“I am in love with your cupcakes, Sara di!," uttered Priya, happily munching on a blueberry cupcake.
Sara smirked. "It is not made by me, but someone else."
"Accha ji?” Priya mumbled as she bit into another delicious cupcake. “Itni acchi baking karne wala kon aa gaya aur kahan se?”
Sara was laughing at her sister's food obsessed behaviour, when Neeraj came out of the baking station. "Kiska hai ye tumko intezaar main hoon na..." he sang, dramatically spreading his arms in the signature SRK style.
Priya rolled her eyes, a soft smile on her lips. "So you made these cupcakes?! Kya baat hai! You aren’t leaving a chance to impress me today."
"Yes!” Neeraj agreed, bending towards her, a mischievous light in his eyes.
She leaned towards him. "Colour me impressed. But I'm not falling in your trap this time,” Priya returned, her tone suddenly sharp, which shrunk his smile.
~~~
"Trap? What do you mean, jaan?," asked Brinda, her grey orbs widening.
Ram cleared his throat. "Dekho!” He declared, sounding hesitant. “I'm not going to propose Vedika, and that's final.”
"Vedika is a nice girl, Ram!” Adi spoke up, looking as bewildered as his wife Brinda.
Ram smiled. "Yeah, she is. But I can't go through with this.”
Brinda caught his hand, holding it in gentle support. "Hey,” she cajoled, searching Ram’s blue eyes. “You told me that you like her."
"Yes I do. But…” He paused, a strange vulnerability on his features.
"Afraid of being heartbroken?” Brinda prodded, squeezing his hand.
~~~
“No.” Priya responded to Sara’s quizzical expression. Neeraj had just left. "I feel betrayed. Just like Maa did once upon a time.” Tears clogged her throat as she continued, "And betrayed hona, heartbroken hone se zyada dard deta hai.”
On the other side of the bustling city of Mumbai, a man answered his best friend’s question about his fear of heartbreak. "Yes. Dil tootta hai to dard hota hai,” Ram Kapoor whispered, his lips pursed.
"Magar pyaar hai to izhaar bhi karna padega na," Sara and Brinda spoke together to Priya and Ram respectively; two well wishers desperate to see their friend happy in life.
Ram and Priya looked away, a grim expression on their faces. "I don't know where my life will go. But I know my decision to leave is right."
They both stared at the sky, realising that it was going to rain. "Wow!” Priya exclaimed. “Baarish aane wali hai! Aaj toh mujhe bheegna hi hai."
"Oh, no,” Ram cursed. “Baarish aane wali hai. I need my umbrella, dude. Stupid bloody rains.”
She ran towards him, "Neeraj, you haven't gone because of rain?"
"Tujhe dekhe se nazar nahi hatti nazare hum kya dekhein," Neeraj said with husk.
Priya opened her eyes wide and said," Shut up! I know I am your fiance but shadi baaki hai"
"Shaadi hi to baaki hai," he winked.
She snapped him and said, "Go, shadi se pehle milna mana hai na apshagun hota hai"
"I know, tum aur tumhare rituals," said he.
"Accha baba jao bhi," she requested him.
He grinned, "Jaisa tum kaho" and left.
Ram reached at Vedika's house, he was excited what would be her reaction was his only concentration.
While entrance he noticed some loud noises of laughter and realised it was Shashi, his classmate with his family.
Ram was on the door and heard, "So I think we should decide the date of engagement," at which Vedika blushed.
The same time the roses slipped from Ram's hands to the floor which one of the passing servant noticed, "can't you handle these roses if you have brought, sara floor kharab kar diya"
"Sorry!!," Ram lamely uttered.
Listening to this, Ram grabbed the attention of each present there, which was awkward.
Vedika uttered, "Ram tum yahaan," she noticed the roses and understood the whole thing.
"Have you come to propose me?," He nodded his head negatively and said, "just to give them to you"
Shashi intervened in between, "oh! Wahi me socho meri Vedika ko kon propose karne aya hai" and offered lilies to her which pleased her.
"Wow Shashi! These are beautiful," she thanked him and mouthed, "I love you," not got unnoticed by Ram, who was heartbroken at the same moment.
The same time Priya's phone buzzed, "Hey love, how are you Neeraj?", Said the person on other side which vanished all the colors from Priya's face.
Actually while tasting cupcake her phone was exchanged with Neeraj's.
"Who is it?," asked Priya.
The girl on the other side also realised it wasn't Neeraj and cut the call immediately when the same time she felt Neeraj also betrayed her just like her father did to her mother.
She didn't want to live a life anymore.
