring SRK, rice exporters will present their case before 'higher-ups' in the Commerce Ministry.

"I will soon seek an appointment with higher officials in the Commerce Ministry and explain how this campaign, to be launched in Europe and Middle East, is important for the country's rice growers and the industry," All India Rice Exporters' Association (AIREA) Chairman Vijay Setia said.

The AIREA along with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) had finalised the campaign to be executed by Grey Worldwide and Crayon Advertising. It was to be financed by the Basmati Development Fund (BDF) which is created by contributions from exporters.

One of the objections raised by the government on a complaint from a Punjab-based association relates to the fact that the entire money lying with BDF would be spent on this high profile campaign.

"What is the use of keeping this money in a Fixed Deposit when we can get a definite value addition from advertising," Setia asked.

He said since the exporters are enjoying good times in the world market, they can again bring money to BDF many times over 'in a matter of days'.

Shahrukh set up a new well equipped studio for Om Shanti Om

Filed under: Shahrukh Khan — Shafiq Ahmed at 10:01 pm on Thursday, July 5, 2007

Shahrukh Khan has been wanting to set up a whole new state of the art film studio for quite some time, however for now SRK has settled for shifting his 'Red Chillies' VFX studio to a bigger place as part of his expansion plans. The actor has just acquired a new bigger office located at Lokhandwala, Andheri where employees of the company will be shifting soon. The place is being renovated and will soon be ready. Meanwhile Shahrukh also seems to be expanding the number of cars that he has, he has recently purchased an Audi A6 state of the art car which is actually a gift for his two kids.

The new studio for the 'Red Chillies' staff will be equipped with state of the art equipment and the company also has plans to hire more personnel in view of the expansion plans. Shahrukh plans to have a first rate VFX studio and wants to be on par with international special effects studios. Currently 'Red Chillies' VFX studio is working on special effects for commercials and Farah Khan's film Om Shanti Om which is said to have some really good special effects. The company has previously worked on special effects for some of SRK's other films like Main Hoon Na, Paheli and Don, however they will soon be working on special effects for other bollywood films, commercials and even Hollywood films. According to insiders SRK has also bought some other land with the intention to expand his business ventures.

A source claims "We are getting closer to Shahrukh's vision of having a first class graphic designing studio. The new studio is a huge space and can support at least 300 professionals." Well other than a new studio, Shahrukh seems to be on a buying spree as he recently bought his two young kids an extremely expensive gift. SRK has splurged on a state of the art new Audi A6 car as a surprise gift for kids Aryan and Suhana. Apparently the car is equipped with several safety measures like anti lock brake system, electronic brake pressure distribution, hydraulic brake assist, head protection airbags for front and rear occupants. The car is not for Shahrukh himself who already has five other foreign made cars but for his kids. Well SRK's kids are surely lucky to have such a doting dad, after all how many young kids can boast of having their own personal car?

Another one of SRK's generous acts included taking good friend and actress Juhi Chawala's kids along with his own kids to Euro Disney in Paris. Juhi and Shahrukh's families and kids are quite close to each other. Shahrukh was recently holidaying in London with his family; on the professional front the actor will have two releases this year, Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om and Yash Raj Films Chak De India.

SRK to promote Jai Jagannath

By: Upala KBR

July 7, 2007, Mid-day.com
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
The small project has a noble cause. Eighty per cent of the film's proceeds will go to charity

DIVINE INTERVENTION: Jai Jagannath
Shah Rukh Khan may be a big star, but the actor remains down-to-earth with close associates.

So when Mani Ratnam's line producer Chintu Mahapatra asked him to release the music of his production Jai Jagannath, he was pleasantly surprised when the actor immediately said yes.

Says Chintu, "I've known Shah Rukh for many years since I was an assistant director on Dil Se.

He is a wonderful human being, so I thought of asking him to release the music of Jai Jagannath as I need media support. I sent him an SMS and was surprised when he responded and called me to his home the next day."

Chintu then met him and told him about the script and the special cause (80 per cent of the film's proceeds will be donated to charity) and SRK was more than willing to oblige.

Says Chintu, "He told me, 'When do you want me to come? I will be in London till July 11, but I can be there after that.' So we finalised the date July 12 and that was it. It's a great gesture from a star of his stature to lend support."

Jai Jagannath, directed by his brother Sabyasachi Mahapatra, has been made in 15 languages and the cast and crew has worked for free.

Informs Chintu, "Eighty per cent of the proceeds will go towards charity: 50 per cent to the Lord Jagannath Temple Administration Trust, 15 per cent to the Chaitanya Trust in Balangir (for rural education and health, run by his parents), 15 per cent towards one more charitable organisation and 20 per cent towards the working costs of the film."

The Chaitanya Trust operates from Lehedi (Orissa). Says Chintu, "We were born and brought up in Lehedi village, which is the poorest district in India.

The trust, run by my parents and elder brother, provides help to the poor."
Chintu adds that the film addresses the caste system and women's liberation through mythology.

Will Shah Rukh score for Indian hockey?

