do you think the universe fights for souls to be together?
some things are too strange and strong to be coincidences.
Armaan never used an alarm clock. He never felt the need for he's one of those people with an internal timepiece that wakes him up at the same time every morning, regardless of how tired he was or how late he was up the night before. Which explains why, even though it's Sunday and he was on a vacation with his family, his eyelids crack open at five a.m. sharp.
He picked up his cell phone from the side table and got off the bed as he checked his phone for important notifications. He then wore a t-shirt over the pair of shots he slept in and went upstairs to the private gym for his routine workout. It helped him to stay focused and keep his impulses in control. An hour and a half later, Armaan came back to his room to freshen up and get dressed for the day.
And precisely 2 hours later, Armaan Malik was ready for the day in his black trousers, a plain white t-shirt and a black blazer to complete the ensemble. As he made his way downstairs to the kitchens to grab his smoothie of the day, Armaan had his AirPod inserted in his ear as he listened to one of his favorite gazals.
"Good morning Martha!" he greeted the 45-year-old woman who along with her husband had been taking care of this farmhouse in Australia that the Malik family owns.
Martha handed Armaan a tall glass of berry smoothie and wished him, "Good morning!"
Armaan muttered a thank you before picking up his smoothie and went outside. He sat on the swing and stared at the wide expanse of greenery as he sipped his smoothie. Moments like this were his favorite where he was able to enjoy few minutes of solitude, few minutes of his life that belongs only to him for these peaceful moments were hard to come by when you have a family as meddling as his and not to forget all the office work. After all, being Armaan Malik, the C.E.O. of a multinational conglomerate and is not as easy as it sounds.
After finishing his studies, Armaan joined the family business. It's been 8 years since then and under his guidance, the business has only seen growth. His life was perfect, he had everything that one could ever want and nothing was left to desire.
"Bhaiya!" Armaan was brought out of his thoughts when he heard his sister call for him. He shook his head hearing the excitement in his younger sister's voice.
Younger than him by 12 years, Pranali is the youngest Malik family member and the only female child in the current generation. Armaan noticed that she was holding onto her tablet dearly and following her was Karan, the second youngest among the four siblings.
"Good Morning." Armaan greeted as Pranali came to sit beside him while Karan occupied the swing chair installed opposite to theirs. Karan gave him an acknowledging nod, Pranali, on the other hand, just kept grinning widely just like a Cheshire cat. "What happened to her?" asked Armaan.
In response, Karan chuckled, "Pranali," he gestured her with his eyes making Armaan stare at his younger siblings with narrowed eyes.
"What are you two up to now?" Armaan finished the rest of his smoothie and placed the glass down on the grassy ground.
"Bhaiya, check out this new fortune-telling app I downloaded. It is called Mystical iBall, it can tell you about your future. I have filled in your details and oh my! The results are so damn interesting!" Pranali clapped her hands in glee.
Rolling his eyes, Armaan picked up the empty glass from the ground and stood up to walk back inside only to be stopped by Karan, who said, "You should listen to what this iBall has to say." and adding to Karan's statement, Pranali said, "And imagine if this turned out to be true?"
"Fine!" Armaan sighed, "Tell me about it."
Clearing her throat, Pranali began reading out loud the fortune that the app had predicted for Armaan. Her tone like that of a soothsayer from a Bollywood movie, "The alignment of the stars and planets indicate a happy & prosperous life and a bright future."
"Something that every other fortune teller is going to tell you." said Armaan interrupting Pranali while she spoke.
She glared at him while Karan was just enjoying watching Armaan and Pranali as he leaned back lazily on the swing. Pranali glared at Armaan, "Let me speak, bro!"
Armaan ran a hand through his hair, "Okay fine, continue."
"Hhmm, so the app has predicted that your future is going to be really glorious! Your life has been treating you very well but now things are about to get really interesting. The Mystical iBall can foresee what is store in for you in the future. Interaction with new people and the development of new relationships. The most important being your meeting a girl dressed in pink for she is going to change your life."
"You got all this by feeding a few details in this app?" Armaan snorted at the idea that the app could predict that this girl wearing a pink outfit is going to change his life.
"Do you two really think that will happen? I mean there are numerous people of Sagittarius zodiac sign in this world born on the same day, same date and the same time as me so according to this app every such person is going to meet a girl in a pink dress?! Seriously?" Armaan shook his head laughing at the ridiculous concept of it, "And Karan, you too? You too, think that this is going to be true?"
"I know this sounds ridiculous but what if it actually turned out to be true". Karan had a smile on his face as he said that. He made a dreamy face and hugged Pranali sideways, "Imagine that bhai will meet this girl at the airport tonight or perhaps she will board the same flight as ours?"
Karan's words added the right amount of fuel that Pranali's imagination needed, "OMG yes! It could happen for this is the first time we won't be taking our private jet because of the sudden technical issues!" gasped Pranali.
"Shut up!" Armaan flicked their foreheads before walking back inside the house.
