Part - 2
8 years later
It was a normal morning and the telephone rang in a small house in Calcutta. A handsome man in his late 30s picked the phone. And to his surprise it was his brother. But the cold tone from the other side made his smile to fade. He knew after whatever he did in the past nobody is going to talk to him properly and he deserved that hatred too.
He replied in a much calmer tone, "bolo Som kya baat hai" And Som said ignoring his sweet voice, "Dada mujhe baas ye batana tha ki Ayush ka Darjeeling ka kisi school mein debate competition hai aur woh chahata hai ki aap usse prepare karo aur leke jao wahan toh mein baas ye puch raha tha ke kya aap free ho?? Agar haan toh mein Batuk se kehekar bhej dunga Ayush ko apke paas??"
Yes so the call was for Ayush, the only person from whom he had got love, all those years. After Bondita left, Anirudh settled in Calcutta but he couldn't stop himself from visiting home in weekends, though knowing how much he is hated by all the family members.
After all home will always be home no matter what.
And that was the time, he found a friend. Anirudh used to spend all his time in study and at that time little Ayush would peep into the room to see the new member and thus started their bond. And in no time they became fond of each other.
He would always call Anirudh asking him to bring numerous things for him from Calcutta and thus increased Anirudh's visit to home. But his conversation with others never increased, it was always limited. Everyone interacted with him only when required.
Anirudh then realised Som was still in the line waiting for his answer. And without a second thought he said yes. After all he is never busy for his family and it is his favourite person's demand. So how could he say no??
The next day was a happy day for Anirudh due to the arrival of his champ. Anirudh always loved spending time with Ayu as it helped in forgetting his pain at least for some moments may be. Anirudh ordered the cook to make all favourites of Ayu and they played together. Anirudh then helped him in preparing for his debate.
It was night time, Ayush had done with his debate and he insisted Anirudh to play with him. Ayush was running in the whole house with Anirudh behind him. It felt like the home was hearing laughter after ages. Anirudh then picked him up and after many failed attempts he finally retired to bed.
Anirudh was sitting beside him with a book in his hand but he couldn't concentrate on it. His thoughts were again and again traveling to Bondita. Playing with Ayush brought back memories of her childhood, how she used to run in the whole house, her laughs, her questions. Then the memory of that night and her letter came in his mind. And he wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes.
It's not that he never miss her. To be true her thoughts and their memory has kept him alive. Not a day has passed for Anirudh Roy Choudhury when he hadn't remembered his wife, his Bondita. No she is not his Bondita now or she was never his.
Anirudh then walked towards the window and looked at the moon. He thought Bondita must be happily married now and would be busy in her life. Still he couldn't stop but think, if his thoughts ever cross her mind or she is too engrossed in her life to remember him.
He smiled sadly and looked at the moon and said to himself, "28 saal ki hogayii hogi na tum Bondita. Tumhare yaad mein itne saal kab bitgaya pata hi nehi chala..janta hun bahut khus hogi tum apni nayi duniya mein, apni sasural mein.. sab ka dil toh ese v jeet liya hoga tumne. Aur toh bachhe bhi hogaye honge na tumhare.. Ek ya do.. Tum par gaye honge ya tumhare pat.. " but he couldn't continue the sentence. How could he take Bondita's name with someone else?? And imagining her happy with her husband and children pained him.
Yes he was strong, strong enough to let her go but he doesn't have the courage left to see her with someone else. How can he?? He can never be able to bear it. And thus he prayed to her dugga maa to never make him meet her in his life.
But little did he knew that their fate was already written, their destiny was in the hands of the divine and not his.
It was the same day, elsewhere inside a school in Darjeeling, a lady in her late 20s was inside the classroom teaching the students. They were happily listening to her and were asking their doubts when a little girl came inside shouting maa, shifting everyone's attention towards her.
And thus the lady was angry and said, "kitni baar mana kiya hai tumhe Aarya, school mein maa nehi, mein miss hun tumhari aur Without permission class mein entry nehi hai samjhi..mein class k baad baat karungi tumse ab jao." The girl then held her ears and ssid cutely, "sorry maa oops sorry Bondita Miss" this cute antics of her melted Bondita's heart as she remembered someone and then she signalled Aarya to go and focused back in her teaching.
The school was over and the mother and daughter were heading back to home hand in hand with Aarya happily telling Bondita how her teacher selected her for the debate competition and she asked her maa to write the best debate so that she can win. And Bondita happily obliged.
It was night time and Bondita was making Aarya to revise the debate. And she was asking doubts in almost every sentence. Bondita couldn't help and said, "pata hai mein bhi ese hi prashn puchti thi jab mein chhoti thi, bilkul tumhari tarah" and then Aarya asked, "sach mein kya?? Aur koun deta tha jawab apke prashn ka??" "Tumhare baba aur koun", said Bondita feeling nostalgic.
