Zaira Wasim was Molested on a Flight; Mumbai Businessman Convicted to Three Years Jail for Sexual Assault

Former Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim had shared a shocking incident of molestation on her social media in 2017, wherein she stated that she was molested by a man on a flight. Zaira, who was in her teens at that time, accused Vikas Sachdev, a 41-year-old Indian businessman of moving his foot up and down her neck and back while she was half-asleep in her seat on the flight.

After three years, the special court for sexual offenses against children has convicted Sachdev to three years of jail. “I am holding you guilty for section 354 (Molestation) of Indian Penal Code and Section 8 (sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO),” Special Judge AD Deo said in his verdict.

Zaira had shared her horrifying experience on her Instagram stories stating that she was molested on a flight from Delhi to Mumbai in December 2017. She had also shared that he tried to film Sachdev, but it was too dark to capture his face. However, the Police arrested him after he was identified with help from the airline the Dangal star was flying in, Air Vistara.

“So, I was on a flight traveling from Delhi to Mumbai today and right behind me one middle-aged man who made my two-hour journey miserable. I tried to record it on my phone to understand it better because the cabin lights were dimmed, I failed to get it...

“The lights were dimmed, so it was even worse. It continued for another five to ten minutes and then I was sure of it. He kept nudging my shoulder and continued to move his foot up and down my back and neck,” she had said in her video post on Instagram.

Zaira had also accused the airlines of being ignorant and not helping her after she raised the issue with them. Whereas, on the other hand, the businessman and his wife insisted that Sachdev was returning from a funeral, and was mentally disturbed and asleep when the incident took place. It was unintentional, his wife had said.