It was the shrill ringtone of her cell phone that woke up Shilpa from her sleep. Groggily, Shilpa shifted on the bed a little so that she could get a hold of her cell phone. She had forgotten to turn off the alarm for she had been so tired last night that the moment her head hit the pillow she went into deep sleep mode.
An Ob-gyn by profession, Shilpa had come to Australia for an important seminar. What had tired her more was the after-party that she attended in those high heels that she had bought for the said party. She got so lost in the looks of it that she forgot that new shoes bite. They bite hard and it was extremely painful.
It was still early in the morning and her flight was scheduled at night so she had time to sleep. She threw her phone aside and went back to sleep but alas! Shilpa was once again woken up when her cell phone went off. She whined a little before answering the call, "Hello." she said.
"Hello, am I speaking to Dr. Shilpa Malhotra?" Shilpa had her eyes closed as she heard the woman on call speak.
"Yes, you are."
"Uh, doctor it's I, Karen from St. Vincent's hospital. Actually, I was hoping that you could help me with a case for some consultation."
Shilpa sighed, sleep wasn't in her stars for the day. She ran a hand over her face and rubbed the sleep off her eyes before replying, "Okay, so by what time do you expect me to be at the hospital?"
"It would be best if you come at 1:30 P.M. I will meet you in the cafeteria on the ground floor." informed Karen.
"I'll be there." Shilpa replied before ending the call.
She dragged herself off the bed and called the room service and ordered for herself two shots of espresso, avocado toast and a bowl of salad. She took the time to stretch and brush her teeth before breakfast arrived. After finishing her breakfast Shilpa went to take a relaxing bath in the nice jacuzzi bathtub that the hotel room offered. An hour later she came out of the washroom dressed in a bathrobe.
Rummaging through her suitcase she picked out light pink colored jumpsuit, simple and classy. And for the shoes, she decided to wear her trusty white sneakers. Blow drying her hair, she tied them in a simple ponytail and got dressed for her visit at the hospital.
Armaan was doing some last-minute packing right now, they were leaving for Mumbai tonight only. Unlike Armaan, Pranali, and Karan, the rest of the family had woken up late and skipped breakfast. Armaan came down in the dining area and was holding onto their flight tickets. He handed everybody their respective tickets and his own was snatched by Karan, "AI4235xxC flight, seat no. 12A."
"Hey Pranali, won't it be just wonderful if Pinky is not only traveling with us on the same flight but also will be sitting beside bhai?"
"Oh my God! That's will be so awesome!" commented Pranali as she hi-fied with Karan while Armaan just shook his head in amusement. After reading that prediction from that app, Karan and Pranali had begun to address that "girl dressed in pink" as Pinky for short.
"Who Pinky?" asked Ruhaan, the second eldest out of the four Malik siblings. Hearing him, his whole family was looking at him with questioning eyes, "What are you guys talking about?" asked Balwinder Malik, Armaan's father.
Armaan just shook his head in negative, "Nothing Dad. These two have gone crazy."
The moment Pranali's eyes narrowed at him, he knew that he had made a mistake. "It ain't nothing bro!" she turned towards their father, "Dad, check this out!" and now she was going to tell the whole family about this absurd prediction. Armaan groaned and Karan laughed.
"AI4235xxC flight, seat no. 12B." read Shilpa as she placed her ticket in her purse. After 3 hours of consultation, Shilpa was back at her hotel room and was packing her stuff. As she packed she ordered herself some Chinese lunch and ate it as she worked on her luggage.
Armaan was right when he had realized that he had made a mistake by calling Pranali crazy. Now Pranali has told everybody about what that Mystical iBall had said about his future. His family was already made it clear that it was time for him to get married and they were considering this Pinky as a potential candidate to be his wife. They were being just as ridiculous as the app.
"You know what will be more fun?" started Ruhaan, "If Pinky got the same suitcase as bhai's, it would be like a cherry on top of a cake!" Not everybody understood what he was trying to say.
"Why so?" Ananya, their mother, frowned in confusion and even Armaan was curious about that one.
"Arre! It will increase the possibility of their suitcases getting exchanged. Think about it; Bhai will take Pinky's suitcase thinking it was his while Pinky will have Bhai's suitcase in her possession for she thought that it was hers! And when they will find about this, it will only become a reason for them to meet again as they have to get their bags exchanged again!" Ruhaan giggled pointing at Armaan who had just zipped close his coral blue colored suitcase.
Shilpa dragged her coral blue colored suitcase out of the hotel as she walked towards her car which was ready to take her to the airport. She had come to Australia just for 5 days so she wasn't carrying too much luggage, just 2 suitcases, and one laptop bag. Finally, she would be back home in Mumbai.
"You guys are crazy!" Armaan said exasperatedly. "Nothing as such is gonna happen!"
"Let's see." Karan and Pranali smiled and said in unison.
So how was the first chapter?? Did you guys like it? So, both Armaan and Shilpa live in Mumbai but till now they have never crossed paths with each other, they haven't met each other yet! But now that their fate has intervened, what do you think is gonna happen next?
