Phoolan Devi may not be a role model because of the methods she used and for many other reasons.
But should never be forgotten that she refused to take sh*t from men and upper class people.
She always used to say that it is not just upper class men but even men from her own community tried to suppress her.

Her rebellion is a sign and symptom of a disease prevalent there. She may never had a chance to live a normal life but her fight made us aware of how things stand in places where law of the land cannot reach.
She did pay with her life for all the wrong ways she adapted to make a point . She did get punished for her deeds not just by law but fate too.But she did make a difference.
--------------
True the same knife she kept with her she could have used it if she ran away from there.Nothing or no one prevented her from using it.Didn't she want to take revenge against Akheraj? What stopped her?Only herself.

In Dsa's case there was no prince charming. Only her stubborness and her courage helped her get what she want.In the process she became some what arrogant and ruthless but she made difference to her life and in the lives of people around her.Anandi only broadened her periphery of her vision and now she sees the merit in Anandi's line of thinking she adapted it in her life out of her own free will.

What difference it made to kamli and others? She was to marry pushkar, she married pushkar!😡

If mangala was informed, she would have at least put on devima act and got Gopal and Kamli married saying its devimas wish.

If mangala was informed she might have helped them in better ways. If not help, she would have at least convinced them about how that was a real bad idea! At least Gopal would have been living today.

If at all we feel bad about Nimboli's fate , cuss her mother who was the reason behind it. Not some helpless woman who's been helping nimboli enough already.

She doesn't do enough cause of her own vulnerable situation. Like shinya said, escaping was never a problem. Where they are going to escape was the problem.

Allowing nimboli to do or say what she(nimboli) thinks is right, is suicide.

Mangala is like Chagni and she gets treated like a glorified maid. She had many opportunities to escape. Even Akheraj and Harki would have heaved a sigh of relief is she was not there. She had knives with her and she knows how to defend herself from predators. There would not have been a prince charming waiting for her but she could have fought her way. why again and again Mangala escaping is being discussed? It was never shown even once that she was planning to escape, rather it was shown that she was waiting to see akhirak punished and for justice to her husband ... she never even said that she was planning to teach him a lesson. ... Her wish is to see him punished.

Are you comparing an illiterate woman who has never seen world outside her village to Gandhiji who studied Law in England and became a Barrister ? Is there no difference between the two?

That I gave as a classical example. And he fought against an empire, not an individual.

I also gave Phoolan Devi example. Appropriate for Mangala.

And the recent, more famous example is Malala.

Nimboli's life is horrible and we admire the little girl for her spirit but the emotional connect comes from the fact that she is the daughter of couple who fought for people living in conditions like Nimboli is at present living.

Mangala would never help herself and she doesn't have it in her to do anything more for that child either because she doesn't know or she cannot do anything more.

Very true Aparna.

@bold Leads in shows like BV that comment on social issues are supposed to inspire people to be better than they are or to tell them that they can improve their lives or just to tell them that there are other ways of tackling things.

This requires showing leads that are super white and too good to be true. Everyone knows that it is not possible to be Anandi. But in striving to be like Anandi, if it is possible to imbibe 5% of her characteristics, it would already be a great improvement for a normal human being.

I will be eternally grateful to Mangala for having saved Nandini's life as a baby. But that is all I am grateful to her for. She has a very limited and narrow vision of things and is only allowing life to take its own course. That is how she will continue living even though she has seen that it is possible to change the course of history through her Devi avatar.

Nimboli feels attached to Mangala/Kamli since she perceives them to be equally victimised as she is. And being victims of the atrocities of Akheraj and Harki, they are sailing in the same boat. Therefore they become natural allies. Does not mean they think alike. Just means that presently survival in this house takes precedence over their inner abilities.

Their real colours will emerge when they are left to grow in freedom.

Kamli has shown she is still helpless and needs guidance from Pushkar's mom to take any step. But she is well-intentioned towards Nimboli.

Mangala, even if she leaves Akhi's house, she will still not do anything for herself. If she could, she would have already done it.

Nandini/Nimboli, who is presently just 11 years old, tries to find a way out when put in a difficult situation. She will soar when put in a conducive environment. What has been happening to her until now is just a way of life for her. She has not known any other. According to her all beendnies get beaten up and work the whole day long. Some more than others. Nothing to fret about.

The day she realises that Akhi's house is nothing but a cage, she will endeavour to escape, not wait for Akhiraj's "paap ka ghada" to fill to the brim as Mangala is doing. She may take Mangala too along with her or Mangala may give up her life in order to give Nimboli a head-start. That Mangala can do.

We are expecting mangala to run away from that hell with nimboli, give her a good life, education and mould her to be a future IAS officer because we know who nimboli is.

Had it not been known, everyone would be grateful to mangala for whatever little she is doing to her.

If Mangala wants to wait till eternity to see akhiraj punished without her personally getting involved into it, it is her wish.

Why is she expected to run away or be like a national leader or a bandit queen turned MP just because Shiv-anandi's daughter is suffering there?

Forget Nimboli's suffering. What about her own status and exploitation? Humiliation?

She has it in her. Potential to do things. Just she is not exploiting her own potential. In a way she is stronger than Anandi. She is not realising her own strengths.

She has nothing to lose. And Nimboli also has nothing to lose.

Better to die than to live such a life.
