The dhol were playing loudly, making the guests hearts beat along with the rhythm. Twinkle was sitting along with the rest of her friends, blushing profusely as they teased her about Kunj.
Of course she wasn't blushing for him or because of him. She was merely blushing at the idea of being teased. After all she did have to put up an act in front of everyone to make them believe that everything was fine. But nothing was fine. They knew it, she knew it and he knew it. NOTHING was fine but they all had to turn a blind eye to it because no one wanted to confront it. She knows the marriage is going to break if they do and right now, that's a luxury that no one can afford.
Twinkle broke out of her thoughts as she saw Bubbly push Chinki aside and plop Kunj right beside her. She looked at him out of breath. Not because of the way he looked, (she was NOT going to comment on how handsome he was looking tonight nor how her heart skipped a beat when she saw him because it didn't and he wasn't) but rather because she had to put up an even greater front of enjoying his company.
She gave him a sugary sweet smile flashing her pearly teeth, then rolled her eyes, wishing desperately that he would just walk away. She looked at him angrily as his shoulder jabbed hers.
She looked between them and noticed he was practically about to sit in her lap!
"Oyye Kunj! Tujh se wahan ni beth hota kya?" She yelled at him irritably.
Kunj glared at her.
"Oh Miss Amritsar, agar hota phir beth tha ni kya?" He retorted.
"Teekh hai. Tujhe meri seat chahiye na? Toh phir le." She answered back, getting up and walking away from him.
She had just reached the center of the room when she was stopped by Yuvi.
"Kahan jaa ri ho soniyo?" He flirted making Twinkle even more furious.
"Yeh kya badtameezi hai? Raasta chod." She commanded in a stern voice.
"No baby." Twinkle got tensed at the endearment. "Not until I have the first dance of the night with you. After all I have that right, considering I'm your first boyfriend, first love and -"
"And nothing else." Twinkle looked back as Kunj walked up to them. "Actually, you know what it's really sad." He walked in front of Twinkle so that he was standing between Yuvi and her. "You may be her first boyfriend, but never her husband. And as for her first love, you never were that. If anything, you're an illusion that broke." His sarcastic smile faded away as he spoke his next words very seriously. "I'm going to tell you something and I want you to listen to it very carefully. For all intents and purposes, all this that is happening," Kunj pointed to the festivities around him, "these are all formalities. If we want, we could skip it all and get married right here, right now and no one will say a word. And you know why?"
Yuvi who was not buying into any of Kunj's words, played along. "Why?"
"Because we're already married." Twinkle came to stand beside Kunj, interlocking her hand with his. "Not legally of course," Twinkle looked at Kunj who was staring at her, surprised by what she was doing. "but in every other way. Spiritually, romantically, mentally, emotionally, financially, and... physically." She squeezed his hands as a reflex to keep herself from spilling her tears. "No one has the right to touch me or come anywhere near me in a way that might make others question Kunj's place in my life." Turning towards Yuvi, "He not only has the right to every first thing that happens in my life, but every second, third, fourth, fifth and even the last." A squeeze to her hand made her pause.
Her face had warmed up intensely as the statements that she had impulsively thrown at Yuvi were running through her head again.
"Just in case you didn't understand, let me break it down for you." Kunj spoke. "Twinkle is now my wife." He paused, allowing his words to sink in Yuvi's mind. "Aur uss haq se, tumhe koi haq ni hai."
With those last words, Twinkle pulled Kunj along, both walking away from Yuvi, hand in hand.