Aarya then said, "baba kitne achhe hain aap humesha unke bare mein baat karte hain, mein v milna chahati hun unse" and Bondita's face fell with this but Aarya continued, "lekin pata hai mujhe nehi mil sakte hain hum, ek badi majhboori hai, ab mein choti hun badi hone par samjhungi" And Bondita smiled at her daughter with teary eyes.
Aarya then hugged her her mother and asked, "aapko ek baat pata hai maa??" when Bondita asked what she said, "aap duniya ki sabse pyari maa ho" and she kissed Bondita's cheek. Bondita then picked her in her arms and said, "aur aap duniya ki sabse pyari beti" and the mother daughter shared a loving moment.
Bondita then made her daughter to sleep and kissing her forehead, moved towards the window. She has a habit of gazing at the moon before going to sleep. It gives her inner peace. She looked at her daughter sleeping cutely and said smiling, "bilkul apne baba pe gaye ho tum" and sighed sadly.
It was only after she left Calcutta Bondita realised she is pregnant. Her happiness knew no bounds then. It gave her a different pleasure. A life inside her. Her and Anirudh's child. It was a feeling too overwhelming to be expressed in words.
When she had left Tulsipur she knew she would never get the opportunity to feel and experience the precious period of motherhood in her life ever. And now she was blessed. She was planning to live with the bitter sweet memories her whole life but now she got one more reason to live, her baby. And she cried with joy.
Being a single mother it was sometimes tough for her, but she never disappointed her daughter, her Aarya, her reason to live. She proved to be the best mother. She taught her every lessons of life. She mentioned to her about her baba and even talked about all the family members. Because she knew Aarya has the right to know about all of them.
But deep down in her heart sometimes, Bondita couldn't stop to think many what ifs and how would her life had been and yes their life too. But she got sad and cursed herself for thinking something which can never happen. Because she knows her patibabu.. no he is someone else patibabu now and he is happy now in his married life, after all Mini didi was his happiness and they both would be living a blissful life with their children too.
And Bondita was guilty too about hiding about Aarya from him because he too has an equal right on her. But the unfolding of this truth would destroy happiness of many lives and thus Bondita prayed to never ever meet him in her life.
And the moon couldn't help but grin at these two helpless lovers and their stupidity. They have sacrificed their own happiness for each other and are still leaving in misery.
It was a new day for them. But the persons busy in their own world didn't had any idea that this day was going to change their lives forever and for good too.
Inside the auditorium of the school many students, teachers and guardians were sited and among them was Anirudh and Ayush.
Bondita was sitting in the front row being the teacher with Aarya beside her.
Many student's turn had completed and then the announcement was done for the next competitor, Ayush Roy Choudhry. Bondita suddenly looked up hearing the name.
The flashback of her taking the name hit her and she looked up at the boy climbing the stage. Something was in his talking and walking style that Bondita felt he is none other than her little Ayu. He very much resemble Som dada too thought Bondita. After all how would she fail to recognise a Roy Choudhry blood and also his name, it can't be a coincidence. And bondita's eyes were moist looking at him, he has grown so much. She wanted to run to the stage and hug him but controlled her emotions and smiled looking at him.
Then after few participants it was Aarya's turn. And the name Aarya Roy Choudhury attracted Anirudh's attention and he looked at the little girl standing in the stage.
Bondita never wanted to get the Roy Choudhury away from her name and even Aarya's too after all, the name was Aarya's right. And thinking it to be a common title Bondita never removed it.
Anirudh looked at the little girl and he loved the way she was confidently saying her topic and her cuteness melted his heart and he smiled fondly at her.
The competition ended and result was announced and the 1st prize went to Aarya with Ayush being in the 3rd position.
Ayush had gone to collect his certificate with Anirudh and there Anirudh noticed Aarya and he couldn't stop himself from going to congratulate her. The place was much crowded and thus Ayush lost Anirudh. He tried to find him and reached the garden area searching him. And there Bondita noticed him and unable to control her curiosity walked towards him. And when asked what is his problem and why he is so scared he replied he is lost. Thus Bondita assured him saying she is a teacher here and would help him.
Then she made him sit and started talking with him asking about his family members, who are there in his family?? and how are they??
Ayush got happy seeing Miss asking about him and his family and started telling about them, her maa, baba, bade chacha, chote chacha, dadaji, bade dadaji. And Bondita smiled remembering everyone.
But then noticing he didn't mentioned anything about his badimaa, asked the same and Ayu said sadly, "maine toh unhe kabhi dekha hi nehi, baas mujhe itna pata hai k kuch galatfaimi k bajah se wo chod k chali gayi hai mere bade chachu ko." And Bondita stood there shocked.
