I am also tired of Omi's so-called cuteness and found a different portrayal in a recent movie much better. Why do TV shows and even movies insist on making people with mental challenges "cute" as if in some way that mitigates their condition or makes us sympathise. Most of them in real life want understanding, not people going "how cute" like they are lap dogs.
I am not a medico but I have read that autism or Asperger's syndrome are congenital conditions (i.e. developed at birth or age 0-3) and not triggered by trauma (unlike insanity which could be). From the time Laila mooted it, I am looking forward to some Nakul-Neetu sparks actually. I don't want to see Nakul also thirsting for revenge against Sethis like RB.Omi is still a useful character to have around coz we do need some "goodness" antidote to the likes of RB and Anita (one Abhi not enough!). For Omi, I would like the CVs to cut out the cute quotient and make him pleasant, observant, adamantly straight-forward. That will make him perceive things others don't (like Nakul's ego, Manju's double standards, Anita's manipulation), thwart the bad guys, and harmonise relations.

Bana, Well said. The creatives are really making a mockery of the mentally ill. Either they are shown as dangerous and evil or on the flip side, cute and friendly just like a lap dop (as you've described). None of the challenges, issues, and hardships are addressed or the impact these have on the family are mentioned. Plus the only focus is getting the guy married as if marriage is a solution to the problem! However, I would hope that creatives would think of other ways to have some "goodness" around and give us some comic relief by giving us a friend of Abhi's or another relative.
The fact he is supposed to have type of "shock" and not a mental health condition now bewilders me. As Lata said, he's supposed to overcome this shock and become normal? Give me a break. Beyond ridiculous.
What next? Fairies and elves coming to Abhi and Simi's rescue?
