The bright Sun was over my head, forcing me to blink my eyes as the last breath of the dying I released a deep sigh of helplessness. Though, I covered my face with a red scarf At the same time, my phone stuffed somewhere in my purse started ringing. I did not care about it previously because I was busy in my own grief, with different thoughts of him.
But it decided to test my patience, buzzing insistently, compelling me to search frantically for it in my purse. I won finally, finding it among my umpteen belongings and before I could even say a formal hello to the person, he said, "Some belongings have been found here, it is compulsory to have a look." I smiled lamely and nodded my head positively as if I had found a ray of hope, but didn't utter a single word and ran towards a rickshaw.
I was so in a hurry, harboring a misconception that my grief and agony will come to an end forever today, when a lady in a khakhi saree, compelled me to shake me out of my thoughts and I just uttered a, "hmmm...", and cast a glance over her.
She pointed in the direction of the person sitting exactly next to me. He was casually chewing gum without a care in the world, while playing a game over his cell phone. With excitement he snapped his head, "Kya Tai! I just lost the game because you and ma'am distracted me!" He pouted like a child who had just lost his five rupees chocolate bar.
He was testing my patience really hard, so I screamed out loud, "What the hell is going on here? You people have called me and said this is something urgent and to visit here is compulsory, so I am here. Now what is going on? Why you have called me to shed tears?"
The man gave me a serious look, while still chewing the gum. I assumed that my words had affected him, but I was wrong. At the same time he started laughing, holding his stomach, "You're too funny. I must appreciate your sense of humor."
I clenched my jaw and was about to yell at him again when he stopped me from reacting. Picking up a bulky baggage from the table, he handed it over to me. "We have found these belongings of a person. Please check, if they belong to your missing husband."
Tears filled in my eyes. I had no idea what I was going to find out in the baggage. My hands were shivering and I looked up, "Where did you find them, officer?"
He placed a hand over the table and started leaned over it, "Pune railway police station."
With trembling hands I reached for the bags as I opened the bags. The officer kept talking, I only heard some of his words. I knew that the person whom the bags belonged to had committed suicide over the railway tracks. and the police had eventually performed his last rites after trying hard to trace his family.
I took the clothes and caressed them: the same blue check shirt and a black pair of denims, he had worn on the day when we had fought that night. It had been my fault and he had left home, cursing me.
Tears started rolling down my eyes, as I picked up his watch in hands. Yash! Our first anniversary gift. Do you like it?, I had said when I had gifted it to him. My lips were shivering and finally I fell to the floor as these words escaped my lips: “Yash! You cannot leave me alone"