Former hockey legends believe that SRK might revive the national sport with his new film.

Will Shah Rukh Khan revive people's interest in hockey with his new film Chak De India in which he plays a women's team coach? Former hockey greats believe the Bollywood Badshah might just score for the national sport in this regard. Hockey, we all know, lags far behind cricket, football and even tennis in the Indian popularity stakes. Our sportsmen are making their mark internationally in other disciplines, but the national sport is languishing. So there is all round appreciation that Bollywood has decided to do something about it. SRK and Chak De India might just be the shot in the arm that hockey so desperately needs, feel sports people who also follow films. It might encourage youth to take up hockey again.

Former Indian hockey captain Dhanraj Pillai says positively, "This is the very first film based on hockey and it is sure to pep up the youth. Some practice sessions in Chak De India have been shot at the Bombay Hockey Association (BHA) ground and I too trained the girls for a day," he says. But Dhanraj is unhappy that he isn't actually a part of the film. "If I had trained Shah Rukh, I would have shown him some of my signature shots," the legendary star laments.

Talking of the status of Indian hockey currently , veteran player Viren Rasquinha says, "Shah Rukh Khan's film will definitely make this fascinating sport popular again. But we need to pratice regularly. Otherwise the Indian hockey team will not be able to get back the glory of the golden era gone by. Our performance needs to stand out. Ours is a one-sport nation, we need to encourage youngsters to pursue other sports. Parents push their children academically but sports always tends to take a backseat." In Chak De India , the Bollywood hero reportedly plays the role of former goalkeeper M R Negi whose reputation was tarnished when India lost the 1982 Asian Games final in New Delhi to Pakistan and he was accused of throwing the match. The story goes that Negi was under pressure to perform because Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and President Zail Singh were watching the match. Zafar Iqbal, the Indian hockey captain of that eventful match, recalls, "The entire team had to be blamed and it wasn't only Negi's fault. After that defeat, we were so ashamed that we ventured out only at nights to avoid public glare. But Chak De India might just brighten up that dark spot in Negi's life and I'm looking forward to the film." Former India women's hockey team captain and Padma Shri Selma D'Silva has another take on the sport she was so proud to lead the country in. "I hope the film really brings in an interest and encouragement to the sport. Indian hockey lacks professionalism. Playing cricket is a career. An Indian cricketer draws a salary. But a hockey player has to take up another job to earn a living ," says Selma who recently accepted voluntary retirement from Western Railways. "Films are inspired from real life. So unless hockey becomes a good career option, nothing much can happen."

Sequel To 'DDLJ'?

The longest running film in the history of Indian cinema, 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' is all set for a sequel. OK before you jump with joy, it's just a virtual version of the film that is being contemplated by The Moviemakers society on Orkut.

There is an open forum on the society where movie buffs from all over the world are adding in their own version of how the movie would continue once Raj (Shahrukh Khan) pulls Simran (Kajol) into the train.

While some say that Kajol is expelled out of the train because she is ticketless, others spice it up by making the train undergo an accident and Raj loosing his memory.

So pitch into the group to create your own 'DDLJ' part 2…you never know, your story might just be a hit. Wassay, Aditya Chopra?

Most filmy interpretations

Shahrukh is carried away with the river with his head striking on a rock loses his memory.

He is saved by a gaon ki gori, (Rani Mukherjee) - an essential element in every SRK-Kajol film.

Rani and Kajol are childhood friends and she invites Kajol for the wedding.

Shah Rukh Khan to meet Sanjay Leela Bhansali to ensure their mega-budget films don't clash at the box office in November

Bolo kya karein? Sanjay Leela Bhansali

For weeks there's been speculation about the release dates of two big films during the oh-so-profitable Diwali weekend. Now, it's confirmed that both Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariyan are slated for release on November 9, 2007.

Needless to say, the fate of both films hangs in the balance, as there's a tremendous amount of money riding on them. However, sources reveal that Khan and Bhansali are currently in talks to sort out a clash at the box office.

"It wouldn't work in our favour if Saawariyan releases at the same time as Om Shanti Om. Shah Rukh's film has some big names attached to it, while Saawariyan stars two newcomers," says a source from Bhansali's office.

Dekhte hain: Shah Rukh Khan

Clash clouds

When asked if OSO has been postponed to accommodate Bhansali's film, Shah Rukh Khan says, "No, we're slated for a November 9 release.

Sanjay hasn't asked me to postpone my film's release, but I will talk to him once I return from London and try to sort this out. I don't want any film to suffer."

Meanwhile, Bhansali says, "Sony, which is distributing Saawariyan, had announced the film's release date at a press conference in Mumbai a year ago. As for SRK and OSO, we work in the same industry and will naturally want to avoid a clash."

Bhansali adds that he's spoken to Shah Rukh over the phone and says he'll return from London in a few days to see what can be done.

"It was wonderful and positive to speak to Shah Rukh. He said he'd try his level best to avoid a clash at the box office.

I was surprised that he was open to discussion on this issue, but then again, we work in the same industry and have to survive together," he says.
